Tucking in your shirt - Is it a sin?

I guess I'm a total fashion geezer at 40, but I think in general it looks more sloppy to not tuck in your shirt. Especially knits. Plus because of my body shape (fairly long and thin everywhere except for my tummy), it makes my lumps show up a LOT more if I don't tuck in the shirt. I guess that's the "spare tire" that people talk about ?? It sure is a lot more obvious if I don't have my shirt tucked in.

I'm the same age as you and I agree. Button down shirts (Oxfords) look very sloppy when not tucked in as do some of the other types of shirts.

T-shirts I always wear tucked in. They're regular shirts (not the type that's "in style" right now - although I do like those) and make me look heavier when it's sitting outside my jeans or shorts. Tucked inside, it makes me look thinner.

Why care if they are?

But then, I prefer "mom jeans," pantyhose, slips under dresses, non-thong underwear, one-piece swimsuits, and shirts - but not sweaters or sweatshirts - tucked in.;)

:thumbsup2 You described my to a "T" (no pun intended). Although I do like the skinny jeans and have found that the waist do come in different lengths so I don't have to go too low on them (thankfully) even though they don't go to my natural waist.

I'm 30 and at the office we're allowed to wear jeans and a polo on Friday but it must be tucked in. So rather than enjoy a nice casual day on Friday I avoid having to wear a tucked in polo w/ jeans by wearing my normal business attire. My DW thinks I'm nuts to give up casual Fridays, I just refuse to wear a polo tucked into jeans even for work purposes.

Outside of work I am always wearing my Metal t-shirts which are NEVER to be tucked in!!! I've seen guys over 40 with tucked t-shirts of all kinds into their Jorts which is 1 million different kinds of wrong!!! No offense intended to any PP's just saying if you're a guy a) don't wear Jorts and b) if you decide to don't tuck the T-shirt into your jorts.....

I guess like other PP's have said it all depends on personal preference, I just prefer not to look like a dork :goodvibes

DD's DH has a casual polo type shirt that he has to wear to work (very small company logo on it) and he has to wear it tucked in - regardless of how he feels about it - even though he's allowed to wear jeans in his office..

Coming from a chunky girl, a tucked in shirt NEVER ever makes a heavy person look thinner. Evvvvverrrrrrr. Something slightly fitted rather than a giant square tent shaped t-shirt yes, this make you look thinner because it disguises while still giving you a waist. Tucked in disguises nothing, in fact it just puts it all out there for everyone to see. No secrets with a tucked shirt.

*This is my opinion. People can disagree all they want but my opinion will never change. Never ever ever have I ever seen a non-thin person look skinnier or better in a tucked shirt*

My 15 year old DD informed me a couple of weeks ago that girls tucking in their shirts is coming back in style. She was trying on clothes in a dressing room at the mall and came out with the shirt tucked in the shorts. I said, "Really? the tuck is back?" She said "Yep!" (for some styles). This -- after her laughing at the tucked-in clothing styles from old 1980s and early 90s sitcoms on TV like "Full House."

I'm 18 and I always tuck my shirt in. The only time I don't is when I'm wearing a tshirt, because I wear tshirts with my running shorts and it would look rather odd :rotfl:

I never tuck becuase I fall into the category of "chunky girl who ALWAYS looks awful with shirt tucked in". In fact , ID ont know many women who tuck anything in. I would never dream of tucking in a tshirt. Most men in my aquaintance who tuck anything but a dress shirt with dress slacks or a suit also qualify for AARP.

I never tuck any shirts in....I prefer a fitted(not tight) t-shirt, untucked. My problem area is my stomach and I really don't like showing it off by tucking.

I do have to say that I have never heard of jorts before this thread:lmao: Dh wears jean shorts and I had no idea they were wrong:laughing: although his sister made a comment a couple weeks ago about how he always wears jean shorts so he did go out and buy 2 pairs of cargo shorts which he wears regularly now...I hope those are ok;)

Depends on the bottoms. If it's a pencil skirt or an A-line skirt, tuck in the shirt to enhance the waist, no matter how long or short the skirt is. Your run of the mill denim miniskirt? Don't tuck. Jeans? It really depends. If the jeans are dressier, or of a thinner fabric, then tucking might be acceptable depending on the top. Lighter wash jeans are always considered too casual to have a shirt tucked in.

As far as men go...my dbf always tucks in his polos for work with a belt (he wears khaki shorts) but doesn't tuck in other shirts. I don't have an issue with it either way.
