USPS Tracking

Yeah, we had a package that said it was delivered and it was not. Went to post office and said, seller said it was delivered and it was not. They said, oh it is listed as arriving here. After he went into the back, came back and said, it’s not here. We told seller, he said if not seen in a day it two more, will give a refund. Thought, well if post office said it’s there, went back to post office almost a week later, to complain again. Oddly, arrived in the mail the next day. Four weeks after ordered, with what seller said 3 to 5 days. Seller is in the state next to ours.

2 of my pkgs are still MIA, both coming from the same company. Tracking still shows departed NJ on 11/27 , being transferred to USPS for delivery. I emailed the company again yesterday. They said if they aren't here by 12/21, they can then consider them 'lost in transit'. Yeah..31 days from when they were shipped you will consider them lost? That doesn't help me when they were Christmas gifts that I can't find anywhere else. They said we will reship them using priority mail or give you a refund after that. It will be a refund and a company I will NEVER buy from again, that's for sure.
I have another one coming from Amazon, tracking says it was sent by Fed Ex, but there is 'no information, contact the seller'. I tried, it kept telling me I had an invalid order or that I wasn't buying from that seller. Had to call Amazon, who contacted the seller for me. Seller sends me a USPS tracking # that says it will be delivered today, wanna bet? And one more item , coming from Ebay, was shipped last Saturday. Tracking yesterday showed that it would arrive yesterday, but now says "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility. " What the heck is the Post Office doing with stuff all of a sudden, I have never had these issues before :(

I am waiting for a package from Pottery Barn Teen. When I click on “Track This Package” it says the package was delivered last Saturday 12/5. When I go a little deeper, it takes me to the USPS page where it says “December 10, In Transit”. Of course, today is the 12th. Do I just wait a while? I assume I can take that tracking number to the post office and ask them to look into it, right? Frustrating.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one and gives me some hope that my item may eventually be delivered.

shipped 11/30. Scanned one time but doesn’t say where. Just says “in transit to next facility, arriving on time.” However it doesn’t give an estimated delivery date. Priority mail (how it was sent) has an estimated delivery time of 3-7 days, so clearly it’s NOT arriving “on time.” I’m willing to be patient (as long as it arrives by Christmas) but I wish I knew when to expect it. I’ve also received several other items that shipped later, from farther away, but still via USPS and they arrived in a reasonable time so I’m concerned that this one is lost.

My package mailed 12/3 priority USPS (in a priority box) just arrived in Arizona today. It was supposed to be there 12/8. Sat in Indianapolis distribution center almost a week. Took 3 days to arrive in Phoenix. Boxes sent from Arizona to Indy arrived it 3 days! No rhyme or reason in that.

item from Costco shipping UPS with label created and ready for pickup 12/1 sat until 12/11 and arrived yesterday.

I’ve also had Amazon one say delivered or out for delivery (we get stuff weekly from them). Go to PO when doesn’t arrive and each time they say oh it’ll be there tomorrow- and it is .

It seems all delivery companies having issues. Thing I try to remember is once it leaves company you order from it is out of their control with delivery. They need to follow some normal guidelines about when to reship or refund money. With so many people online shipping it is as lo over news about delays. It is terrible but seems to be the norm now!

We sell on Ebay. We are in PA. We have stuff that I took to the post office on November 29 that was scanned as leaving our post office but after that just says in transit arriving late. And this is more than a handful of things. We also have about a dozen or so packages I took to the post office since then, half going to NY or NJ that have rerouted to a post office distribution center in Kansas City. At this point, I don't see a point in attempting to ship anything quickly as even the priority packages are sitting somewhere for over a week. If you are still ordering stuff online, make sure it is companies that ship something other than USPS or I would NOT count on it for Christmas!

I'm in KC so I'd love it if my package shipped from NJ would at least show that it was in the main distribution center in KCMO. An update to my post is this morning I checked and my item no longer shows as arriving on time (which I doubted it would given the lack of updates). It now shows In-Transit Arriving Late, so the earliest I can expect it now is Monday I guess. Fingers crossed.

I do want to say this is on USPS's website:

I remember Costco warning about small parcel delays after a certain date.

After posting this, I went and checked and our packages shipped in November are still in transit arriving late but haven't scanned anywhere since they left our local post office. My mother in law sent Christmas gifts from FL. The ones she shipped to MD arrived a day late. The ones she shipped to PA are now 5 days overdue and nowhere in sight. The rumor I heard is a 80,000 package backlog at the Lancaster PA distribution center and that sounds like it would account for my issues but can we work on the backlog before processing the new stuff?!?! Please!

Holy cow is that a lot of backlog!

COVID or no COVID, the USPS has always been unreliable and especially during the holidays. Priority Mail 2-Day quickly turns into 3-4-5-whenever days every December.

It’s very easy and free to start an account with UPS or FedEx. Even with PayPal you can start an account and there are usually promotion codes to give you 30-40% off published rates. AT&T sent me prepaid USPS labels to send back my old iPhone. I didn’t bother using that. I printed my own UPS Ground label at my expense. $9 well spent.

