Trip #8; But Was It Great? A WDW MAYcation with a side of LegoLand & Celebration, FL!

Good Luck!!! I hope it dies down before it hits you! Where do you live?

Thanks! :goodvibes I live about an hour northwest of New Orleans. Since we're not right on the coast, we don't have to worry about the storm surge or flooding. And the storms aways lose strength before they get to use. The last hurricane we had was Gustav in 2008, which wasn't a terribly strong hurricane and didn't make headlines like other big ones. The thing with Gustav was that we lost literally thousands of trees in our city, and so many homes were destroyed or damaged from trees falling on them. And the downed trees also caused power to be down everywhere. We were without power for 10 days, and we were some of the lucky ones! Others went several weeks without it. Both of my children now live and work in New Orleans, so I am very concerned about them - mainly getting out if it comes to evacuation. Before Katrina, a drive that normally took an hour took about 8-10 hours, with people trying to get out of the city. This won't be anything near as strong as Katrina, but I still worry as a Mom naturally does!

Teri--- praying for you guys to be safe thru it!! Hope your kids can all get out and get home if the need arises. Glad you have your tarps at the ready!:thumbsup2

I know all too well about Hurricanes growing up in Charleston. ugh. What a mess.

One hurricane we evacuated to Asheville when Drew was a baby (after Hurricane Hugo that really tore CHS up)-- and when they said it was safe to come back home, we sat in traffic on the interstate for-ev-er. And Mark got so mad that he CALLED THE GOVERNORS OFFICE from the highway. It was hysterical.
It went like this:

Ring, ring.
Hello, Governor's Office.

Mark- I need to talk to the Governor.

Office person-- hold Please

Mark says "they're getting him."

Next person--
Hello, Governor's office.

Mark-- Governor please.

Office person-=== Hold please.

Mark says to me "He must be in the restroom"

Next person---
Hello, Governor's Office.

Mark--
Please put the Governor on.

Office person--
Hold please.

Mark says to me --- "I think they really are getting him."

At that point I am DYING laughing. We're sitting on the interstate with two kids sweating in the back seat in a virtual parking lot.

So the next office person comes on and says---
Hello, Governor's office. You say you need the Governor??

Mark says Yes, we are sitting on the interstate not moving trying to get to Charleston. Please tell the Governor to open up all lanes of traffic going BACK into the city. We could all get back home faster that way.

Office person--- Hold please.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

They come back and say Sir, the Governor says he is doing just that, to hang on and you'll soon be able to head South on the Northbound lanes.

Mark says thanks and hangs up.

Sure enough, 15 minutes later, policemen came by going South on the Northbound lane telling people to cross the middle and follow them.

Mark zooms across and gets right behind the lead policeman and we went about 95 mph all the way into CHS.:rotfl2:

Moral of the story---- call the Governor if you're miserable.:dance3:

I think saying goodbye to the MK is the worst. It's the hardest park for me to leave. :( It's just so magical. But being there when it's crowded isn't that much fun.

The step sisters are hilarious! We get to eat with them at 1900 PF and I am really looking forward to it. We are celebrating Morghan's 13th bday so I hope they give her a hard time. ;) She'd get a kick out of that!

Your food looks yummy! That toppings bar is great! :thumbsup2 And then a Dole Whip for dessert?! Lucky! :)

All that said, I need your expert advice again Shelly. I trust your judgement and am completely stumped on what to do here. Here's the situation:
I am struggling with putting together our firm itinerary for October. (this trip is just myself and Morghan, age 13.) Ok, here's the dilemma. We want to do all four parks, in three days. Here is what I have so far:

Tuesday, Oct 15th-
MK

Wednesday, Oct 16th-
HS/AK split

Thursday, Oct 17th-
Epcot

My four questions are:

1. Would you be comfortable with only one day in MK on Tuesday? It closes at 7pm due to the MNSSHP. I just feel this park requires more than a day.

2. We could do the party that evening or we could do an Epcot half day on Thursday and do the MNSSHP that evening instead. Which would you choose? We are going home on Friday morning so maybe ending the trip with the party on Thursday night is a better idea though we'd have to cut our Epcot time short.

