Does the ADR check-in still offer the option to add a person?

I know it existed once, but I can't remember if it was there on our last trip.

We've run into an issue where a restaurant has a plethora of time options open for 4 but nothing for 5.
Our 5th is a 3 year old.

I have dining alerts set in the hopes of just getting an ADR for 5.

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to hold on to the ADR for 4, or should I let it go

Let it go. If you have 5 they will not be able to seat you with a reservation for 4, even with a 3 year old, it's a fire code thing. Try looking for reservations for 6. You can book higher and have no shows.

I've had good luck adding a person day-of...happened for us at Le Cellier. Original reservation was for 6, and about 90 minutes before, while on the monorail headed to Epcot, I was on the phone with Disney Dining and they added the seventh. By the time we got to Le Cellier, the reservation was updated to seven.

This is sometimes possible at restaurants that have tables which can easily seat more than 4...harder if they have to move tables together. Where is your current reservation?

Try modifying for 6. The robot doesn't like odd numbers. (And in my experience some restaurants just stick the 5th at the end of a 4 top, so it's not really seating for 5)

I find it amusing that the “extra” is always a small child. Like the 3 year old suddenly decided to join the group of adults for dinner?
I'm not sure why it's amusing?
We aren't a group of adults, and it's not for dinner. It's 2 adults and 3 young kids, 1 of whom happens to be 3 and doesn't tend to sit much in their own seat to begin with.

We tried looking for even numbers, but all the higher table options appear to be booked. It's a lunch ADR for Wailulu, and there is every option under the sun available for parties of 4 or less. Since in the past we were able to add a person at check-in for similar locations like Kona Cafe, I was more curious if that option was still available day of in the app.

Because when these questions come up, it’s never an “extra” adult. It’s always the smallest child who is said to be the “extra”. Because you know, the CM could turn away an extra adult, but couldn’t turn away an extra child. As an example, your group could be seated as 1 adult & 3 children, with the extra adult eating elsewhere. But of course, a 3 year old extra diner couldn’t be turned away to fend for themselves. That’s how these threads always get posted.

Sure, but I don't want to turn up with an extra. Nor did I ever say I planned to.

Which is why I specifically asked if the option that in trips past had been widely available in the app to add an additional human at the point of online check-in for your adr was still available.

You could make an ADR for 4 in each adults name for the same time & modify down to 3 & 2. Then when you check in, say you’re together & ask to be seated together. You might have to wait a bit longer, depending on the restaurant & time. Worse case, you would have to eat as 1 adult with 1 child, 1 with the other 2. But you’d all be eating in the same place at the same time.

You don’t even have to modify down if you don’t want to. There’s no penalty for showing up with less people than your adr is for.

When checking in on the app only some restaurants and only sometimes, I recall some reports that it was getting to be less but don't recall when the discussion was. And sometimes you could modify- but only down. Let the ADR go, find one for 5-6 people instead or try a walk-up. Welcome to that Family of 5 Life lol.

Yeah there is certainly a "tax" for that third kid scenario lol

2 tables/adrs is a good idea though. I'll go that route!
