I guess I'm a total fashion geezer at 40, but I think in general it looks more sloppy to not tuck in your shirt. Especially knits. Plus because of my body shape (fairly long and thin everywhere except for my tummy), it makes my lumps show up a LOT more if I don't tuck in the shirt. I guess that's the "spare tire" that people talk about?? It sure is a lot more obvious if I don't have my shirt tucked in.
I'm the same age as you and I agree. Button down shirts (Oxfords) look very sloppy when not tucked in as do some of the other types of shirts.
T-shirts I always wear tucked in. They're regular shirts (not the type that's "in style" right now - although I do like those) and make me look heavier when it's sitting outside my jeans or shorts. Tucked inside, it makes me look thinner.
