*Update*Senior Prom (!) questions!! pg 2

Tonight, DS was asked to go to a Senior Prom by our neighbor (and DD's babysitter) and, he agreed! I'm only surprised because she's asked him before to go to dances and, he's said no. They are only friends.....trust me, this mother knows.

WHAT do I have to do? What does HE have to do?

According to DS, she's taking care of the flowers since her Uncle's a florist and she'll buy the prom tickets. He said they don't want a limo since you do that only when you're boyfriend/girlfriend. So, besides renting a tux for him , what do I/he need to do?

Should he offer to pay for 1/2 of everything, since they're only friends?

I just can't remember from the "good ole days" when I went, that was 24 years ago!

Thankful for any info! (pass the tissues please, this mom is feeling old!!!)

Since they are going as friends, I say split the cost of certain things like dinner (if they are going) maybe give some money toward the tickets and any other extras like after parties. Obviously the tux rental is on him. He should buy her a corsage though, I know the uncle does flowers but it is a nice sentiment, IMO. Make sure he asks what color her dress is closer to the date of the prom so he can get a matching color. I think that is it, hope they have fun!!!

Good question. I don't have any idea.

I'm pretty sure my dd is going dateless. I know she knows boys that would be more than happy to take her, but so far, she has no plans on any of them.

Hey I'm in the same boat over here. I girl asked my son to his Prom the other day.
Here is our list...

Tux (Mom is covering)
Flowers (Grandma offered this)
Tickets (My son paid for these)
Transportation (Parents are car pooling)
Dinner (A bunch of them are getting together and having a 'dinner party' The Moms are all cooking)

Did I forget anything??

There is a whole group of friends that are all going, so this should be a fun night for him. I am so excited he is going. A year ago he would have said never, no way is he going to the Prom.

I was thinking of going SOON to rent a tux. The prom is 5/8, a month away. And, I agree, I think I/he/we should pay for some of the evening. The tickets include dinner and, they're $50 EACH.

I don't want to sound sappy but, I've known this young lady for 10 years and, she's spent a lot of time in my house over the years AND, she watches my DD when the rest of us have to go out. It's her Senior Prom and, I think, important to a girl, whether she goes with a 'friend' or a boyfriend.

And Laurie, your DD's a smart cookie.

DS said he thinks one of her parents will drive, even tho they're also going in a group. This is not DS's prom tho and, it's not even his school.

And, like I said, DS has said no before so, I was also a little surprised. DS also said he has no plans on going to his OWN prom! LOL now

I definitely agree on reserving the tux soon, it would be terrible to go to all of the local shops to find them all rented since the prom and wedding season are soon to be in full swing. This is bringing back memories We also had dinner at our prom but us girls, being "girly" hardly touched anything on our plates lol. Our high school had an after party but we stopped and got pizza on our way because all of us were starving. And don't worry about sounding sappy, I totally agree on a prom being special to a girl. it always seemed like the guys went just to go but to the girls (me included) it remains a great memory to look back on. If the corsage is taken care of already, suggest that he bring her a small bouquet of flowers, just an added special touch that she will be sure to appreciate. Take lots of pics too! lol They will be annoyed by it, but it's a must!

Oooh, just had a thought (ouch), what about an engraved frame, with the date on it? Would that be too much boyfriend/girlfriend? She could put whatever pic she wanted in it after the prom of course.

As far as transporation goes, I hope you do exactly what my parents did:

They rented me a 360 Modena.

They also paid for:

Ate at the Reunion Tower in Downtown Dallas.
1 night stay at The Adolphus.
Payed for a huge boquet of flowers for my date(girlfriend at the time) and the Tickets for both of us($75 I think it was because we didn't do much fund raising.)

One of the best nights of my life and I will never forget it!

P.S. Make sure if your renting anything, to rent early! A lot of my friends weren't able to get a limo.


Edit: disposable cameras are a must!

My girl just paid for her dress , hair, makeup ect.

The only reason I went to my prom is because I figured it would be one less thing I would be telling my therapist in 10 years. And looking back on things 9 years later I'm so glad I went!!! I hope your son has a wonderful evening!

Hey Kim! This is uncharted territory for me as Tyler isn't quite old enough for prom, but I agree with Joan, a nice frame engraved with "Friends" and the date of the prom is a great idea. I also agree that even though the girls uncle is a florist a nice coursage or a bouquet of flowers for the house would be a nice touch.
