Two vehicles on one site

Back in 2009, I stayed at Fort Wilderness at the 2000 loop (Spanish Moss Lane) and one of the cast members said that we could park two vehicles at our campsite as long as both of them were on the concrete pad. We had an extra person using a tent at the site, so we weren’t able to fit. This October, we’re planning to camp at one of the full sites (1600/1700/1800). I wanted to see if anyone knew if this policy was still in place – or it is strictly one vehicle per site? If two vehicles are allowed, does anyone know the length of the concrete pads at the full sites? Thanks for your help!

Greg,

Luckycharm is correct but the policy is often abused and Fort CMs are not famous for enforcing rules. The Full sites driveways are 12 feet wide (up near the sand pad; down by the road they flare out and widen naturally). Since they are usually angled, length varies but the long side of the drive is usually 35 feet.

It would be best to keep it on the concrete please because running tires off the drive wears out the grass and with the summer rains it can turn into mud. If the folks on the site before you dropped tires off the edge and got it all muddy, you'll have a mess when you check in. So that's why two are sometimes permitted if they are both on the concrete.

You can always leave a car up at the Outpost (check-in lot) if it has a Fort parking pass or put two cars on your drive front-to-back if your tent/camper is pushed as far back onto the pad as much as possible and if there is room.

We usually leave our SIL car at the overflow lot, but last year the CM told us we could leave the 2nd car on our site as long as it wasn't on the grass.

This is one of those things that have gotten way out of hand at the Fort. I agree with bama ed, if the tires on on the concrete you should be good to go. I was at the Fort over the 4th and I saw many sites with 4 + vehicles on them:mad:

Nothing personal about anyone here but I hate when people turn the fort or any other campground into a parking lot. Especially when there's parking available for the other vehicles.

I was just down at the Fort a few weeks ago and the folks at check-in told me it was absolutely no problem to put 2 vehicles on our site as long as they were both on the pad. That is what we did, 2 cars and one golf cart on our site and no one ever said a word.

I also saw some folks camping with a tent on the pad, a popup at the back of the drive, an RV in front of it and 2 cars. I was amazed that was allowed.