3. I am also not thrilled with the price of the MNSSHP though I have heard it was worth it. For such a short trip, would you spring for the extra ticket cost? I am already paying rack rate for everything.

4. Should I just scrap the entire party idea?

See why I am confused. It's coming so fast and today I paid off the entire trip! Now comes panic time.

Well a big THANK YOU for the update!:goodvibes

Even though I did get a little misty eyed at the thought of you having to say goodbye to Main Street at the end of it. It's always so sad to me to have that one last look over your shoulder at the castle. Usually minus Big Blue of course.;)

Glad you enjoyed the update! :goodvibes

Thank goodness that monstrosity won't be there when we go in Dec.

It better not be there!! :headache:

Anywho....
yikes, the lines and waits were horrific! I bet it's b/c all the locals were heading out for the hot weather. ugh. Didn't they know they should've stayed home??

After about 10am the crowds were just awful. :sad2:

I am doing MK our arrival night and I have told the kids to not even ask if they can ride anything--- I know it will be miserable with people everywhere. Parade and Fireworks, that's what we're after! ::yes:: (And maybe a glimpse of some characters........... from behind a trashcan or two.) :smokin:

heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.:rolleyes1

You do that....And shoot me a few pics would ya?!! :rotfl:

Okay back on topic---
Pecos Bills! I haven't eaten there since discovering CHH. I always thought it was good, though! Your DH's burger looked really good.
Ohhh, and the corndog nuggets! I just told Drew all about them this morning as he was having his coffee and he was practically drooling into his cup!:lmao: He said he's getting some for sure this year.

Your kids would love Casey's!!::yes:: You and Mark, probably not so much.

Cute what the step sister said about DS13. Did he laugh???
Love that pic of DS10 holding the shot gun pointed at his brother. That is hysterical. Tell him I said he'd make a mean cowboy.:goodvibes
His nick name could be Dead Eye......:rotfl2:

The kids think those step-sisters are hilarious!! Remember when we ate dinner at 1900 PF? They had a blast. :lmao:

Well I am sad that your MK part of your trip has come to an end. But on with the Dole Whip!!:worship:

Thanks for the update!

It is sad that the MK part is over. Actually all of the parks are over! :faint:
But yes, still Dole Whips to come. :thumbsup2

DANG!! I hate the last MK day!!! It's the worst!!!!! I didn't ever think about doing our airline stuff at Guest services!! What a treat!!! I love hanging around and seeing what goes on in there,..but I never have a real need....that would be a GREAT job to have! They are so nice and efficient,.the only couple of times we have went there were for random questions and once for a lost item...they get you in & out of there lickety split!!!
I am getting so pumped up for my Nov trip!!!!!!! These pics are making me hyper!!

Yep, we know just where to go to get boarding passes printed out at MK and Epcot. We are always at one of those 2 parks on our last full day! The CM's are super great at both locations. Always get us printed out and ready to go.

Your trip is right around the corner!! :cool1:

Yum Pecos Bills is on my list for October!

I love the interaction you had with the characters, the step sisters are hilarious!

Last day at MK is always sad for me too :(

At least you don't have long to wait to get though those turnstiles again!! Woohoo!!

I hope you like Pecos!! :goodvibes

Those step-sisters are always so dang funny. Always right in character. :thumbsup2

The last day in MK is sad enough and then with all those people there making it even worse. :scared1: But yes, it won't be long til I get to go back. :goodvibes

We've never eaten at Pecos Bills - we always end up at CHH too! I'm going to have to make Pecos a must-try this trip!

We are not big seafood eaters, so we've never been to CHH. I would be willing to give it a try though. I'm sure DH would like it!

I've never noticed that problem at Pecos Bill's, but I don't know that I've paid close attention either. I like that they have the consoles where you can place your own order, instead of having to wait in line just to tell someone what you want. I suppose that may cause hold ups though, because they don't have cashiers they can have help put food out if necessary. I suppose they may also have a problem of people ordering things they don't want, and having to change things. We've ended up at Pecos on our last three trips, because I haven't convinced myself to try CHH yet (not a big fish eater) and the lines always look shorter there than at the Village Haus. The other options are usually nowhere near where we are.

