UPDATED: New Discount Being Released 12-21

Hey Len... Love your podcast.

I am going down for 5days in Scopa Towers (POP) 4A2C (so two rooms) during Presidents week. So b5g2 did not apply. We don't have a PIN. While only 3 people in my party needed tickets, assuming I can the gift card one a 1 day pass... this offer is better than I what I was otherwise stuck with (rack rates and no discount).

Did you try to get the January / February Room Only discount (which can also be converted to a package)?

:surfweb:So..... this is not quite as good a deal as I was hoping for... unless it is also combined with a room discount. We currently are going for 5 nights. We did get a pin for 30% off value. If we pay rack rates for our room and use the $300 gc for food we would only save $73. If we can't use it for food then it does not help at all. Oh well.... a savings is a savings ;)but not enough to let me book another trip in Aug.:sad2: This does help those that do not have a code though.:thumbsup2

Given the junk Disney for the most part only sells now in their gift shops, I'd probably spend mine on those over priced bottles of booze they also sell! I mean, time was when a gift card for merchandise would have made my day. But I have two teens now and I don't find Disney merchandise the huge temptation or desire it used to be for me.

So if its only good on merchandise, and they offer it for Easter Week, then I hope I can buy something I'll actually want and enjoy!

If you have to pay full rack rate to get a gift card which can't be used for food, then this deal doesn't make sense at all.

If you are saving $250 real dollars to get a $300 gift card, it's like getting 16%of merchandise. Plus, now you'll be buying items that you wouldn't have purchased with cash, but now that you have the card, it's like why not. This just seems like the past $395 for a $500 gift card, but with no room discount. i think the $250 is cash goes further than a $300 gift card or $400 for a $500. just my opinion

I will be watching Monday to see the deals! I have booked room only with the 40% off, which I am happy with. I think the $750 would be more than my discount at the WL, however I don't want that for just merchandise. Food and drinks, yes! How many bottles of water would that buy from the gift shop :)

I have read through this entire thread and it seems people are saying different things as to what the giftcard can be used for. Can it be used for dining? What about non-restaurant dining . . . popcorn or a snack in one of the parks? What about alcohol? Can it be used to rent mouse boats?

If it can't be used for any of the above then it really isn't a saving at all for those of us who do not spend a lot of money on merchandise. I feel like I am missing something here. To me it's a win-win for Disney . . . they're not discouting anything but instead louring people into their shops.

What's the rumor that this will be offered along with the 4/3 or 5/2? That seems too unbelievable.

thanks for any info!!!

I've been doing some math this morning, comparing this new deal to the current Buy-4-Get-3-Free (b4g3) and Buy-5-Get-2-Free (b5g2). I could be wrong about all of this, but here's what I've got.

The new Gift Card Promo makes sense for those:

1) With two or more rooms at a deluxe resort, if booked separately

2) At a moderate resort for 7 nights (b4g3), with 2 adults and 2 or 3 kids

3) At a value resort for 7 nights (b5g2), with 2 adults and 2 or 3 kids

For all other scenarios, the original deals seem to be better.

Anyone else re-priced their trips at this new rate?

Len...

I currently have booked 1 BC room for 8 nights with a 40% pin code. I may have to book 2 rooms because we may have an extra guest. For now lets just stick with what i have, I am saving approx $1272 on the room. IF the discount includes a nominal say 20% room discount plus the $750 card CAN be used for food, then the deal gets very close at around $636 room discount plus $750 card equals total saving of $1386. If there is no room discount then i am better off with my 40%.

Guessing that there is no room discount, I did some various options to check. For mine the buy4 is the better deal, Plus I do not have put more money on my credit card at final payment. While the Gift card may work for some, the ones I looked at it did not.

I have zero sources, but I'm 100% sure this gift card will be eligible for dining. All of the past offers Disney has done with gift cards has included dining and I don't see how this would be different.

The only exception is the merchandise card they sell... but I doubt that is what will be included in this package.

Oh well, we'll see on Tuesday.

Last January we got 4+3 and a $200 gift card. So you may be able to get both. That would be sweet. And we could use the card for anything. Currently I have a ressie at pop for 5+2.

This offer is really only good for those of us that can't travel during the time frames available on the current offer. We were coming in late May no matter what and there were no discounts available for us. That makes the gift card meaningful for us. For those that already have a discount this gift card deal is worthless to them. Especially if it is only good on merchandise.

Great for us but not for everyone

Last year the Gift Card was offered with the 4+3 deal, from what I have read it is not a deal together, to me it means either/or. Meaning you wouldn't be able to use them together.

What I did was price my Poly GV at full price on the WDW website and it is $1200 more than my current price for the 7/4. We are staying 7 nights and are 2 adults, 2 children. Even the $750 gift card isn't a good deal for me. The other reason is that we really do not buy much anymore at Disney. If it is available to use for food that would be good for others that don't have a discount or are staying less than 7 nights.

The other thing people can do, if they were planning to, is to book another Disney vacation and use the gift card towards the amount due.

I would suggest those that want to compare and have a discount is to go to Disney's website and price your package at full price compared to what you are currently paying and make your decision based on those numbers.

We're booked for the first week of May with a pin. 35% off at CBR. For us, the pin is about a $550 savings, so still a better deal than this new one.

i am still pinless so this is better than nothing, altho i admint i will be bummed if we cant use this on food! I cant imagine spending $500 on disney "stuff"

We never buy "stuff" on a Disney vacation. Most of it is useless to me, the boys usually pick out 1 T-shirt and maybe something small, but honestly its alot of junk. We enjoy walking through the shops to look around, but never would spend hundreds of dollars on souveniers. I sooooo hope that we can use the gift card on FOOD! Then I would cancel the dining plan.

I also don't have a PIN (I've tried all the tricks as well) so getting ANYTHING would be lovely! :) I am really wishing pixie dust on us that this gift card can be used for food like it has in the past. I've just crunched some numbers for us and I'll likely drop off the dining plan and use the $300 gift towards food only if so. I realize we'll use more than the $300 but we'll still make out better since I wouldn't spend $300 on "stuff". Now don't get me wrong, I surely could but at least with putting it towards our dining I know it's saving me in the long run. The dining for us is $479.85 and going through our ADR's and picking out what we're likely to eat and then adding a "buffer" we'd only be out of pocket about $160.00 but since we're dropping the $479.85 it's a net savings of about $320 for us which is a decent savings!! :cool1:

We've had the dining plan for our first two trips and we've always enjoyed it and took advantage of trying different things. That said, we don't eat a lot and I usually drink water and rarely eat desserts so this won't be hard for us to share a dessert every now and then and not order many drinks. This way we can really compare the savings for the future trips.

Heather

Some of us don't have a choice.

I have no PIN.

No discounts for a 5 day stay during Presidents week that I can find.

So this is better than nothing.

As long as they do not black out Presidents week, they have in the past.:sad2:
