USPS Tracking

We have a package that was scheduled to be delivered on Monday. We still haven't gotten it, and when I check the package on USPS tracking, it says that it's "In Transit, Arriving Late" with a date of November 16. The only time I can find on the tracking information where the package was actually scanned was when the package arrived at the USPS origin facility on November 12. I keep checking the tracking in the hopes that it has arrived at a nearby facility, but nothing so far. Am I correct to assume that the package has likely gotten lost somewhere? We are contacting the company to see if they have any further information on their end. Thankfully, we don't need the item until Christmas, but we would like to get it!

Did you try expanding the tracking info to see exactly when and where it was scanned? There is a chat feature on the UPSs site, no idea if it works, and they also have a number to call. I would wait and see what the company says when you contact them. If they can't prove it was delivered, they should be replacing it. Good luck!

I did look at the expanded tracking, and the only 2 actual scans it shows are when it was accepted at the USPS Origin Facility and at the USPS Regional Origin Facility, both in California. The postal service tracking seems to be hit-or-miss as far as how detailed the scans are. I know sometimes the tracking shows a scan from when it leaves the Regional Origin Facility, and then other times it just shows up when it is scanned at the local post office. The company said to wait a few more days to see if we get it, and if not, they will either refund our money or send another package.

I sent a two day USPS envelope a week ago Tuesday NH to FL. It arrived this Monday! I'm using Forever Stamps from now on as I'm guessing the envelope would have arrived the same day saving $7! Over the summer, I sent an overnight USPS envelope which did not arrive the next day. That came with a much advertised full refund and I got my $26 back.

We had this happen twice in the past year.
First time was a package getting bounced between my PO and the one nearest it's destination for 2 months, it was only caught when I contacted the USPS in writing with a complaint form online and they called me back, they had to get a human to agree to grab it and pull it out of the loop.
Second time happened when Macys used USPS instead of UPS and we had a mail forward in effect for one of our college students. UPS will bring to the door (Fed Ex too) but USPS will not and so the items kept getting weirdly looped . Since I wasn't the sender there was nothing I could do, I had to go back to Macy's and get a human who had to track the item down and return it then I reordered and I then sent somewhere else since there was no getting around it. BTW, USPS mail forward has been unreasonably difficult, we were using it a while but have abandoned it as a lost cause and just moved everything to online.

That happened to me a few times during the beginning of the Pandemic.
The tracking had no movement for a week or more, eventually I did get everything.

You are right about the hit or miss lately. I was tracking a package that was to arrive yesterday. The package was in my mailbox in the afternoon. But it was never scanned in as delivered. So if I had an issue with it, I wouldn't be able to prove that I actually had gotten it. At least the company is willing to cooperate with you.

I have no idea what the USPS is doing with mail these days. I mailed a first class card, from our house to a neighbor, 3 houses down. And it took 6 days for it to be delivered..I could have walked it there in 2 minutes, but it was a sympathy card and I wanted it to be delivered by mail~

This happened to me early in the pandemic and the package really was lost. It had to be reshipped. It said it had arrived at the Orlando airport, but the Orlando USPS never got it.

OP, if you are concerned, contact the company you made the purchase from and ask them to trace it for you. That is what I had to do when my shipment was lost, and no one would have known if I hadn’t asked.

It may not be lost as in no one knows where it is. It could just be routed incorrectly, put on a wrong truck or plane, etc I've actually had that before and the tracking didn't update for quite a while. It was only after it finally got delivered that I ended up seeing the path it took. That was for UPS though.

It's been 4 days though since the last update, I'd reach out to USPS and see if they have any additional information first. I will say yesterday our mail came pretty late (like 5:30 when it's usually 11am-2 or so). Also we had a package delivered from USPS at 9:30pm at night last week (and it actually did say that was the anticipated delivery time) so they are working out there late.

We had that happen too. DW was locking the door just before going to bed and noticed a package on the porch. I ordered an item from England and the estimated delivery time was 28 days. After 6 weeks I contacted them and they told me just because of "everything" packages were moving slowly. About a week & a half later the package arrived safely.

Tracking isn't always as accurate as it could be UPS, FedEx, any of them. I''m betting the OP's package is not lost, just long-delayed.

This seems to be particularly true with USPS. Numerous times the tracking info has been stagnant for days and days and days, then suddenly the package will be delivered without having had any shipping updates.

So far, knock on wood, no packages have been lost, so at least the USPS is reliable. Unfortunately, the tracking system doesn’t offer much peace of mind.

Now I am annoyed with UPS. I had a package coming, delivery date of today. All day it's said it was on the truck out for delivery. Now I just got an update saying it wouldn't be deliverd until Monday? What happened to Saturday, I know for a fact that they deliver on Saturday (and sometimes Sunday) during this time of year. Grrr...

What's the method of shipping? It may not qualify for Saturday (weekend) delivery.

It was shipped second day air,,so it qualified..but there is no excuse for it not being delivered today. It was on the truck, and the truck went up and down this street at least 5x today! Must be a substitute driver or something!

I've had it before, usually just means they had too much to deliver and couldn't make it. I had one time where it was out for delivery at like 5am...didn't make it and was delivered the next day later on.

As for monday vs saturday delivery that's would be odd from what I saw in my brief search as your package would have qualified. That info I posted in was from August of this year.

As far as seeing the truck I'm guessing that these trucks aren't all the same exact truck. Your package probably wasn't on any of those trucks but rather one that didn't make it to your area in time. That's just a guess.

I know how ya feel though! I hope you get your package soon :)

UPS Next Day Air and UPS 2nd Day Air do not qualify for Saturday delivery unless the shipper paid for it which, regular retail rate, is an additional $15. They have entered this weird phase where they’ve rolled out UPS Ground and UPS 3 Day Select with free Saturday delivery but still want to charge a premium on the their already more expensive services. FedEx does this as well but in their defense, the ground and air networks are two completely different systems.

UPS never delivered on Sunday. That’s just for those UPS SurePost packages which is specifically marketed as final delivery by the USPS which will sometimes happen on Sunday’s.

Regardless, I’ve generally had good service even with the pandemic. AT&T sent me a prepaid USPS label to trade in my iPhone. I didn’t even bother using it and instead printed my own UPS label at my expense because I’m not about to give the USPS anything of value that I actually want to see make it to its destination.

it seems like I get harly any updates, then like a million the last day

I have had this same thing happen a couple of times since March with eBay sales. Both times, the tracking just stops. After a while, the tracking will just resume. I assume the package got stuck somewhere and then the tracking resumes when someone finds it. One package was lost for a couple weeks. It all worked out for me in the end, and I hope you also have good luck!
