Underwater Digital Camera Info - Different Models (merged threads)

I can confirm that other company is a ripoff!!! I actually placed an order for the Orange camera from that company offering it for $169 and they jerked me around for two weeks (paid for 3 day shipping and the camera never showed)...finally they said it was out of stock . After reading all the horrible reviews of this company it seems like it is a common practice of theirs. I wound up cancelling the order and ordered from Amazon.

There are refurbed ones on ebay and I have been watching, they are going for anywhere between $154 and $170.

This was taken with the Vivicam. It also took good pictures out of the water. We were really happy with it. We also used the autocorrect on our photo software to remove alot of the blue cast you get from the water.

Great pic.

Another happy Olympus Stylus underwater owner here! It takes brilliant underwater pictures, and even more so, movies! :)

Here's a sample picture, I've only resized it, no other retouching. Taken at the artificial reef out in Serenity Bay.

Mark....do you remember if you had the camera on the Auto setting or the underwater "scene" setting. I was trying to figure out if it really made a difference with the scene options vs. auto setting.

I am trying to convince myself I don't need this camera. This thread is not helping. :rotfl2:

Hi, we have an Olympus 770SW and love it. The new model is 1030SW. I think they run around 300.00. DD has it on the PC cruise right now and fell in love with it. Now she wants one. We ALL have taken it snorkeling with great results.

I have both these cameras and love them. Have dropped both several times with no worries. I paid around $370. or $380. for the 1030SW right after it came out.

The underwater pics are very nice. I do put it in the underwater mode to make sure they come out.

I just purchased an underwater digital camera from Avon. I know you get what you pay for but I do not use an underwater camera much and I have a good regular camera so didnt want to spend the money( when I can spend it elsewhere:goodvibes ) I have not used it yet but we cruise on Oct 16 so I can let you know after that. It was 30.00 comes with software and holds 152 pictures. I figured I usually buy a couple of disposable ones and this is the same price so why not try it. Wish me luck.

You are SOOOOO right!!

As I will be using our brand new 1030SW on the cruise next week, I promise to publish some pictures and try to make it harder on you :lmao:

The regular undewater setting, if I leave it on auto it doesn't get the exposure right. And underwater macro is useless unless you're nose-to-nose with the fish which don't exactly happen often. :) The *only* thing I sometimes find hard is seeing the viewfinder easily, but the optional dive housing has this nice built-in shade over it which helps.

Mark- which olympus do you have?

I would try it in the bathtub or sink first to make sure it doesn't leak and the pics are ok. Don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't work correctly.

Ok- thanks everyone- just ordered the yellow 850sw on Amazon- new price of $217 looked too good to pass up!! I also got the floating orange wristband for $15, and there was free shipping!:cool1:

Thanks so much for letting me know that the floating wristband was on free shipping...I looked for it before and it always was from other sellers so I would have to pay for shipping. I just ordered one...now I need to find a camera case...preferably in pink...my DH will love that!!

Go to Broadwayphoto.com they have the Olympus 1030SW for $271. I loved mine! Just used it on the member cruise! It works perfect!!!

I would strongly recommend NOT ordering from these people...check the reviews on resellerratings.com and you'll see what I mean. I read just the first page of reviews and all the customers left a "very dissatisfied" rating.

I would suggest one of the well known online retailers which are often recommended on the photography board such as bhphotovideo, beachcamera, buydig, adorama and amazon (I'm probably missing one or two others). I've purchased cameras and equipment from all of these retailers and have never had a problem with any of them.

The 720SW, I believe the 1030 is its current model cousin. :)

And, by the way the place I have never had any kind of issue ordering from is B&H Photo Video. However, you should be able to find the 1030SW at a lot of local electronics retailers now.
