Could I please ask what you were quoted for complete medical and trip cancellation/interuption insurance? Our quote for $1500 worth of insurance for under age or 59 seems high.

Thanks a million

I bought CAA trip insurance for medical. The cost was $55 for my entire family. My daughter has a pre-existing heart condition and she was still covered. Because I opted to book everything separately myself, I didn't get cancellation insurance however I think booking with VISA gave us some cancellation insurance. S

I can check our travel insurance provider for you.

Rroo, what are your dates of travel and how many people are you? This will change cost of travel insurance.

$110 with Meloche Monnex covers our family of 4 for medical and trip cancellation for an entire year and all trips shorter than 60 days (oldest member of family is 38)

Thanks so much! There are 2 of us going from May 20-27.

Thanks again!

Wow that is high our coverage for medical etc was 80.00 for the year through Meloche Monnex and that is for a family of 5.

8 day coverage, 2 people, covering $1500, both under the age of 59:

Deluxe package is $179.28 with tax
Non-medical is $142.56 with tax
Medical only is $52.00

...that's with RBC insurance.

IMHO - if this is for a Disney vacation - I wouldn't cover the entire cost of the trip, as the most Disney will charge you upon cancellation is $200.

Thanks so much for the info!
Is there any difference in getting the RBC Insurance directly through the bank as opposed to through a travel agent?

I am purchasing travel/health insurance through CAA. I was quoted for a family of 4 for 7 days just under $36!! I even asked the girl to double check because I thought the price was awesome. Even covers up to 5 million dollars!
I'm not a CAA member so that wasn't even a member price!

Nope, not at all. The travel agent acts on behalf of RBC and therefore coverage and prices are identical. TA's are paid a commission from RBC, just like they are paid from Disney, so no additional cost to you. :)

Of course my vote would be to go through your travel agent, only because chances are your local TA needs the business FAR more than RBC does. :goodvibes

Last year we received a quote from a TA for RBC insurance for $221.00 we called RBC Insurance direct and paid $126. This is for an annual plan for all trips under 15 days. We can add extra days if needed. Unfortunately, for us we needed the insurance. DD came down with a Norwalk virus and ended up in the hospital in Celebration. RBC was amazing throughout and we never had to pay a cent. We did see a copy of the bill. It was for $2556. Thank God we had bought the insurance. DH was 55 at the time and they are one of the few companies that don't request a detailed medical form until age 60.
Check directly witht the company.

Sounds like your TA put his/her own mark up on your travel insurance. Or it could be as simple as 'human error' on the TA's part when putting in the information for the coverage. A little bit over the amount you are insuring and the quotation jumps a LOT.

But it is indeed a GREAT thing that you had the insurance. WOW!

President's Choice Financial gave me a quote for $200 and change for 2 adults (aged 0-59), insuring for $2000 each, for 10 days, both medical and trip cancellation/interruption. You can get your own quote online at www.pcfinancial.ca.

I wanted to investigate this a bit further... I'm typically a big fan of President's Choice insurance, but their travel insurance quote is indeed rather pricey compared to what RBC Insurance is giving me ($200.88 vs $140.98, both comprehensive insurance). Can anyone figure why President's Choice travel insurance would cost so much more? I'm accustomed to their other insurance costs being very competative.