I've never noticed consoles to place your own order at Pecos. There have always been CM's when we've been there. They take your order fast enough, it just seems to take forever to make it! :upsidedow

:love:::yes::Thank you for your wonderful trip report and all the beautiful pictures. My husband and I also go to disney many times. Even thou he is 78 and I am 75 we feel like kids everytime we go.
I so enjoyed reading all your descriptions and comment I feel as though we are friends.
You have a wonderful family. I wish you many more years of enjoyment at Disney.

Aw thank you so much for all your kind words. :goodvibes That is so sweet of you to say. I really appreciate it. That is so great that you and your DH still go to WDW. I hope DH and I will continue to go after the kids are grown up. ::yes::

Last day at MK
To bad you weren't able to stay longer. It is always so hard for me to leave.
We like Pecos Bill's too. The great thing about that place is it's so huge inside.
The fixins bar is really good.
I know where you got your Dole Whip!!!

Yeah, we really hadn't planned on leaving MK that early. :( But at least we had somewhere else to go for a Dole Whip! :cool1:

I always hate the last day! And having it be busy definitely doesn't help! It's always hard saying goodbye to MK. It looks like it was pretty busy...I can't believe that Splash Mountain time going up to 90 minutes right in front of you!

So, believe it or not, December trip is on, and airfare is booked!:scared1: Everything is worked out with the nieces and they are coming! My girls are really excited. We will be staying theme park view at the Poly (no CL). CL would have cost us a small fortune!:rotfl: Theme park view was already pushing it, especially since we need two rooms. I'm excited, but slightly frightened as I know how busy it will be!:rotfl: We will just take everything in stride.

How was your weekend?! We (me, DH, DD21, my brother, and sister-in-law) went to the Tim McGraw/Kenny Chesney concert last night- absolutely amazing!

Yeah we were quickly wishing we had chosen another park for that day! :faint: I couldn't believe my eyes when the wait time changed from 25 to 90 minutes...I felt so bad for the poor people that had just gotten in line thinking it was going to be 25 minutes. :sad2:

WOW!! So happy for you that your Christmas vacation is back on and all is well with the family. :cool1: Congrats on the Poly TPV!! :goodvibes

Sounds like you had a nice weekend. :) I bet that was a good concert!!

My weekend --

Well it was CRAZY!! Let's see....Jack (the dog) had a little 'procedure' done last Monday. This Saturday we noticed the site surrounding the stitches was red and a little swollen. By Sunday morning we knew he had an infection. And we were off to the doggy ER. He's doing okay now, but he sure will be glad to get his stitches out this Thursday!!

And with all that, we were supposed to go to Erie Sunday morning for the day. Had tickets to Waldameer. http://www.waldameer.com/ Ended up still going because my parents still wanted to watch Jack for the day. Just got a much later start than anticipated. :faint:

I can't believe it was your last day, Shelly. :sad1: It seems like you started your TR not that long ago! It seems only yesterday that you stepped out onto that sticky balcony at the BC. Once again, I've loved every minute of it your report. You make us all feel like we are there with you....well, almost! ;) I especially love all the pics you include.

Spending your last day at the MK seems like the perfect way to end a trip. It's good that y'all were able to do several of your favorite attractions before the crowds got so big. It sure seems like there has been construction in Fantasy land forever! When in the world are they going to finish and get those ugly cranes out of there? Not to mention Big Blue. It just takes a little of the magic away seeing all that stuff. But I guess in the end it will be worth it.

Love the pics of your boys in the gift shop and with the stepsisters. So cute!! And I love how your DS10 is always ready to make a pin trade. He looks like a serious businessman!

So I think I know what your next stop will be, but I'm looking forward to hearing about it! ;)

Please wish me luck down here over the next couple of days. That little storm that was headed for the Florida Panhandle now seems to be heading straight for us. :scared1: Friday, I went to the store and bought batteries and a few tarps. DH would think I had lost my mind if I told him I bought tarps, but in the last hurricane there were so many people across the city with roof damage, and no tarps to be found in the stores. So I decided to beat the rush and put a few away just in case. You know how some ladies buy shoes and purses and clothes and hide them from their husbands? Well, I'm hiding tarps. Hopefully we won't need them and I'll just take them back after hurricane season. I sure hope it isn't a powerful storm and doesn't cause any loss of lives or major damage. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't lose power for so long like we did a few years ago.

