Is there an internet hoax floating around regarding casting for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince?

Thanks.

(snopes listed nothing....any other links would be appreciated for checking this out. TIA)

Updated post 24....page 2.

Thanks for the helpful information everyone!

They haven't even finished casting Order of the Phoenix, so I'm going to say no.

Try www.the-leaky-cauldron.org or www.mugglenet.com

They are my favorite HP sites, and usually up to date on the latest news (and fake news).

Edited to say: whoops - misread the post. I don't think they are casting HBP, but do not know if there are any rumors about it on the internet.

Don't know my harry potter--so thanks for that tip. The questionable e-mail reported a 2007 theatrical release for HP and the HBP.

I'll check the links.
Thanks.

I'm looking at the sites---I need the readers digest which will help solve this very strange e-mail mystery....

Is a movie planned for each book?

They have completed only 3 movies, right?

When is #4 scheduled for (actually asked that in previous post...OOPS)?

So there is probably a movie 5...before they get to movie 6 which is HBP?

Sorry if I've slaughtered the whole thing.

Thanks!

I believe that #4 is scheduled for release in November of this year.

Goblet of Fire will be released on Nov. 18. Principal photography for Order of the Phoenix will begin in January of 2006.

If that takes a year to film, as previous ones have, it would be out in 2007 - with HBP starting filming after that. But there are no firm dates.

Warner Bros has probably optioned all the films.

If they are smart, they will wait until book 7 comes out before filming Half Blood Prince. They had to fix a part in Goblet of Fire because of info in HBP!

This makes no sense...the e-mail I mean. I had a couple of red flags...and after rereading the e-maiil...it really makes no sense what these people are looking for...I just can't tell.

I think my mom just got excited at the prospect as it came from a supposedly reputable source who does forward casting calls (and has done legitimate ones in the past). But the text of this one is just weird..and off.

And don't they cast just British born actors/actresses in the HP movies?

Okay--I give up...any fans know what this stuff means:

You have been selected to apply and participate as an "Act" in the
> induction, casting and making of
>
> "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" which will be In Theaters by
> July 2007.
>
> This selection is organized by writer J.K Rowling in the bid to create
> original characters for the
>
> casts.

I just don't get it.

More info on this please? I don't understand.

mcnuss -

In the graveyard scene in the GoF film, the name and birth date for Voldemort's father were incorrect. An Entertainment Weekly photo spread about the movie showed the headstone reading "Tom Marvolo Riddle" with birth & death dates. In Half-Blood Prince, we learn that "Marvolo" is Voldemort's maternal grandfather's name. The dates on the headstone were always wrong - I forget what they used to be, but it would have made Tom Riddle ten or so when Voldemort was born.

Anyway - the point is, Warner Bros is going back and digitally fixing the headstone, thanks to the hue and cry of many Potter fans.

Lisa Loves Pooh - I have no idea what that email means! But you are right - the Potter films cast only British actors. Famous American actors have begged for even a walk-on, to no avail.

Either way - no film dates are scheduled, so whatever the email is soliciting, it's got nothing to do with the movies. Also - JK Rowling doesn't participate in the casting of the films - she did request Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid but that was it.

Okay, I've now revealed my obsession with Harry Potter. I could tell you that I only know this stuff because of my daughter, but the truth is - it's me! I'm the Harry Potterphile! I feel ashamed, yet cleansed by this revelation.

We've got the bug here, too, and I've got it worse than DD11. It's a big club so hold your head high!

I've seen on of the past Harry Potter casting notices on the casting services to which I subscribe. I've seen nothing beyond Goblet Of Fire.

thank you so much--your obsession has been very helpful!

The weird parts to me were requesting American "extras" and then offering to fly them out (I'm sure a catch about at their expense..would come later).

Mystery solved--and yes...I guess this would be a "h-o-a-x" or at least a fraudulent attempt to capitalize on the HP industry at the expense of people unfamiliar with the industry or the Harry Poter films.

I PM'd you--since you've seen a casting notice, you are one up on me...to see how "fake" ... or possibly (but not likely ;) ) legit this is.

Thanks!

As someone said earlier, they only cast Brits in HP and there wouldn't be a calling for American extras as the books have nothing to do with America or have any American characters.

PM'd feralpeg the e-mail...since her daughter is an actress with an agent..to see what she thought of it. THANKS!!

As I suspected..cannot possibly be anything genuine....she thinks it sounds like my mom won a contest..only she didn't enter one.

Hopefully my mom can spread the word to her organization that sent this that it is not a legit e-mail in terms of a true casting call.

I ran it past some people who are very experienced in the acting world. They said it looked very fishy to them. One person said that they think it is a variation on the Nigerian scam. Once you send your information, they will come back and ask for a social security number for verification purposes. IMHO, I'd just delete it. As I said before, I've never heard of a casting process working this way. I did see casting notices for the prior HP films. They were through major casting agents and although Americans could submit, the chances of getting a role were very slim. Why pay for travel from the US when there is plenty of British talent available. It is sad there are so many people out there ready to take advantage.
