I apologize if this has been discussed before, but it used to be when you would upgrade your stateroom, you would pay the rate that it would have been the day you booked. It appears that is no longer the case, as I just tried to upgrade from OV to Verandah. When I booked, the cost would have been $1000. Today it is $2800. Anyone else have the same experience? Thanks.

They have changed this policy recently, yes.

Yes I noticed too. Just even changing staterooms within same category shows big difference. Too bad. I had liked the flexibility to modify location. Also noticed when you log into castaway club, no longer can you see the list of staterooms you had once sailed. Also disappointing as I liked using that list as reference.
I didn't notice you could not even change your stateroom within the same category. That is extra disappointing and really no reason for it. You could probably do it without charge if you called in, but we all know the struggle with that currently.

Wow, didn’t know that. I’ve changed rooms within the exact same category in the past

I thought the same but that's actually not true. When you look at the cruise, it will quote the current price for the room change. But if you select continue, the next page will show you the actual price which will revert to the pricing from when you originally booked. I think a lot of people get discouraged by the price difference and don't go any further. I just looked at 2 of my cruises and they both reverted to the original pricing structure on the next page. Not sure why they changed it but as of now, the pricing should still be the same even if it doesn't appear that way at first.

If you select "continue," do you still have the option to stick with your original room? I don't want to accidentally lose my original room. I am not 100% sure I want to do the upgrade, just wanted to double check the price.

Yes. Nothing is official until you get to the final checkout page. when you choose a room and select continue, it takes you to another page that shows the actual price difference based on your reservation. The page after that is the checkout page where you would actually agree to the price difference and checkout. I don't know why they would do this but I am glad they are honoring the original booking price. It's just adding unnecessary confusion at the same time.

Did you do this recently? Very recently? It's only been about a month or so, but DCL announced this change as part of the IT update. Changing stateroom category would be at current rates, not the older rate when initially booked. I didn't realize it meant changing rooms within the same category -- that seems unreasonable to me.

Thanks for the info. You were correct. It shows the higher price then even after hit continue it showed the higher price then it flipped and said $0.00 to change. Thanks. That is different than prior but just glad we can change rooms within same cat!

Another day, another new sour taste in my mouth... we've done this more than a few times as we got closer to sailing and had a clearer view of our budget. I wonder how this really affects their bottom line at the end of the day, since its always been considered easier for them to sell lower category rooms.

I tried it today. If you look at the first page, it shows I moved from 5B to 5C and the price went up $119. On the next page. it actually shows a credit of $63. I kept track of the prices the day I booked and this is the same pricing had I booked a 5C months ago. So I don't know if the change hasn't gone into effect yet but obviously they have it in place to do so and it appears that way when you initially look at the booking.

I just got around to checking again upgrading from OV to verandah. I went all the way through until I would have to put payment information in and hit "Confirm", which seemed to be the last screen I could go to. But it was still $2800 to upgrade, when it was $1000 when I booked opening day.
