Underwater Digital Camera Info - Different Models (merged threads)

Thanks for all the info. Our regular digital is fairly new and we are happy with it. I am just looking for something to supplement. The vivitar although not as high quality looks rugged. I think it would be a great little camera for the kids to have on the ship. They can take their own memory pictures. My 6 year old LOVES taking pics and I won't be nervous it she drops the cheaper camera.

The Vivatar is a good camera, and you can order it online from Target. Our isn't exactly the most beautiful camera--it's an ugly yellow color and is rugged--but it takes good pictures. We had been buying the disposable underwater digital cameras and decided before we went to Hawaii last March to give the Vivatar a try. It's worth the money in my opinion. It sounds as if maybe it's not quite as nice as the Olympus, but if you're not looking to spend as much money, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

BTW--it comes with a memory card--bonus!

I cannot find this post but I remember looking at someones photos from snorkeling. They said they took their pics with a camera that could go under water up to 30 ft I believe. It took beautiful photos and I cannot remember the brand or model. I believe it was also under $200! Anyone out there seen this thread and have that info for me?

Much thanks!

I remember looking at those pics too - there was a great pic of a starfish, really colourful. I bookmarked the camera details for future use! http://stuff.tv/Review/Vivitar-ViviCam-6200W/ :)

We have the Pentax underwater one. We have been using it throughout the summer in the pool and sofar so good.

Has anyone tried the Vivitar ViviCam VC-5188? It comes with a waterproof case and is less then $60 for a 5MP. I was thinking of the 6200W when I stumbled upon this. It is basically the cost of 3 disposables and not much more than those bags I looked at earlier. Not many reviews, but I already have a nice Canon and just wanted something for Atlantis and CC.

OK....got the Olympus 850 SW for our anniversary and I am loving it so far. Took it into the pool the other day (brrrrrrr) and it worked great. Can't wait to take it on our cruise in 2 weeks.

I might just leave my big Sony cybershot 12X zoom camera at home and take this little one. Love the "scene" feature. When I was at a friends pool the other day I purposely "accidently" dropped it in the pool just to hear the gasps of horror!!! Ha Ha!!!

I just bought this camera for my son for his 7th birthday on October 6th. I figured he would get a lot of use out of it with WDW and the Cruise a few days after his birthday. It cost me $55.00 from Wal-Mart and I don't have to worry about being out a ton of money if he drops it. I think for his first camera it looks like a pretty great deal!

I bought the Olympus 1030SW and LOVE IT!! Definitely a good spend, we have a Canon SLR but didn't want to be bringing that to the beach and risk it getting ruined.

We got ours from Amazon.com which had a great price $319.99 (and when I got it in July they were still doing price matches so that was really nice).

I was looking at the 1030 but I couldn't justify the higher price to myself.....but it did look tempting!!! I think for my purposes the 850 should be fine!!! Glad you like it!!

my husband just bought the underwater camcorder/camera combo at costo for under $250. Haven't used it yet but the reviews online seemed good. I'll let you know how it works after our cruise!!!

I just got one for my wife for our anniversary. Funny, I also have a Canon DSLR and wanted a point & shoot for the water and the beach.

She will love it...it is great...just make sure you change the shutter speed so you get the pictures you want.

Another thing I love about this camera?!? The looks on people's faces when you jump in the pool with it!!!! :lmao:

We have the Olympus 770 and love it...I use it more often than the cannon we have. I have some underwater pics in the link below. Feel free to take a look. The only problem I have had we had to have the seals replaced last yr. it had started leaking on the last Disney cruise. Although they say to do this once a yr. The camera was only about 3 months old when this happened. It was covered under warranty at no cost other than mailing it to Olympus. I had it back inless than 2 weeks. Very quick turn around time. But..I had taken it in the hot tub, Im not sure if this had anything to do with it or not. But I was careful NOT to do that this yr.I have had it in the water since, Snorkeling, pool, etc. and not had any problems with it at all.

The Olympus sw850 looks like it's gone down in price- I just did a google search and some colors are $169.99!!! Hey- I like orange!!! I think I'm goin' for it!:thumbsup2

I just wanted to post that the $169 offer is by a company with a very bad reputation,(I investigated a bit before I placed my order) so if you see it online, buyer beware! Looks like I'll have to pay more somewhere else, but you've all convinced me the camera will be worth it!! :goodvibes

I can confirm that other company is a ripoff!!! I actually placed an order for the Orange camera from that company offering it for $169 and they jerked me around for two weeks (paid for 3 day shipping and the camera never showed)...finally they said it was out of stock . After reading all the horrible reviews of this company it seems like it is a common practice of theirs. I wound up cancelling the order and ordered from Amazon.
