Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

Two questions:
1. What's everyones thoughts on water shoes? We are doing dolphins in Coz and on our own beach at GC.

2. Do I need a power strip or is an extension cord enough? We won't have ipods or phones, just hair dryer, curling iron etc.

Laura

Hi Everybody

Have not been on for a while. I tore a ligament in my foot and had to have it casted. It is slowing down my pre cruise shopping. And I can't try on any old clothes to see if they still fit. Doctor said he will take it off the Friday before we leave if I think it is better. Well I could have told him at that moment it would be better. The last thing I want to do is stand on one foot in that little bath tub to wash my hair. I had to help out at school almost everyday this week so I way behind on what's happening with you guys.

Lynn

Lynn so sorry about your foot. I hope it is better for the cruise. :wizard:

Thank you! It made perfect sense! I was going to make a pillowcase but ran out of time. I happened to find bevel cut mats at Walmart that are specifically for autographs. And the price was right, 1.99!! I bought stickers of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto and put them on as well. All we can do is ask, right?::MinnieMo pluto: :mickeyjum :goofy:

Judy

That is perfect and they will sign the photomats. We have had them done several times and we had blanks ones with no stickers. I would put your stateroom number on the back of it...they put a piece of paper with it, but paper gets lost. When I did my pillowcases and my quilt top I safety pinned my last name and stateroom number that I wrote on fabric to it.

Lynn, you are correct on them not signing anything with another logo type on it and the Captain Jack with the characters. There is a boring legal reason for it that my husband could quote you. Sorry Chuck and Lisa I am not calling the law boring. Good thought on letting everyone know.

Laura

We always bring water shoes. There are parts that are rocky and I do not like cutting my feet. But that is just me.

As for the powerstrrip we bring a block that has mulitple outlets. There are not enough for us to charge our things and that is a battery charger and video camera and then plug our laptop in at the same time.

Also, let me share my geeky chemsitry with you, but spare you the explanation. For those that do not know bring a small thing of baby powder with you to the beach. Sprinkle it on and send brushes right off. The powder will also absorb any minimal amount of liquid/sweat on you. Sprinkle in your shoes, on towels, bags, even flip your head over and apply lightly to your scalp and the sand will fall off.

And my friend that is a beautician told me to spray my hair and daughters with detangler, spray in conditioner, or not to completely rinse the conditioner out of our hair before going into salt water. It apparently stops the salt water from penetrating the hair shaft and causing it to swell. Which will give you the dried out frizz look. I have treid it several times and no frizzy hair.

Lynn - Thank you! I'm sure we'll find each other. If not, I'll just yell!
Also, thanks for the info about the signatures. I'm glad I put the stickers on them.

Laura, We're doing Dolphinaris in Cozumel. It was just going to be me so I bought water shoes. Then DH and DS decided they would do it too. I never bought them shoes but then I read somewhere, and I'm thinking it may have been on their website, that they don't allow water shoes. If I run across any info I'll let you know. Perhaps someone else has done it and knows the answer.

I finished packing my suitcase! I did a total count before I took some things out and I had originally packed 18 tops, 10 pairs of shorts, 4 pair of capris, 2 dresses, 2 pair of slacks, 4 sweaters, 10 pair of socks and underwear, 5 pairs of shoes and a partridge in a pear tree! I took out MORE than half and I convinced myself I'll be ok. I had to make room for the FE stuff! Tonight I start on Ian's.:scared1:

Judy

Lynn - Somehow I missed the post about your foot. I hope you're feeling better soon. Having a cast is awful. I broke my ankle and foot prior to our last cruise. The cast was off but it was hard walking a lot. And we did 4 days at WDW prior to the cruise. Hey - When it comes to Disney, you do whatcha gotta do!
Judy

I hope the cast comes off. What better place to than the Disney Boat to be spoiled. I am more worried as to when we get back and have to decorate the house for Christmas. I usually have three ladders around the tree (10 foot tree) and go up and down to decorate. I think we might need a smaller tree this year. Or we could alway sneek home our stateroom host for a week. Ha now that's an idea.:rotfl2:

Lynn

PS I am so sorry to hear about the birdie.

Lynn--I'm sorry about your foot and hope you do get your cast off before the trip. We did a Disney cruise last September, and I had a fractured foot. I got rid of my shoe boot right before we left for the airport. I had a morning doctor's appointment, and then headed straight to the airport. It felt so good to get rid of that shoe boot!

Michelle--If only we could teach the cows to milk themselves, our lives would be so much easier! We can't even get the darn things to make chocolate milk!:rotfl2:

Sandy--we've always had late seating and haven't missed the pirate party. I agree with Michelle though and do think it's a good suggestion to tell your server that you need to be done in time. We did that last time and had no problems at all.

