USPS Tracking

Update on my original post... The USPS tracking still shows no movement since November 16th, and the company considers the package lost in transit. They offered either a refund or re-shipping the item. The item is currently out of stock, so we requested a refund. The refund is for the full purchase price minus the shipping and handling charges. Is it normal for the shipping and handling not to be refunded? Normally we buy from Amazon and have free shipping, so this is a first for us. I understand about lost packages being frustrating for both the seller and buyer!

It depends on the seller and/or company policy. It's not uncommon though. You could always contact the company directly and talk to them about it, it's possible that because you wanted a straight refund versus still wanting the item they might be less likely to give the S&H back as that does happen at times but it's always worth a shot :)

I bought a shirt several years ago (I really can't buy clothing online really but took a shot based on the reviews) from LTD Commodities and they do not do a free return. I called them up and told them I really wanted the shirt but I measured myself with their chart and bought off of that and it was too big. The kind lady on the phone saw that I had purchased multiple times in the past, never returned anything, I still wanted the item just a smaller size and shipped me a one size down shirt size free of charge and just told me to keep the other one to gift to someone if I wanted to.

Sorry to hear it's considered lost!

I'm near Louisville, KY. There was a picture of our main sorting facility going around and the packages are in piles over there. I have a couple of things lost in that mess. One thing has been MIA since the 20h. Have had a few other things take a couple of weeks that were supposed to take 3-5 days. I think they were in bad shape operational wise before covid, but the increase of packages over top of the normal holiday increase on top of extra precautions or employees being out has resulted in a giant cluster. My local branches are awesome, but those sorting facilities are terrible right now. Had one guy delivering packages last year that didn't want to get out and walk a package up to the house. He put a notice in my mailbox and said he attempted but no one was home but I was right there in the kitchen watching him drive past.

I have ordered on-line, a lot, this month. I get e-mails everyday telling me I am expecting a package that day but they don’t arrive! I knew things were taking longer, what with the pandemic and the holidays but this is worse than I thought!

Oh heck no! I’d be on the phone getting my S&H back. You did not receive anything. That’s ridiculous.

I’ve had this happen four times since March. The packages just disappear into the abyss and then randomly show up out of nowhere, no updated tracking. I had one show up after six weeks and one show up at 9pm after about three weeks. As far as I can tell it’s where they are coming from/going. My DD sends a package from Seattle and it shows up early. I send a package from Vegas to Seattle and it seems to roam around for a week or so. They do show though. I’d prefer to send UPS since you at least have a clue what’s happening but her UPS driver won’t even try to get into her building and just dumps the packages outside the main door. (office will not hold them since March) USPS has access to the building and she’s asked me to ship that way so I’ve got to get Christmas in the mail tomorrow in case it decides to take a tour of the US.

DW had a major problem with an expensive purchase a few months ago. The purchase was from a jeweler she's dealt with for years, and the amount was more than $2,000.

We live in Miami and the jeweler is in California. There was an issue with the jewelry and she had to return it to him for repair. At his suggestion, she used US Postal and of course she insured it. NEVER AGAIN.

When the item didn't arrive as expected, we started tracking the package. A few days later, we were notified that it had been delivered, but the jeweler said it had not. We know him and knew he was telling the truth.

We got some informal help from someone who works at USPS. They told us that the detailed tracking info did show the package delivered -- but NOT at the jeweler's location. It was reported as delivered about 2 blocks down the street, on the opposite side of the street.

We filed an insurance claim and it was immediately denied. Our friend told us that is normal -- all claims are initially denied, and many claimants stop there. They told us to continue to press the issue. This was a lot of money, so we kept at it. We filed an appeal.

The appeal was denied, saying we had not provided proof of payment (which was never requested), so too bad, so sad.

However we wrote a letter and attached copies of both the check paying for the jewelry and the bank statement showing that that specific check, in the amount we were claiming, was actually paid by her bank. That is about as conclusive as proof gets.

We didn't hear a word for about two weeks, and then without any response whatsoever, we received a check for full payment of DW's claim. The whole process took more than 3 MONTHS.

Our friend consistently emphasized that the USPS insurance claims procedures were not designed to process and pay claims. They are designed to avoid paying claims -- even legitimate ones -- so you have to just keep after them.

Needless to say, we will never send anything other than a letter or card by USPS again. UPS or FedEx only from now on!

