Uses for White Vinegar

I've used it in toilets that have hard water deposits. I just pour in 2 cups and let it sit for an hour before scrubbing! It was the only thing that worked after trying many expensive cleaners :)
I also used it on my hair diluted as a rinse after shampooing to really clean my hair after I've used a lot of hair products(which I rarely use). It isn't something I'd do often because of the smell and not wanting it to dry out my hair, but a few times a year....it works GREAT!

Wow , I have learned alot today about the many uses of vinegar. I just went and tried it on my kitchen sink with the baking soda. It seems to have helped. Now I need to add vinegar to the grocery list.

Thanks for all the ideas!!

Vinegar also works as a weed killer, but be careful, because it also kills grass! Use it full strength to kill weeds, either pour it on or use a sprayer. I use it to kill weeds in my sidewalk or in my landscaping, but not next to the grass!

ETA, I wouldn't mix bleach with vinegar for ANY cleaning, especially not in your automatic shower cleaner. Mixing bleach with other chemicals can cause major reactions. I don't know what the mixture should be, but vinegar and water in some ratio would probably be fine. Here's some information about the dangers of mixing bleach with other cleaners.

Here are some of my uses that I was taught my my grandmother. Sorry if they are duplicated:
Ziploc bag with paper towels soaked in vinegar. Wrap them around faucets and shower heads cover with a ziploc so it doesn't dry out wait for an hour, rinse off..they are great at getting off soap scum and hard water stians.

Add vinegar to wash esp if you have hard water.

Dishwasher, or when you wash dishes by hand.

Clean pet food and water bowls. This will kill the germs but is safe if there is any vinegar residue left.

Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner: 50%water, 25%vinegar, 25% bleach (at least this is my recipe)

Baking soda & vinegar clean just about anything together. I also do the baking soda in all my sinks and wash it down with vinegar. Keeps drains smelling nice and keeps them from clogging.

Cleans off hard water stains or calcium build up.

I also have a spray bottle 75% vinegar 25% water. I keep it by the toliet to clean is numerous times a day. No I am not a clean freak..I have a 4 year old boy.
:thumbsup2 Thank you!

This is what I've been doing for about a week now with apple cider vinegar:

Each morning I drink 2 TBSP natural apple cider vinegar follwed by a cup of water. Within 3 days the pain in my heel (which I've had for about 2 months now) has just about disappeared. My aching elbow no longer aches and my body in general feels so much better, none of the little middle aged aches and pains.

I've rubbed it on my dogs itchy scaley skin and it has improved almost overnight.

I'm now using it as an astringent on my face before I go to bed and my skin feels so smooth.

I'm anxious to see if it will help lower my cholesterol. It did for my mother when she used it a few years ago.

I heard about the internal benefits of natural apple cider vinegar on the radio last week and after doing some research on the internet decided it couldn't hurt - and I really have noticed a difference. :yay:

Now - with having 2 geriatric dogs and a puppy in the house white vinegar has also become a staple in my house. It's great with "piddles" . A good odor reducer.:worship:
I agree with you about telling the difference in the way you feel by taking the apple cider vinegar. I forgot about that....I'll have to start taking it again. :goodvibes

I refilled my scrubbing bubbles thingy w/ a 75% vinegar, 25% water solution. I think it worked better than the original refills, but I don't think it was the best thing ever. I'll put it this way, when my thingy died...I didn't replace it.

I do use a vinegar, ammonia, water solution on virtually everything in my house to clean and it works FABULOUSLY! I don't have the recipe w/ me, but I think it's 2T ammonia, 1T vinegar and the rest is water in an old windex bottle. It works great and is CHEAP!

are you talking about the scrubbing bubbles machine?? I think the machine is a great idea but the bottles are kind of pricey to replace every 2 weeks.

I buy my vinegar by the (2) 1 gallon packages @ Sam's Club. It is way cheaper there then anywhere else.
Also thanks for the tip about the new clothes and washing them in cold water and vinegar only...I just bought some new summer outfits today and a new bathing suit!
I love this place.....DIS board'rs are the best!

You can clean/kill mold with white vinegar.

We are ripping up our carpet soon and since we live in FL know we will find some mold/mildew (the place until 2 years ago was closed up for 6 months a year) and asked around as to what to use. Bleach was mentioned, but I am allergic and didn't want to use it around my dog. So I was told to use white vinegar, thus far it's worked GREAT in the shower!

Try this:

1/2 gal. white vinegar
1/2 gal. hydrogen peroxide-common peroxide available from your drugstore
1 cup boric acid
keep closed tightly
mix well - use in a spray bottle on a dry surface.

We were selling MIL house and it tested out with mold. The commercial price for removing it was close to 2,500 dollars.

Used the above and it passed inspection with flying colors.

The boric acid keeps it from coming back. It is the same principle as using with ****roaches. It breaks down the spores.

I have never had a problem mixing bleach with vinegar. I would never mix bleach with a household cleaning product, though.

Instead of purchasing stain cleaner for your clothes! Use White Vinegar those stains come right out! Amazing!! I also put in washer for clothes with stains also!

Here are a few more.

If you are letting out a hem in clothing, spray with water with a few tablespoons of white vinegar added as you press and the hem will be much less noticeable. It really works for me.

To remove paint smells, put a bowl of white vinegar in the room overnight.

Our son's pediatric ear doctor told me to mix 1/3 white vinegar, 1/3 rubbing alcohol and 1/3 distilled water and put a few drops in his ears after a shower to dry them. We have chronic swimmers ears in our family. This is in leu of the prescription drops.

Hey, it makes a great vinagrette dressing too. :thumbsup2

Is there any possibility that vinegar will remove mold from the canvas on my camper? Any help will be greatly appreciated....thanks.

How do you use vinegar in the washer? Do you add it to the load as you would fabric softner or do you add it when you add the soap?

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. My pop-up could use some help.:)

I pour some where I would would put the fabric softener. I started using vinegar after I spent HOURS trying to clean the dispenser and saw all the black crud that fabric softener left behind. My clothes are just as soft with vinegar and I'm saving money. I buy huge bottles at BJ's.

We have some black spots on our carpet that keep returning, I suspect it might possibly be mold. If I tried this would I just spray it in top of the carpet? How much did you saturate it?

How much should I put in? A couple tablespoons or more?

I don't think so. Her mother had this on her rug. We had to remove it. The mold went deep down into the padding, which may be the case with your rug.

Before I knew about the vinegar I was using peroxide to remove the stain and it came back. We had removed the rug already so can't really say if it would work.

By the way peroxide is a stain remover. Make sure it won't discolor the rug. And the beauty thing about it is you don't have to rinse it out. When left in air it turns to water. Just let it dry.
