Uses for White Vinegar

great thread........thought it deserved a bump, found it via the other thread.

I'm a bleach addict. I'll admit it. Love my clorox cleaner w/bleach, love my clorox wipes (I know there isn't bleach in them, but still love 'em). I think I'll try the vinegar/water mix and see. I just so worry about my germy bathroom---2 DS's with poor aim.

And do you use the same solution for everything.....kitchen counters/sinks, bathrooms, etc.?? Or is it a different water:vinegar ratio for different rooms?

Okay, I just cleaned my coffee maker and let the hot vinegar sit in my pot for a while to help clean it. When I went to empty the pot....it hit me! I first dumped some baking soda in my drain and poured the hot vinegar over it! A clean sink and clear drain!
Now to rinse the coffee maker a few hundred times....

Has anyone used it for fabric softener and put some 'scent' into it with essential oils?? I already use the homemade laundry detergent and really like that, but can't seem to give up my Downy because I like the way it makes the laundry smell. Anyone here made some good smelling fabric softener and what scent essential oils did you use. I know NOTHING about essential oils!!!

thanks so much for the tip about using white vinegar as softener. i tried it and it really works. i even hung the bath towels outside to see if i would get complaints - not a one! i think they even absorbed water better.

I hate to bump an old thread but i have to save this for later reading :) some great tips!!

ok, I'm hoping I don't get flamed(doning flamesuit as we speak) for this but it does work and our vet (old as the hills) is the one who told me to try it.

To break your dog from chasing cars, fill a squirt gun with vinegar and water. As he starts chasing the car, squirt him. it really does work. The dog hates the smell of vinegar and associates it with chasing cars and quits.

we have also used this to break a cat from getting on the counter, table, etc.

Vinegar will fade freckles. I use it on my shoulders in the summer if I start getting freckles from the sun. Use 2x a day and they will fade over time.

My parents are from the Philippines and vinegar is THE condiment over there. A sauteed meat dish called adobo is pork or chicken cooked with vinegar, soy sauce, bay leaf, and peppercorns.

My favorite thing is fried foods and vinegar. Fried fish, vegetables, and eggrolls are great with vinegar. Especially if you infuse the vinegar with chillis and whole garlic cloves. You just stick a handfull of each in a bottle of white vinegar (after making a little room in the bottle) and let it sit for a few days to get spicy. It cuts the greasiness in the fried food.

Since it's only vinegar, it's a worry free condiment. No fat or salt. Even my "All American boy" loves this with fried fish and rice!