USPS trackers often give me anxiety. Last year, a friend of mine in Minnesota sent me a belated birthday gift, and while I understand that anything from the US would take a fortnight to arrive in the UK, the tracker would sometimes not update for a day or two, and I also later learned that anything international would have to pass through one of their international processing facilities, and much to my surprise, despite MSP having flights to the UK, it went via ORD, meaning that it must have made the journey by road, and of course, being Minnes(n)o(w)ta, there was a lot of snow at the time. On the bright side, it did arrive within a fortnight, but still, I find the USPS tracker to be the most anxiety-inducing. Even the Royal Mail's tracker from my experience is more informative and up to date,

Still waiting for 2 pkgs that were shipped Nov 20. They told me they would arrive in 5-7 days. Tracking still says they left NJ on Nov 27, but no tracking info since then, and I still haven't gotten them. I could have walked ( well maybe driven, lol) from NJ to MD faster than those 2 pkgs are getting here! I called the company and they told me to 'be patient'. I said "I will be patient for a few more days. If I don't get them I am filing a chargeback with my bank. " She told them they could reship them, but they wouldn't get here by Christmas. I said I don't want them after Christmas..they are gifts. :(
On the other hand, something that was 'out of stock' at Amazon, and not due to be in stock until Dec 15, was shipped last nite, and will be delivered by UPS tomorrow. Why can't every company be like that?

I sent a package USPS priority mail 12/3. It sat in Indianapolis for 5 days- just left the facility this afternoon headed to Arizona. A package sent from Arizona to Indiana took 2 weeks to arrive. Crazy delays.
Had major box store who ships with UPS cancel my order after it showed waiting for shipper to pick up for a week. Got my refund - then a week later the item showed up.

I contacted the company again, and they are refunding the S&H as well. They said the person who originally issued the refund was mistaken. Glad we're getting the full amount back!
Nice!

We had a USPS shipment disappear a couple weeks ago, after receiving an "out for delivery" notice. Amazon ended up having to replace the package. Last week our neighbor approached DH asking if we had seen their Amazon package that USPS was supposed to have delivered. Unfortunately, we hadn't. DH told him that was all too common here & he needed to contact Amazon. We now have another Amazon package in USPS limbo. I wonder how much money Amazon will have to lose, before they stop using them in locations that are constantly not delivering packages on time or at all.

Yeah, we play ping pong with a couple of our neighbors with mail. One is a block away, but the last 2 numbers of their house number are the same as ours. This time of year, one or the other of us gets a mis-delivery about once a week. Should be obvious that both the names, addresses, and locations of the houses are different...but apparently not.

The other one is next door, but only next door on one side. We never get mail for the neighbor west of us, only east.

It's the USPS. It's not supposed to make sense.

After reading this thread and pricing out USPS and UPS I got DD’s go ahead to mail via UPS. USPS was almost twice as much and would take twice as long and no doubt go on a grand tour of the Pacific Northwest. She will just have to be on brown truck stalker alert. 😂

We have what we call our “mail twins” on the opposite side of the main road. So our street, same numbers on beginning and end but with them having 33 in the middle and us 22. It’s happened so often we just run them over to each other with a quick knock and “got your mail again.” If we’re missing something that says delivered we know where it most likely is.

The USPS in our area seems to have given up scanning anything, and it's taking a LONG time for deliveries to arrive. One of my items was just a sheet of 4 wallet-sized photos from Shutterfly, in a flat envelope. UPS handed it off to the USPS at our airport, a mere 20 minutes away from us, on November 30th. It never got scanned again, and I thought it was lost, until it was finally delivered to my house on Monday, December 7th. I have NEVER had a package take an entire week from arriving at the airport PO to being delivered to my house. (And just out of interest, I just went back to my shipping email and clicked on tracking - it still doesn't even say it's been delivered; there are NO scans after November 30th).

I have another item that was "picked up from shipper" on November 26th, but then no movement until December 5th when it was finally "accepted" by the SAME USPS OFFICE. It was supposed to be delivered to me yesterday, but of course it wasn't, and now the tracking just says "Arriving Late" and "In transit within the USPS system."

Due to all of these delays, I sent out my Christmas cards this past Monday, when I normally would have waited until next week...

I took down all of my eBay listings today because of the shipping delays. I sent out some items a week ago First Class and none have even been scanned as reaching the sorting facility yet (all the tracking shows is they left the Post Office I shipped the packages from). I don't want to send anything else out and risk having to refund those items because the delays are so bad.

I just got something delivered a few days ago that I bought on November 19th. An Amazon order has been at my local Post Office since December 1st with no updates, I know it will get delivered eventually and am glad it's not a gift.

No to bring this thread back up but a friend of mine shared this on FB and it felt perfect for this thread

Only sadly in the OP's case it didn't ever arrive :sad1::sad1:

I've got my own USPS stalking...I'm sorry I mean tracking going on.
