UPDATED: New Discount Being Released 12-21

Definitely will not bite at this one! Disney will have to do a percentage off room or 4/3 pkg again if they want to see mass bookings.
It's good for those of us going regardless of the deal. Hopefully something better comes along before June but if it doesn't, I can still find a use for the $300.

Ditto. We are going in January no matter what and so having the option of 750 dollars spending money is AMAZING for us. :goodvibes:goodvibes

When they say merchandise, does that mean we cannot use it on the mini golf and stuff like that? I mean is it literally only clothes and toys and such?

I don't care either way but am curious.

I hope this is true! I wanted to go again and would love a 4/3 deal but planned on 5 days anyway so this would seal the deal for me :)

Can the cards be used to pay for DVC maintenance?

How about upgrading tickets?

Very interesting about the gift card. I hope it's for everything but I will still probably book it because it's a good deal for me since I do buy merchandise.

Oh happy day!!! I will get to celebrate graduation at the World!! Now I'm relaly motivated to get this degree wrapped up!

Well we got a pin, so if we go I think it will be a better deal for us, unless they have some sort of room discount with it.
if you can use the money only on merchandise, it's not enticing to me. I don't think things like BBB, pirates league and the pirate cruises are included in that, and those are things I would want to use it for.
We most likely would stay at Pop and if we did go, we many not even stay for 5 days. It will be more of a budget trip if we go. And flights from our town go back and forth on Sundays and Thursdays. So that meas 4 nights max. Of course I want to stay longer, but if it is a choice of 4 night or no nights, guess which I pick. LOL! I can't wait to hear what the actual deal is tho.

I definitely agree because if youre going do matter if there is a deal in place or not then this would work out great. I just dont think that this will lure in a lot of major bookings like a 4/3 deal would. We went under the 4/3 deal this year and dont have plans to go in 2010 yet because of possible other vacation ideas but let me tell you if the 4/3 deal or another similiar was offered, those other ideas would be put on hold and I would be booking Disney at a blink of an eye!

I am thrilled to hear about this. We are planning to go for 5 nites (just so happens) during Presidents week in Feb. I have booked air... I have park tickets for most in the party... but have held off on reserving a room as there is no disocunts we can use for that week.... YET.

Getting a $300 gift card is pretty good. Rack rate for room only at POP was $726 (so this equates to a 41% discount). I will be online Monday AM to book.

I hope they dont require us to buy tickets to get this deal. (I have more one day passes then I will probably ever use!)

I am pretty sure that the gift card offer will be only on package reservations that include park tickets.

I thought I read that Disney World no longer even sells the Disney dollars, but I could be wrong

Here is my question...

I would need two deluxe rooms. Would i get a gift card for each or would i need to make 2 separate reservations? If i do need separate reservations, how is that done? One room under my name with kids and one room under DH's name with kids?

Thanks

I already have a package booked (with no discounts) for May 27th through June 5th. I hope this rumor is true so I can rebook. I wonder if I'll have to make two reservations since mine goes beyond June 3rd.

Me too...we leave on the 5th.

I believe you will have to make 2 separate reservations, one under your name and one under your husband's to get the two gift cards. For $1500 in gift cards it's totally worth it!

I've been doing some math this morning, comparing this new deal to the current Buy-4-Get-3-Free (b4g3) and Buy-5-Get-2-Free (b5g2). I could be wrong about all of this, but here's what I've got.

Note that the new discount requires a 5-day MYW base ticket purchase.

So far, the new promo seems to make sense for those:

1) Staying at a value resort for 6 nights on the Buy-5-Get-2 Free deal, where only 1 night would have been free. (The two scenarios I've seen include 1 adult and 2 adults, so I don't know yet whether kids make a difference).

2) Staying at a value resort for 5 nights with no discount, with 4-day MYW+PH tickets. In this case (2 adults and 2 kids), paying for the extra day on the MYQ tickets increases the total slightly, but getting the $300 gift card more than makes up for the difference.

I haven't seen other scenarios where this deal beats the original deals.

Anyone else re-priced their trips at this new rate? (Note: my original post didn't take into account this new discount's 5-day MYW ticket requirement. Sorry.)

The new Gift Card Promo makes sense for those:

1) With two or more rooms at a deluxe resort, if booked separately

2) At a moderate resort for 7 nights (b4g3), with 2 adults and 2 or 3 kids

3) At a value resort for 7 nights (b5g2), with 2 adults and 2 or 3 kids

For all other scenarios, the original deals seem to be better.

no it doesn't make sense, can you show the actual math

When it comes to modifying an existing discounted package - I personally think, because you will now have to pay "full price" for your package, you'll find some people who would rather keep the discount they currently have even if the savings is less than the amount of the gift card they will receive. People are going to be hesitant to reach into their wallets and pull out another couple of hundred dollars towards their vacation just to get a gift card. I could be wrong but people are having a hard enough time getting the money together to pay for their discounted package. Now they'll have to scrape together even more money. That's just my opinion.

As for people who have no discount at all they will now have something.

Hey Len... Love your podcast.

I am going down for 5days in Scopa Towers (POP) 4A2C (so two rooms) during Presidents week. So b5g2 did not apply. We don't have a PIN. While only 3 people in my party needed tickets, assuming I can the gift card one a 1 day pass... this offer is better than I what I was otherwise stuck with (rack rates and no discount).
