I learned 2 new things about vinegar on this board, so please post any uses you have.

The two new ones to me were:

  • Use instead of fabric softener in the washing machine
  • Fill up the spot-free container in your dishwasher with it

You can clean/kill mold with white vinegar.

We are ripping up our carpet soon and since we live in FL know we will find some mold/mildew (the place until 2 years ago was closed up for 6 months a year) and asked around as to what to use. Bleach was mentioned, but I am allergic and didn't want to use it around my dog. So I was told to use white vinegar, thus far it's worked GREAT in the shower!

This site has some great info:

My favorite is to boil some in the microwave to get rid of food smells. It also wafts into the kitchen so it is great to do after cooking stuff that lingers.

Another fave is drain clearing/cleaning.

Put about 1/2c baking soda in the drain and pour 1/2c vinegar..it will bubble (you know, like in the grade school science projects!). When bubbling slows, pour a tea pot full of boiling water in.:thumbsup2

Cool - I remember reading that it's just as good at killing germs as Lysol. That seems hard to believe, but if it kills mold, it must be.

THIS is also good (and safe) for cleaning garbage disposals!

I filled up a spray bottle with it about 75% and water the other 25% to dilute it and it's not working at all on my mold. :(

I am using it in my DW in the rinse agent/jet dry part.

I use it diluted w/water to mop my hardwood laminate floors.

Don't forget that you can run it through your drip coffee pots to remove deposits and calcification.

It works great at cleaning stainless steel.....I have mine in a spray bottle. I use it around the sink and on the appliances.

A baggie of White Vinegar tied around the shower head will make it spray better.

Spray it on glass shower doors to remove soap scum. It also gets the smell of vomit out of the carpet.

Another Dis poster said that you can soak a cotton ball in vinigar, then duct tape it to a planter wart. W/I days, the wart turns black and falls off. It was a very long thread where people came back after trying it saying that it worked for them.

Did someone have a formula for filling the Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner with vinegar and allowing it to spray the shower walls to keep them clean?

use it with water mix for the dogs ears to clean them out due to chronic ear issues..

Use it in my bath water to help with dry skin.

herc.

Because of the Dis, I go through so much vinegar now!!

i soak DH's underarmor shirts in it. he has to wear them under his police uniform and bullet proof vest and no matter how much you wash them, the under arm odor sticks to them. every once in a while i throw them all in a bucket with white vinegar overnight, then run thru the wash the next day. no more BO! (in the summer when it is worse, i even scrub the underarms wtih baking soda)

I am a Canadian so white vinegar is great on french fries. Also, cleaning the tea pot.

I used the vinegar trick in my coffee pot just the other day. I did take quiet a lot of rinsing to get the vinegar taste out but it worked wonders. :)
