Today the new Troop that my son belongs to as well as other volunteers, placed American flags at the headstones of US Veterans at Resurrection Cemetery. This was in preparation of Wreaths Across America for our fallen heroes. Previously we never had the opportunity to do this at Resurrection as each cemetery is preassigned to various volunteers, groups and Troops.
This is where my father-in-law was buried, a man who served our country and his community. The same man who cut the cord when our son was born and happily told anyone who cared to listen. They were two peas in a pod; vacations, holidays, sleepovers, school plays and playdates. They were always together, always. One day Grandpa confided in me, he wasn’t afraid when cancer returned again, he wasn’t afraid to let go, he was afraid of being forgotten by his grandson. I assured him that would never happen, we wouldn’t allow it.
Resurrection Cemetery is massive and each participant was given a section to cover, they had to read every headstone and place a flag next to a Veterans resting place. Requests were not given but somehow our son was given the section where Grandpa rests. The next step will be laying the wreaths.