I took down all of my eBay listings today because of the shipping delays. I sent out some items a week ago First Class and none have even been scanned as reaching the sorting facility yet (all the tracking shows is they left the Post Office I shipped the packages from). I don't want to send anything else out and risk having to refund those items because the delays are so bad.

I just got something delivered a few days ago that I bought on November 19th. An Amazon order has been at my local Post Office since December 1st with no updates, I know it will get delivered eventually and am glad it's not a gift.
I took everything down that I design and use a printer/shipper with (tshirts, mugs, etc) on eBay and Etsy. I'm not going to get involved in the customer service nightmare this is looking to be. I did leave my used video games, etc up. with a big note about the shipping issues. Amazon took down the "will arrive before Christmas" about 2 days ago. My merch sales screeched to a halt but I have gotten a few more sales today. People are still buying if they don't care about the arrival date.

Yesterday when I saw the update that my package was going to be late I went in and opted in for e-mail updates. Got an e-mail update this morning that at 12:20am my package just left Jersey City Distribution Center after being there since December 8th. It must be a backlog like the PP was mentioning for the PA facility because it was supposed to be delivered by 9pm last night and it hadn't even left it's origin state by that time. My item I'm waiting on is from Etsy. They ship either UPS or USPS according to their seller page.

I noticed this statement on the shipping confirmation email for one thing we recently ordered:

"We know that you are eagerly awaiting the delivery of your order. You might have noticed that literally ALL deliveries have slowed considerably this year. Carriers like UPS, FedEx and the Postal Service are having trouble keeping up, and <company name> orders are certainly no exception.

Some orders are taking a little longer to arrive. And while we hope yours isn’t one of them, we appreciate your understanding!"

I received one of my packages this weekend. It was supposed to arrive on 12/4. It arrived 12/12. That's a big difference.

My MIL decided to mail DH, DS & me money for Christmas & DH's birthday, since we can't travel up there this year. DH's birthday card arrived 3 days after she mailed them. Unfortunately, it's starting to look like someone at USPS helped themselves to an early Christmas gift with the other card. :( I feel so bad for her that I would probably lie & tell her we got it, but I don't know how much she sent. It's too bad she didn't ask first. I would have told her to wait, until we saw her in person. All post offices aren't as trustworthy as her little, small town PO. I'm hoping it's just lost somewhere & will eventually arrive. I'd be very happy to apologize for thinking someone took it, but we've had cards & checks not arrive before.

I don’t mind so much that things are arriving later but it’s making me nuts that some companies seem to be using this as a reason to take their time to actually get things in the mail. I have three items I ordered WEEKS ago that still haven’t shipped.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I ordered a few things to ship to my dad on November 30. The order status still shows it as processing. In their email, they said that due to safety procedures at their fulfillment centers, it is taking longer to process and ship orders. I understand that. But on their Facebook page yesterday, they said that today was the last day to place an order for guaranteed delivery before Christmas. I would be afraid to place an order now knowing that it has been 15 days since I placed my last order, and it is yet to ship, despite all items being listed as in stock.

It's something he orders every year and he doesn't necessarily need it by Christmas, but it would be nice to get an order update.

I added insurance to a USPS priority box that my parents were to sign for. I had several hundreds of dollars of gift cards (sent other family gifts in same box). It took almost 2 weeks to arrive when I got text update saying they signed and received- called and they said no they didn’t sign or receive. So the went to mailbox and there it was... thankfully. Post office after this said because of COVID they aren’t doing signature- my issue please explain that when you ask if I want signature confirmation

We never mail gift cards in envelopes as someone opened my sons graduation card 5 years ago from my sister- took out gift card because you could feel it and taped card up.

Hopefully everyone will get their presents in time

The USPS tracking site has been down most of yesterday and this morning. Same boat here - packages stuck in KY and NJ. I don't need them by Christmas, but I am so type A it makes me nuts for there to be no update for 10 days.

I ship a fair amount of packages due to ebay stuff (95 packages in last 90 days) and I have had very few issues until this year. Almost everything goes USPS.

Right now I have:
-Priority mail package that has shown no movement since post office receipt scan on 11/30
-2 first class packages that have shown no movement since a distribution center on 12/8
-3 packages that were dropped off at the post office inside drop box on 12/7 that have not shown a scan yet
-4 packages that were dropped off in the post office drop box yesterday that have already gone through the regional distribution center
-First class package dropped off 12/8 that was delivered in Texas on 12/14. Handful of others that were shipped first class and delivered in less than a week also.

Like... I'm okay with delays but the inconsistency is what really bothers me. I have no idea what to tell a customer when tracking has shown no movement for 2 weeks.

Worst part is that most of the stuff I sell is under a pound and FedEx/UPS are at least double the cost for items like that. Not a big deal for an occasional shipment but with higher volumes it adds up quick. USPS has been reliable for me historically but this year has been spotty and it really went off a cliff after black friday.