It does seem like just yesterday that I stepped out on that nasty sticky balcony!! At least I can laugh about it now.

I will be SO glad when they finally finish up Fantasyland. I am so sick of looking at those cranes and walls. It's so unmagical!! :crazy2:

Oh yes, DS is like a little businessman when it comes to pin trading. :rotfl: He's always on the look out and always ready to cut a deal!! :thumbsup2

We will be praying for you guys!! I guess I lost track of that storm and didn't realize it was headed your way. :scared: Stay safe!! I bet your DH would be so happy and proud of you if he ended up needing a tarp! ::yes:: But I sure hope you don't need them!

Keep up posted.

Teri--- praying for you guys to be safe thru it!! Hope your kids can all get out and get home if the need arises. Glad you have your tarps at the ready!:thumbsup2

Well, let's take a look here....

Are you arriving Tuesday morning and leaving Friday morning? Just want to make sure I understand the situation......

If that is the case and it were me I would totally scrap the party. But that's just me - I don't like to be that rushed and trying to squeeze too many things in. But other people love it!!

What about hitting AK for a few hours when you get there on Tuesday and then doing DHS Tuesday evening? Leave the entire day on Wednesday open for MK. I've found Wed to be the best day at MK!! ::yes:: And then all day Thursday would be open for Epcot.

Or if you really want to do the party then you could cut your Epcot day short and do it Thursday night. But what time do you have to get up Friday to go home? Thur night for the party might not be the best bet if you have to get up super early Friday...

OR - another way to fit in the party if you decide to go... Do DHS on Tuesday when you get there. Do the party Tues evening. Wed could be MK again (then you get to go there 2X like you wanted) and Thursday morning could be AK for a bit and then the rest of the day at Epcot...

Hmmm seems like maybe I only complicated things further... Sorry!! I really do hope that helped somewhat...:)

OMG Jodi, that is hilarious!! :lmao: Way to go, Mark! :thumbsup2 Doesn't it make you crazy when the average Joe Citizen can see a problem and an easy way to solve it that all the government agencies can't? :headache: Helloooo......everyone is trying to go in the same direction - contra flow is your friend! Maybe I should look up the Governor's number just in case.

Was Hurricane Hugo in the early 90's? I remember watching the news when that one was headed towards SC. I have a lot of useless information stored in my brain, but I seem to remember being in my living room on a Sunday night, ironing the kids' school clothes and watching the Hugo news. I remember that it was a very bad storm. Did you ride it out? You were probably just a baby then. ;)

Thanks for the prayers. :goodvibes I know I've said before what a weather chicken I am. :scared1: The crazy thing is that today is just a beautiful day. Usually it gets very eerie before a storm - do you know what I'm talking about? You can just tell that something is about to happen.

I didn't get the job I interviewed for today:( on to the next one. I don't know how much rejection I can take.

Thanks, Shelly! Watching the Weather Channel now, and they still don't know exactly where it will hit. At least with hurricanes you have time to prepare or get out.

Poor Jack! Or is it Jackie now? ;) Infections scare the heck out of me - you can't mess around when you see signs of one. Good for you for getting Jack to the vet that quick. That could have been bad! And how cute that your parents wanted to dog-sit for the day! That just made me smile. :)

Y'all have some really fun places to go within a reasonable driving distance. I looked at the link for Waldameer (very odd name, maybe there's a story there!) and it looks really fun! Did y'all have a good time? We wouldn't mind some pics. ;)

Crossing my fingers for you guys that the storm misses you, or at least isn't that bad!!

Thank you! :goodvibes When a hurricane is coming, nobody wants it to hit them, but then you hate to wish it upon anyone else either! :upsidedow So I will concentrate my prayers that it's not a bad one!

