Updated Disney Gift Card Deals and More

I'm not usually a GC hacker but am trying to save a few dollars on an upcoming trip where I expect to spend $2k+ on dining, LL and merch.

Originally I was just going to purchase 2-3 $500 Disney GC at target and save 5% with my red card. But I'm remembering the Kroger fuel points option - they currently have 4x points on GC. I could spend $250X 6 for 6000 point and $1/gallon where my husband and I fill up together 6 times (we both fill up weekly). I think this would save about $35*6 = $210. I think this is about 14% savings. Did I go wrong anywhere?

I also have two chase cards - Disney and Southwest. They are both currently offering 10% cash back (up to $60). Any chance I can order these Disney gift cards via Instacart and use my Kroger card # to make everything I mentioned work? I've used instacart before and been an instacart shopper and the person ordering gets the points. Other forums say it's designed to give the fuel points but many have issues with it. If the fuel points didn't work I'd really lose out. What if I did $600 GC on each card in effort to get $60x2=$120 cash back between the two cards? Now I'm up to 22% off.

I know the answer is a big fat NO but I have to ask.

I don't live near Kroger, but almost all stores that sell Disney gift cards sell either fixed amount ones up to $500 or variable $25 - $500, so I don't think you can put $600 on a Disney gift card. Also, most stores that sell gift cards in store do not sell them via instacart - there are way too many ways the gift card can get lost or stolen from the store to your house. And finally, make sure your gas points are really going to save you as much as you think. Again, I don't know specifics, but do you really fill up 35 gallons a week on 2 cars?

Costco has announced that they will be installing scanners at the entrance to stores to stop people who don't have membership or people who are using a family members membership card.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts Costco gift cards (known as Costco Shop cards), because right now the policy is that if you have a Costco Shop card, you can shop at Costco without membership.

I never had a RMN account until the other day when I downloaded the app. However, payment options are paypal or venmo? I do not use either. Is it worth it for me, in all your wise opinions, to enter the 21st century and get either paypal or venmo? Is so which would you all say is more useful/cheapest/easiest/ etc…?
Yes, get yourself a PP or Venmo account. I’ve come across a couple class actions that have PayPal, Venmo, check, bank ACH options and I think PayPal/Venmo is safer than hoping a paper check you don’t even know is arriving comes 2 years later or giving a random 3rd party your bank account info.

I recommend Venmo if just focused on ease of use but they’re the same company and both pretty easy to use. PayPal would open up other ways to pay online if you don’t want to give a company your cc/debit you can store it in PayPal and if the company offers PayPal as payment you just login to PP and use it instead.

I don’t think it will impact. People without memberships can also get RX at Costco so they can’t stop everyone. Those with shop cards may be asked to verify the amount or something to prove they’re active shop cards.

The show ID is gonna be a mess and cause serious backups. Idk how long membership will put up with that last. Costco’s picture should be enough. Didn’t know you could get a Costco membership without having a photo taken.

ETA- read the whole article. Darn ad pop up I missed the detail only non-photo folks have to show ID!

I pointed out, I like cash. I do. It’s easy and can’t be hacked. When I got home from work yesterday I had a letter from Ticketmaster that they had a breach and my info was compromised. (I dont even remember the last time I used ticketmaster!) So yes I need to get Venmo or Paypal but I love cash!🥰 Cash never made me lose sleep-except maybe, not having any but that is a different problem😂

I feel like everyone is getting that letter! Like was a mailing list breached or something 😂 My parents even got it and they never buy tickets to anything besides Disney and Universal.

@mickeytopolino When buying gift cards online at Kroger, Chase does not track as Grocery because Kroger online is a third party site Blackhawk Network. I've posted warnings on Post #1 and Post #2

@Alli1988 you have the right idea. 4x fuel will yield a higher savings since you're filling up two vehicles to 35 gallons. However, I don't think 6,000 points is manageable unless you plan on transferring any remaining points to the following month. I would do as much gas points you would need for the month and use the Meijer offer.

@bbsearchlight is correct, instacart is not an option.

I truly hate the costco shopping experience bc of this attitude..... my local one already has people at the door checking, and people at the self check policing usage of said cards.... even adding an item to my sisters shopping order on the belt provokes personal questions.... They're not that unique or great, to me they are too similar to the other warehouse clubs who don't treat their customers to so much 'security'.

In the town that I live in, since our Costco has opened years ago, everyone is checked at the door for a membership. Everyone is checked leaving the store by people standing at the door.

When they finally added self checking registers -- they added empoyees to watch those lines (and membership cards) too.

I'm reading a lot of articles lately about people having feelings one way or the other about the ID issues, but I guess our Costco did it correctly from the beginning. I don't blink an eye when they check my membership or my receipts.

As a Costco customer and shareholder, I am glad they are implementing measures to enforce access to membership privileges. I don't see it as any different from other companies such as Netflix cracking down on passcode sharing. Membership fees account for the bulk of their overhead and profit since product margins are razor thin in order for them to offer low prices to customers. Opting for their executive membership gives you a 2% rebate which actually more than offsets the cost of membership if you purchase big ticket items there, such as gift cards, a set of tires, a grill, car rental and any travel booked through Costco.

Peeps, I'm not positive this offer for Star Market and Shaw's will be expiring today. It's possible but it's also possible the offer will be extended internally to mirror other Just For You stores. Check with your location next week. Note, the offer is not listed in the Preview Ads for next week.

I didn't get that letter, and I use ticketmaster fairly frequently!

Ooh, I hope this means they will have the fee-free Visas the following week. DH's next card up will be a CIC and I prefer the Visas to the MC.
