Transfer Question - Do I have this right?

Hi guys-
We're planning an extended family trip for Thanksgiving 2007. Rather than borrowing from 2008, I'm thinking I'd like to find someone to transfer points to me. I own at BWV with a February UY. Since I've already done a transfer in 2006, and since I need these points for a 2007 reservation anyway, I think I need to find someone who has 2007 points to transfer. Is this correct? Does it matter when I do the transfer? Can I do it now?

Also, I want to book a BWV standard view studio and 2-bedroom, so I plan to book it day-by-day at 11 months. Based on that, I think I technically need someone's 2007 BWV points, although it sounds like once the points get transferred into my BWV account, they look and feel like my BWV points and theoretically, I should be able to use them at 11-months. Is this really true or do I need to find BWV points?

If this gets too complicated, I may just borrow the points, but I hate to go in the hole unnecessarily!!

This is possible, but you'll find many people recommend borrowing before transferring. You're saving your future points for a trip that doesn't exist yet. What is your circumstances or plans change and you can't travel when you thought? Many will recommend go ahead and borrow, and then deal with your "hole" when you need to deal with it.

You are correct. You can do the transfer whenever. You will be looking for someone with 2007 points to transferm but you can't have someone with a December Use Year, as those points technically would need to be borrowed and you can't borrow transferred points.

You are correct again, and I still don't think we know very well whether the points are still "morphing". If you got BWV points - then no problem for sure. If you get others - it seems they may morph, but there is constant discussion of enforcement.

As to transferring non BWV points, and hoping they morph into BWV points, is currently a big IF.

As you may know, DVC is strongly acting now on many abuses to the use of transfer points, especially those who have been doing a lot of rentals. I suspect they're looking more carefully at point origins, and working to prevent point morphing.

To play it safe, especially since you're talking 2007, it's best to only have someone else's 2007 BWV points transferred to your 2007 BWV points. In this case there's no question that you can use them to reserve at 11-months.

If you have already accepted a transfer during your 2006 Use Year, I don't think you can do another transfer until you are in your 2007 Use Year - even if you want to transfer 2007 points into your 2007 Use Year. IMO, the policy is not clear regarding this, so MS may allow it (and it would be worth a try).

I would think you will need to wait until after your February 07 Use Year begins to transfer anything either in or out.

I would also agree that it might be wise to make sure you have BWV points transferred if you wish to use the 11 month priority at that resort. I suspect MS will be making a greater effort to track the origin of transferred points when it involves making reservations at 11 months.
