Just wondering, does anyone have an upside down Christmas Tree? I saw one at the Sears website. It looks really weird to me.

I have a friend who does that...it is a tradition her mother started when she was a kid, so I am not sure of the origins of why her mother did it. Her mother has since passed away, so continuing the tradition is very important to my friend.

Hers is not a floor style Christmas tree though...it is about 1.5-2 feet tall and hangs on the wall. The floor style ones just look so odd to me.

I saw one at Menards yesterday and thought it was very strange looking. I have never seen one before. What is the purpose?? So it takes up less floor space? So you can put more presents underneath?? I don't get it :confused3

I saw one at Big Lots too. It does look kinda strange, but I imagine your ornaments would be easier to see.

I had a childhood friend who's mom always hung their upside-down from the ceiling. It always looked so strange. Then a few years back my mom and step-dad put theirs upside-down in the corner hanging from the ceiling. It was odd looking for sure but there was tons of floor space. That is the only time they did that. I haven't seen the ones in the stores yet. Are they upside-down in a stand?

The one I say was in a stand. I just wondered how long it would be before the cat would knock it over! Seemed a little top heavy

Here's a picture of one. They have them on the Sears website too.

That's just plain wierd-looking...what is the purpose? I guess you could only do this with a fake tree?

It is a german tradition I believe. Not sure why as I am not of German herratage. We saw one at Menards so I asked MIL and that is what she told me (She's German).

::yes::

If there is a tradition behind it, I respect that. But goodness it really looks silly.

the first upside down xmas tree i saw was in the wonderful shop at apopka which has now alas closed down but it was hung from the ceiling, i loved it, have seen a couple in u.s.a. xmas shops since and keep meaning to try it!

they've been out for a couple of years now... I guess it will take awhile before it catches on. Once they're decorated, they may look ok, but I'm still not used to them. On a wall for decoration, but not as my Christmas Tree.
