I thank you for your replies to my posting on the DIS regarding my elderly cat. Unfortunately things have deteriorated somewhat as follows:
Three weeks ago she went down with water troubles again, loose motions and sickness within a matter of hours, also diagnosed with mouth ulcers at vets. They did a feline aids test which proved negative thank god as we have three other cats and a kidney and heart blood test which were satisfactory for a cat of her age. She rallied with a course of antibiotics but 4 days after finishing them back to waterworks trouble, another course of antibiotics and some steroids seemed to do the trick, she finished them on Monday and blow me down back to square one yesterday, friday. Took her back again to vets and he seems to think without an xray that something is going on in her bladder, either tumor or polyps but subjecting her to an xray to find out would be dodgy and they wouldnt be able to do anything if they found something. Due to her getting extremely stressed taking tablets they have given her a couple of injections with another on monday. The upshot being that if this fails because of her age and increasing frequency of the attacks he thinks we should consider letting her go in a dignified manner. I am of course extremely upset by all this but cannot let her suffer anymore, she has been a good and faithful companion for 16 years so we will have to see what the next week brings. thanks for listening. alison
