Uses for White Vinegar

I'm adding white vinegar to my shopping list!!!

My grandma always put it out after cooking fried foods, to help eliminate odor....just poured some in a little bowl. I forgot about that till now.....

I use it in my coffee pot all the time but has anyone ever heard of using it in a humidifier??? DS has the Thomas humidifier and I cannot figure out how to clean it, especially in the little spots where your fingers don't fit. Do you think it would be safe or even work?:confused3

I've used vinegar mixed with water as a wrinkle remover for shirts.
It works great on the shower head ...
just pour vinegar in a baggy & attach to the arm of the shower head w/ large rubberband or twist-tie
& let that shower head soak away.
It takes care of all the built- up lime deposits.

I use it to clean my kitchen counters and sink and stove. I like it because I don't have to worry about food dropping on the counter and picking up the chemicals of other cleaners.

I pour a bunch in a bowl, put it in the microwave until steaming, then pour some on each of the counters (we have formica), and wipe around. Then I 'rinse' it off with regular water and dry with a dry towel. I have a black stove and it comes out spotless, any other cleaner I've tried leaves spots or streaks. So I'm pretty happy with it.

tricia.

I started using it instead of fabric softener last week after reading another vinegar post here. I've been using it for quite some time to mop the floor and for windows. And, after reading this thread, I have some other good things I'll use it for. Now...question is....where can I buy it by the gallon? :lmao: I only had a couple of partially used smaller bottles here and I'm running out.

The grocery store usually has half gallons and Sam's has it for a good price.
I used it as a final rinse when I wash dogs to be sure all the soap is gone.

Thanks! I just put the last of mine in the washer.

:thumbsup2 Thank you for being a little more graphic with your description of how this works!!! I definitely will be trying this.... from the pp I thought it was like some voodoo ritual that you hang a baggie of vinegar off the neck of the shower head to unclog it... just letting it hang there. You can just imagine my scientific mind going to work on that :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (fumes?.... no, sealed bag... chemical reaction from the plastic tie to the metal neck?.... no, not possible no contact with the vinegar... magic? maybe?) :lmao:

Did someone have a formula for filling the Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner with vinegar and allowing it to spray the shower walls to keep them clean?

I want to know how to do this too - I wonder how you refill the bottle? I would much rather spray a vinegar solution in the shower, it bugs me that there's cleaner residue when I give my daughter a bath so I always run the shower first to rinse it out (which probably defeats the purpose of the the scrubbing bubbles shower cleaner!).

This is a trick I learned from my mom and I have been doing it for 20 years:

Any brand-new fabric item that is likely to bleed (black, red, dark blue, etc), I run it through the wash with cold water and vinegar only (no soap). Somehow, it "locks" in the dye so the items can be washed with other clothes and they don't bleed in future loads.

:cool1:

I use it to remove water deposits on my plastic water dispenser tray on the fridge. Also mix it w/ baking soda (bubbles) in the toilet.

A word of caution: I used a vinegar/water combo to clean my Pergo floors. A couple of months later I noticed the seams of the flooring were starting to buckle. I think the vinegar dissolves the floor adhesive. Also, NEVER use vinegar on granite countertops--it will etch them.

Walmart sells it by the gallon for $1.87. :lmao: :lmao: I bought it the other day after I read about using it in the wash! It works wonders!!! :thumbsup2

I too would love to know how you use it in your scrubbing bubbles shower cleaner...those refills are too expensive.

Got this one out of a book I found in my grandmothers attic: Mix vinegar and salt to clean brass and copper. The ratio doesn't really matter...and you will be amazed at how easily the tarnish comes off.

This is what I've been doing for about a week now with apple cider vinegar:

Each morning I drink 2 TBSP natural apple cider vinegar follwed by a cup of water. Within 3 days the pain in my heel (which I've had for about 2 months now) has just about disappeared. My aching elbow no longer aches and my body in general feels so much better, none of the little middle aged aches and pains.

I've rubbed it on my dogs itchy scaley skin and it has improved almost overnight.

I'm now using it as an astringent on my face before I go to bed and my skin feels so smooth.

I'm anxious to see if it will help lower my cholesterol. It did for my mother when she used it a few years ago.

I heard about the internal benefits of natural apple cider vinegar on the radio last week and after doing some research on the internet decided it couldn't hurt - and I really have noticed a difference. :yay:

Now - with having 2 geriatric dogs and a puppy in the house white vinegar has also become a staple in my house. It's great with "piddles" . A good odor reducer.:worship:

I have swimmers here and use lots of vinegar. When you get a new suit, pout a half cup of vinegar in the bathroom sink w/ cold water and soak your suit--then rinse with plain water. Everytime you wear it, some home and soak it in this solution. it helps the suit color stay bright, even with high chlorine and sun bleaching, and it extends the life of the lycra in the suit. I also use it in the washer for washing their towels that get left in the locker all week and come home smelling mildew-y. Works like a charm and the towels are really soft, too, without buildup.:thumbsup2

Be careful on faucets, etc. I once left a paper towel soaked in vinegar on my kitchen faucet overnight to reduce the hard water buildup. The next day it had eaten the chrome finish off the brass! It was a cheapo faucet so we replaced it and I've never let it get bad like that, this build-up was from a previous owner:scared:

Here are some of my uses that I was taught my my grandmother. Sorry if they are duplicated:
Ziploc bag with paper towels soaked in vinegar. Wrap them around faucets and shower heads cover with a ziploc so it doesn't dry out wait for an hour, rinse off..they are great at getting off soap scum and hard water stians.

Add vinegar to wash esp if you have hard water.

Dishwasher, or when you wash dishes by hand.

Clean pet food and water bowls. This will kill the germs but is safe if there is any vinegar residue left.

Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner: 50%water, 25%vinegar, 25% bleach (at least this is my recipe)

Baking soda & vinegar clean just about anything together. I also do the baking soda in all my sinks and wash it down with vinegar. Keeps drains smelling nice and keeps them from clogging.

Cleans off hard water stains or calcium build up.

I also have a spray bottle 75% vinegar 25% water. I keep it by the toliet to clean is numerous times a day. No I am not a clean freak..I have a 4 year old boy.
