:confused3 I am going to have some more work done on my hand in three weeks,Has anyone had this done?????If So what should i expect??? I am haveing at least 2 fingers done maybe 3 depending on what he sees when he goes in.Any help out there would be helpfull!!!!!

I need to have this done on one of my fingers too. I keep putting it off, because a cortisone shot every once in a while takes care of it (although I know this is only a temporary fix.) I'd like to hear form someone who has had it done too.

Good luck DaddyDon.

Yes i too have done the injections....They do help for a short time time but too many will only make it worse by weaking the tendons(tendons could Rupture)So i gave in and said i would go foward with the surgery.( I have had carpal tunnel and shoulder surgery all with in the past 3 years)I am tired of telling my 7 yr old daughter she cant play with dad becase she has my bad hand...Swelling ,joint pain and stiffness.and of course my fingers locking down. After a while mobic and the other drugs dont work.Neither do the otcs.( i have put this off for a couple of years)I will let you know after i have mine how it went...By the way i hate pain.........Call me a chicken.......

My mom just had this done. She had done the shots and they worked for alittle bit but wear off. She is doing much better and they just scheduled her to go in for her other hand.

I had this done on 2 fingers of my left hand about 2 years ago, after trying everything else possible. Not only were my fingers "locking up", but they were also becoming extermemly painful, especially in cold weather.

I won't use the term "miracle cure", but the surgery done was pretty darn close.

I did have some post surgery swelling & discomfort, but the most apinful part of the entire procedure was getting the sutures removed. Surgery was outpatient, & took about 25 minutes.

My hand is now fully functional & blissfully, totally pain free. It was well worth it.

Thanks for the replys any one else ????? What to expect are you awake ???? Or asleep??????

I was given 2 mg of Versed. It did not knock me out, but I did fall asleep.

GOOD STUFF!!

I give it sometimes in my job (Paramedic) & often wondered how it worked. Absolutely zero side effects. I woke up felling like i had a nice nap. There were 2 clocks on the wall for about 2 minutes, but no nausea or grogginess at all.

While I was asleep, they did a local nerve block on my hand, so it was numb for about 6 hours afterwards. I found out the futility of attempting to button a shirt or tie some shoes with a numb hand. It was kinda' funny to watch (so said my lovely DW).

Thanks for all the info .Looking foward to getting this behind me!!!!!

I had this done for my right ring finger a couple years ago. I had it done as an outpatient & was awake for the whole thing. I did get awfully giggly though. It was really weird after they did the nerve block because they kept telling me to "hang onto that arm!" They wanted me to hold my right arm with my left hand. I couldn't stop laughing because in my drugged state it looked to me like my right arm had no bones from the way it bent...kind of like Harry Potter after the loopy professor "fixed" it. LOL

Recovery was quite easy. I didn't need much in the way of pain meds. The "hardest thing" was that my job required a LOT of keyboarding & I couldn't go back for a couple weeks....like that was a hardship! ;)

The only thing I wasn't prepared for was that my ring finger size changed & I can no longer wear my rings. (I had quite a few.) It no longer locks up, although I don't think I can make my right fist as tight as my left. :confused3

BTW - The cortisone shot only worked for about a week for me. Surgery actually hurt less than the shot did.

Thank you for you story..i can relate to the nerve block...i had one on my shoulder surgery ...talk about dead weight!!!!!Thoses cortosone shots do hurt like hell.................I havent had one yet that hasn't hurt..Little sting my hinnie.

Hey! I went to the ortho doc today for what I thought was going to be a cortisone shot in my trigger finger. He offered to do the surgery right then & there in his office! He just numbed the finger and that part of the hand and used a needle to manipulate that tendon! Pretty cool! He says he does about one a week this way & the success rate is about 90% - good enough for me! So, if it didn't work, we'll schedule the regular, open-it-up way. I'm off to take a little nap (hey - I'll use any excuse to lie down!)