Ooh, never mind! ;)

Ooh, never mind! ;)

Girl how the heck are you gonna quote yourself and then say never mind???:lmao:

I do know that eerie feel to the atmosphere when a storm is about it hit. It is freaky. Especially once you've been thru a few and you know what's on the other side of that blackness.

Hugo was in 1989. I was in college in Oklahoma so I didn't go thru it. My Mom and I talked before it hit, I watched the weather as the weathermen were acting the fool, hanging onto lamp posts in downtown Charleston as the storm hit. I knew it was going to be bad. The next morning the front page of the newspaper there in OK had a bridge that we travelled on all the time toppled over and the words "South Carolina Declared a Disaster; Charleston Decimated". My normally high strung self went into over drive.:lmao:

I didn't get to talk to my mama for two weeks. It almost made me lose my mind. No one had phones at all--- thankfully a guy I sort of knew that worked for the telephone company came after two weeks and knocked on mama's door. He introduced himself and said that although no one was getting telephone service for another week, that he wanted to come hook hers up b/c he knew I was probably going crazy not being able to hear if she was ok or not.
Mama started crying. I don't know what possessed him to do it--- it was just one of those things that happens when a huge storm happens and people get back to being people and a community rallies together to care about one another.:grouphug:

Whew.

Okay long ramble..... y'all be safe. And get the Governor on Speed Dial. ;)

Shelly------------- :) I thought you'd appreciate the Gov story.:lmao: And give Jack a hug for me. Bless his little furry tail.

That's true - at least you have time to prepare with hurricanes. I really hope it weakens before it hits.

 Yes, it just might be Jackie now. ;):rotfl: Poor thing. It's been a rough week for him. Yeah, we didn't want to mess with an infection. They told us on the phone yesterday morning before we took him in that we could probably wait until today. But I didn't feel right waiting. Would have saved me a ton of $$, but oh well. Oh yes, my parents just love him.

Yeah we do have some cool stuff not too awful far from here. It sure wasn't Disney, but it was okay for the day!:)

Girl how the heck are you gonna quote yourself and then say never mind???:lmao:

Well, I just meant never mind to one of the things I said. :rotfl2:

OK, that was the year DD started kindergarten! I guess I cared that her uniforms were all pressed back then. :rotfl: I just remember all the weather guys saying how bad it was going to be, and they were actually right that time. DH was complaining about the TV people yesterday, how they could hardly contain themselves with excitement about Isaac. You can tell they want it to be bad - not that they want people to get hurt but they are just so into weather that they have a hard time not looking too excited about it. I can just picture those guys hanging onto lampposts in the wind. :rotfl2:

Whew.

That is such an amazing story! And maybe my brain doesn't store as much as I thought it did, but I think you had told me that before! That is a true friend! And your Mom crying, that makes me want to cry just thinking about her. People do come together in tragedies.

Okay long ramble..... y'all be safe. And get the Governor on Speed Dial. ;)

Shelly------------- :) I thought you'd appreciate the Gov story.:lmao: And give Jack a hug for me. Bless his little furry tail.

Later! :wave2:

So where did we end up after leaving MK??? Yep, you guessed it – the Poly!! :cool1:

Pretty soon we found ourselves in Captain Cook's getting some Dole Whips! The kids got vanilla and I got pineapple of course!

We walked outside behind Captain Cook's to get a table in the shade, but there were no tables to be found. The whole place was packed! Lunch time I guess. We walked back inside and found one empty table. We sat inside for awhile and enjoyed our dole whips, then decided to head outside for a bit.

I do miss the Poly!!!
The Dole Whips look delicious. YUM

I'm pretty bummed about the job situation... Disney would make it all better!!!
I've had 5 interviews in 3 weeks I really thought that it was my turn! I have another one tomorrow. Unfortunately that position isn't a classroom teacher- it's a grant funded job and may only be for a year UGH!!! What to do??
Yesterday my son's principal emailed me to offer me a paraprofessional position if I hadn't found a job yet. No offense but it's really hard to take a para job when you have your masters in elem. and have been teaching for 15 yrs.(it's like a step backwards). My DH said it will get my foot in the door in my own town's system. And it's not even 5 min. away. He's right but.... We'll see what tomorrow brings. I told her I'd let her know by Friday.
