*UPDATED*greenban EXCLUSIVE: FINAL AKL UPDATE

Correct, for stays at AKV for after September 1st.

I believe the person was saying that for stays at other resorts, the stay must be after September 1st also. So no using your AKV points to stay at OKW in July.

This is the way I understood it from my guide as well. I think the reason must be is AKV will not be available until that date, so points from that resort cannot be used elsewhere. I assume this is because techincally the points are not "valid" (for lack of a better word) until the resort is open.

Oops - sorry 'bout that - I re-read the post and see how this could well be the meaning - thanks for the clarification.

Its a little upsetting for me to see people offering points for rent on the rent/transfer boards for AKV.

Geez at least let some actual owners get first crack at some of the first reservations.:(

We've got 06 SSR points that I may put on the rent/transfer board, But I just don't feel right renting, I'd rather transfer to a fellow dvc'er, just my opinion!

 ... I'm not surprised ...

And, considering this is a recent buy-in, these are obviously for-profit type transactions and not, "Oh, something came up and I won't be able to use the points this year ... " transactions ;)

But, again, I'm not surprised ... considering the few units available, a lot of people are going to want to jump on the Christmas / New Years events at AKV. ;)

I don't agree - it is entirely possible that a buyer chose developer points over the $8 as potentially more valuable (the one renter I saw was renting for $15) but was unable to use those developer points before the early expiration date.

But if they are renting out their developer points, then they should not be advertising them as an "AKV rental" because their developer points will expire before AKV is even open.

Exactly ... and $15-16 a point seems ... well ... high ... ;)

I am not sure where I read this, but I am pretty sure it said somewhere you can only rent a confirmed reservation in the DVC paperwork. It's against the rules to rent reservation 'futures' if you will. I'll have to look for that later when I get the chance.

Is that in the new POS maybe? I don't remember seeing that anywhere ...

In the component site public offering statement book for AKV's, page 35 midway down:

"No Owner may directly rent, exchange or otherwise use his or her Ownership Interest without making a prior reservation of an available Vacation Home at the Animal Kingdom Resort on a first come, first served basis."

Very very interesting ... I guess their push to limit commercial renting continues ...

But do you think this will actually increase speculative booking/renting???

I don't see this as anything different. Of course you can't reserve, rent or exchange or use a reservation without making it!! It would have to be available to make it as well.

OOPS, again - good point! Although, personally I am using my developer points for what was a rental using SSR contract points, which then frees up additional points (SSR or AKV) to rent should we choose.

Of course, I decided to add a trip to Vero Beach instead (May '07).:thumbsup2 I am also hoping to be able to change my Dec trip to AKV, but if I am unsuccessful I'll be quite happy going "home" to SSR in Dec.

i, for one feel as tho the first purchasers should be allowed to have the first reservations, using their own pts. from akv, not people using rented pts. or pts from other resorts.

not meaning to be selfish but i put my neck and my money out there the first day of sales and i want to be able to get res. in beginning or not too long after. i will not be asking for the opening day, altho i wish i could be there for the opening. will there be a grand opening day event of some kind, even if it is a small one?:)

it was my understanding that developer pts. must be used at a different resort and not at akv! is this true or not?:surfweb:

What I don't get about AKV point being on the rent/trade board already is this, how can they offer to rent out something they can't guarantee? may 16th is going to be on crazy day for MS. It will be like winning the lottery. It seems many people have bought AKV points, and are just itching to make their 1st reservation. I know I'll be in line to book my January dates. It will be a crap shoot for EVERYONE.

I can see people "trying" to rent out the points, what I don't get are the people replying. They should do some homework, and realize how hard it will be for the person to get a reservation.

does anyone know what the new restaurant at akv is supposed to be like? i do hope it will be as good as boma altho i know it will not be the same. :goodvibes

I'm hoping it is better than that... as good as Jiko's!

Sorry I haven't read through all the posts on this thread. DH wants to know whether the separate building will also have a counter service restaurant (like his beloved BC Marketplace)?

I do not see why people would rent out their first round of AKV points! I certainly would not give up my stay just to get a little extra money. :goodvibes:
