Traveling Disers are lost and adrift somewhere?

Hey Castlegazer, since you're hanging at the Poly, want to meet me for lunch at the Kona Cafe? I love their sticky wings.

Karen

alright! meetcha there!

Hey! I didn't know you would be here. I just got up & thought I'd stumble in here for some lunch. How's it going? I think I'm gonna eat, then sit by the pool for a while.

mmnmhey, Dbhdbh! Oh, sorry, I had my mouth full of crab cakes.

Hey, I am just going to take it easy today - so pull up a hammock next to me and we will chill.

Tonight I am hitting Wishes as who knows how many more nights we have here until our Captains says, "All Aboard" again.

Aaaah, nothing like lying in a hammock sippin' Pina Coladas without a care in the world. I think I may be able to see Wishes from right here on the beach. Could we order up a beach party/barbeque so we don't have to move from this very spot?

DHB, now that sounds like a plan to this girl!!! A pina colada in hand, a hammock and Wishes....yep, count me in!!! At this rate, I don't care if Capt. Ed ever calls us back. Do they have 'hammock service' here at the Polynesian??

"Your drinks my dear ladies" - says the pool bartender for the Polynesian.

Oh me, me, me - please give me one of those wonderful drinks (and the bartender too, if he's free).

IRL, my office computer network crashed and was down the whole day. I've been in DIS withdrawal not knowing what the itinerary was.

Since we're lounging at the Polynesian, should we do O'Hana's for dinner and watch the fireworks?

Meanwhile, I'm now off work (yeah!) and heading to the beach until Tuesday. If I can't get to a computer between now and then, I wanted to wish everyone a wonderful 4th of July! Hope everyone has wonderful weather and lots of fun family time.

Just so everyone doesn't miss Captain Ed too much:

I see my fellow travellers napping on their hammocks on the Poly beach. I quietly pour buckets of water around the hammocks to get the sand all wet and gross. I tip over the hammocks so the travellers fall into the gross sand.

Captain Ed will be proud!

Karen,
And, I here I thought I had paid the Poly lifeguards enough to keep an eye out for your trouble making ways!

You don't know me very well, Suzanne. I tip very well. Just ask the Jellyrolls piano players. Anything you could have given the Poly lifeguards would have been at least doubled by me :)

Oh, and don't listen to a word all of the Boston folks here say about me. I do not take dives.

Oh, and I see you are from NY. I will be gracing that fine city with my presence next month :) Going to see Avenue Q and the Boy from Oz.

Karen

OK - I feel a touring slowdown happening as we all celebrate the independence of our country with too much imbibing, too many hotdogs and hamburgers, and way too much watching Keith Lockhart's butt (well, at least that's what I will be doing minus the imbibing part and I hope to throw in a few lobsters too).

So today prior to the full weekend swing and then possible cast off, we will do your favorite park again, whatever that may be, so vote for it and I will post up a picture of together with your favorite ride.

I am off to Epcot to go see Figment this morning and then do the countries this afternoon as I have some shopping to do prior to come upcoming weddings and birthdays.

CG...I'm with you on Mission Space. But my last ride has to be BTMRR. It's a tradition. Love the trinkets. We talked about starting a collection of those from different attractions last Dec. Think we'll start this August. Thanks for reminding me!!!

OK - here we go Diane - I am a little scared. After those thunderstorms last night, though, I can handle anything ;)

These photos and the description are from right here on WDWINFO.

The ride begins with the launch countdown, and they throw in some Psychological effects that help build the tension you might experience before a launch. As the countdown approaches the launch, the seats drift back into the launch position of facing to the sky, on your back. At lift off you feel the engines roar, and blast off. The ride creates large G Forces, and a tremendous feeling of increasing speed as the craft escapes the Earth's gravitational pull.

As the flight continues there is a simulated feeling of weightlessness. Each member of the four people in the vehicle has a mission to do during the simulated flight. Each missions outcome depends on how well the team performs during the flight.

After the attraction ride ends you enter the attraction post ride area that features games that everyone can play. There is also be an interactive play area for kids and adults.

Created by former NASA advisors, astronauts and scientists, along with the Walt Disney Imagineering team they created “Mission:SPACE”. The attraction uses new technology, which makes it the first ride system ever created to take attraction visitors straight up in a simulated flight experience.

The vehicles have four seats in a row with dividers running between each seat, which face four video monitors and control switches. Each seat is equipped with a locking "over-the-shoulder" harness restraint, and its own sound system built into the seats. The vehicles interior are very detailed, having a large number of controls and displays in front of each seat, along with a joystick that each person use. The vehicles front portion fold downwards, which is used for loading and unloading of the vehicle.

The ride system was manufactured by Entertainment Technology Corporation. ETC builds human centrifuges that create 2.5 G's [1 to 1.5 G's in one second!], large-scale intelligent VR training simulators, to creating the next generation of motion-based simulation attractions which allow sustained G's and continuous 360º motion in up to four axes on the ride.

The Ballad of Big Thunder Mountain
At Big Thunder Mountain station there’s a frighten trembling man,
His body’s weak and feeble and his skin has left his hand,
When I asked him for a ticket, he turned and shook his head,
He grabbed my by the shoulder and this is what he said:

"Before you get on board this train there’s something you should know,
When I finish with this tale you might not want to go."
I listened with amazement at what he said was true,
And now my friend the time has come to tell this tale to you.

Hear the legend, of Thunder Mountain,
Victory come and tries to stay away,
From Big Thunder, Mountain railroad,
Thunder Mountain Railroad ran away!

He said as legend has it on one foggy night in June,
The train and crew pulled out as well beneath the darken moon,
With a boiler full of water and a tender full of coal,
The whistle screamed a warning as the wheels began to roll.

Then like a bucking bronco with a cougar on it’s back,
The train began to run away on miles and miles of track,
What happened to the crew that night no one has ever learned,
The train pulled in all by itself, the men did not return.

Hear the legend, of Thunder Mountain,
Victory come and tries to stay away,
From Big Thunder, Mountain railroad,
Thunder Mountain Railroad ran away!

The history of Big Thunder, continues to unfold,
The stories of its danger continue to be told,
Of avalanche and rattle snakes and earthquakes in the night,
And voices of that phantom crew that chill your blood with fright.

So please forgive me mister if I’m standing in your way,
But before you buy your ticket, there’s one thing I have to say:

Hear the legend, of Thunder Mountain,
Victory come and tries to stay away,
From Big Thunder, Mountain railroad,
Thunder Mountain Railroad ran away!

Disneyland took the first great leap into its own rollercoaster history back in 1959 with the addition of the Matterhorn. In 1975, WDW countered with the intergalactic Space Mountain, which Disneyland followed suit with in 1976. Then, the rowdy Big Thunder Mountain Railroad debuted in 1979 and the popular mine train adventure has since been replicated at each of Disney's international resorts. The out-of-control mine adventure got a bigger production on the east coast, yet presents the same basic storyline that's become so classic: you're trapped on a runaway mine train and there's nothing you can do about it.

Stepping aboard the train, a miner's voice warns that "this is the wildest ride in the wilderness" and with that initial descent into bat-infested caves, you're at the mercy of the Imagineers. After the headlong plunge into darkness, the train emerges in rainbow caverns and passes underneath an unusual waterfall that sprays water over delighted riders.

Once the final car is over the rise, the run is on. Quickly through, around, over and in between the majestic rock-work of Big Thunder Butte, the train chugs frenetically, diving around in errant spirals and dipping suddenly underneath imposing boulders. Whipping into a tight turn, riders feel as if they're uncomfortably out of control, thanks to the unusual track layout that simulates "train turbulence" as you wind your way through the course. A flooded town provides an entertaining obstacle as the train careens through and offers glimpses of people in bathtubs, saloons with parties in progress and a deep tunnel to contemplate as you hit a long, high lift that affords a brilliant view of the coaster landscape.

A natural Disney twist, your train ends up in the middle of an avalanche, with fiber optics simulating falling dirt and rock walls converging in on your hapless train.

Very cool!!!! And Katie is standing here and thinks it's pretty neat too. BTMRR is her all-time favorite. Yeeehaw!!! Thanks.