Judy--I can't believe you're already packed! I'll be stressing out at about this time next week trying to figure out what to take and leave. Actually, in the past I've always packed the night before. I'm hoping to try to atleast start next weekend for this trip though.

Have a great evening everyone! I usually hate Mondays, but since it's almost trip time, I'm pretty excited to keep chugging along and get through the next week and a half.:goodvibes

I almost forgot! Laura--we have always brought water shoes but then have never ended up using them. I always bring an extension cord though, and it works just fine.
Susan

I have not been on for awhile so this may have already been posted - but does anyone know what movies will be playing on board. We are hoping for HSM3. Thanks

Susanne sorry about your Zazu. :sad2: It very well may have been nothing you did to help him get unstuck. The stress of being stuck may well be the reason. Years ago Judy had a Cockatiel named Skyler. He was a nice bird but very very very very loud and chatty (we're talking 24/7) So he went to live at my friend Kelly's house where he would be with lots of other birds he could chat with. Fast forward 18 years and Kelly is moving to a new home and she can't take Skyler. I told her that he could come and live with me, but it didn't last long. Within 12 hours of his arrival, he passed away. I think the stress of changing homes at that stage in his life was just too much for him. Stress can kill birds very easily.

That bird damn near killed me!
When Linda says it was loud, she means loud. It never shut up. We covered his cage and he just screamed louder! His full name was Nat Sky King Cole! RIP Skyler.:sad1:
P.S. We also think he liked boy birds better than girl birds (wink, wink).
Judy

Thanks for the responses! Quick question I noticed some people are putting who the FE's are from.. I had done labels without including my name does it matter do I need to do more labels?

OK, live from DVC VB again...lets see how many i can respond to.

Lynn, look at the bright side, the foot is still better than last year...

As to DVC, we go to the presentation everytime on the boat plus the DVC meet b/c some of the door prizes are actually quite nice...that said, given the current economy, i would not be surprised to see a good deal on the boat, and at worst, you can always buy once you come back, but mention us or anyone else and you can get that not particularly advertised double discount...

As to DVC VB, the place has been very nice and the weather has really cooperated (so far)...we took an inn room, also known as an OVIR (ocean view inn room), which is kind on the points and very conveniently located...plenty of activities most of the day for Mason...tennis for me with the pro (OK that cost extra, but I tightened up my game and got some good exercise)...overall, I recommend the place so long as you understand this is a very nice beach resort with Disney touches, but there are not characters as every turn and there are no rides.

We also hit the nearby outlet mall which actually had some good sales - Polo/Liz/Jones NY/Lenox to name a few....

Chuck:cool1:

Now Squid Lips....the place is interesting...it is literally over water...the food is very good so long as you like seafood...Lisa had a seafood lasagna, with lump crab, scallops, shrimp etc....I had lobster and crab cakes...that is both were in each cake and they were loaded w/meat....and the conch chowder was also very good....the only negative is a suggestion....

Do not go to this place on Sundays, and Sundays only, unless you really like to listen to a Dixieland band playing the hits of the 20's and 30's..ok maybe there were some 40's mixed in there as I really cannot tell the difference...first time i have seen a conga line where the youngest person was at least 70...still, it was actually a neatly dressed crowd and it is moderately high end in terms of price so this was not your typical beach crowd.

So we highly reccomend the place for 6 days out of the week.

Chuck:cool1:

Movies on board (and you're in luck)
College Road Trip
Enchanted
National Treasure 2
Step Up 2
Pirates of the Caribbean
Swing Vote
Wall E
Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian
Miracle at St. Anna
Beverly Hills Chihauhau
Morning Light

High School Musical 3

Chuck - Vero Beach and an outlet mall - sounds like heaven!
Never got Ian packed. I'm too tired! Maybe tomorrow night.

Judy

To whoever asked, you do not have to be DVC to stay here...they do rent rooms when not full, though they are not cheap.

As to signing the pillow cases, not sure if this was answered, just drop the pillowcase off at guest services on deck 3 at the beginning of he cruise and pick it up towards the end completely signed.

Chuck:cool1:

Not easy trying to scan back over several pages..but internet in room only thru phone connection...moat modern laptops have built in wireless, so a trip to the very comfortable lobby hot spot is required...in fact as i look around, there are several other people plugged in too....it is nice that most of the columns have electrical outlets to use.

I actually watched a movie on he last cruise...first time ever...i (personal choice) just find it hard to spend time watching movies i can see on shore when there are so many other things to do that are unique to the ship

Thanks for the responses! Quick question I noticed some people are putting who the FE's are from.. I had done labels without including my name does it matter do I need to do more labels?

I wouldn't do more labels....our labels just have the peoples room number I didn't put who it was from.

We do not even put labels on ours so I would not worry at all. I say it a personal preference for each person.

Hey I was at Target today and they had Holiday Milk. One was Pumpkin Pie Spice and then other was Mint Chocolate....are those from your cows?:rotfl:
