*Update*Senior Prom (!) questions!! pg 2

hi!

when I was a Jr i went with a Sr as "friends"

So when we got there we didn't do the Pictures done by the schools photographer in the little prommy scene and I SOOOOOOOOO wish I had!

so if you can, encourage them to take those and if they bok offer to pay for them.

Get the package with 2x everything or two seperate packages, otherwise your looking at trouble when it comes to splitting them up.

Definitely rent those tuxes this week. Here, anyway, there's a "late" charge if you rent them after a certain date and it's way earlier than you would expect.

My older son went to three proms with his "best friend." He always bought her flowers, but they split tickets, pictures, etc. Two of the three years they went to the movies in their formalwear before the prom -- one of those years they ate at Burger King

My sophomore got asked to the prom, too, but since he has a steady girlfriend, he declined. I'm sure I'll be dealing with this stuff next year, though.

Since she asked him and it is her prom I think she should pay for everything except for his tux. Since it is not his Sr Prom I wouldn't go all out. I think they will have a alot of fun. My DH and I both did not go to our proms. We don't regret it though! I am sure the kids will have a lot of fun!

How fun! DD asked a casual friend to her prom. They had a great time, because there was no romantic ties to worry about. We took them to dinner before, and I believe we chaufered them as well. He paid for his own tux and her flowers, and she bought the tickets. WE paid for dinner!

Just a side note on PROM! DH and I had our first date at prom when he was a senior and I was a junior. There was all kinds of angst over would he ask or wouldn't he! It was the first of many dates and many formals that we went to through our college years. We never did go to my prom, because he was in college and I had changed schools and was too far away for him to come during finals time. I might add that was 40 years ago!

Do they have an "after Prom" party at her school? If so maybe he can pay for those tickets since she's paying for the prom bid. Some of the schools here do that and it is a nice way to TRY to make sure the kids aren't getting into any kind of "trouble" afterwards. At the school where I teach there is no "after prom" and I hear so many stories about getting limos so they can drink themselves stupid.....my parents let me stay out all night after senior prom (at DH's school, not mine...that's right, my prom date is still with me 23 years later) BUT with all the stories I hear unless the kids go to "after prom" here in our own town, they will for sure have a curfew.

my brother is going to his senior prom this year ,,,and im going with him to pick out his tux this week...theres only a few tux places by me, so we go early(his prom is may 7) ..i went to my junior prom, but i agree with everryone else that said to get the professional photos done.and have a disposable camera!...i didnt go to my senior prom..just junior..but that was enough haha..tell him have fun!

Wow! Thanks everyone! So many great replies and, too many to quote but, we ran into DS's "friend" at the store tonight and, she got her dress, it's black with a pink sash or tie, or something. She said DS doesn't have to match anything. Good thing because, DS already said he wouldn't wear ANYTHING pink! We couldn't get to the tux rental places today and, he's gone with his dad for the weekend so, I hope we can get there sometime SOON, there's 3 places close by, thankfully!

DS seems to agree that we (I) should pay his share of the $100 ($50) and, that the camera and frame "sound nice".

Some possibly often-overlooked items.....dress socks to wear with tux....bought them today. DS thought he needed dress shoes (which he does but, not for this) so I bought him dress shoes but, I told him we'll rent shoes from the tux place.

Just had another thought (OUCH!), maybe I should post this on the teen board????

BIG (HUGE) afterthought ---------- Should I/he ask his dad to pay me for 1/2 of my costs????? Not important, really.

Here they make a whole weekend out of the prom...after the prom a lot of them either go to the city by limo and then to six flags the next day or the new thing is renting a house out east and a big group go out there for the weekend.
