Just to point out it isn't really Disneys fault if they are told they have to leave or else they will get stuck because of tides. They can't exactly beach the Magic just because a tour hasn't got back. They still sorted out getting them to the ship which is what I've always assumed they would do if I did a tour through them.

I am however surprised that they didn't send a tender boat back for them as I think they do have a tender on the Magic don't they (or maybe they don't) as I would have assumed this was easier to get in and out of the port in low tides

I think everyone who has been on the ships and the CD speaks will feel it's very very much implied.

The standard CD speech in the first night show, go on your own tour, ensuring you have your camera, so you can take a nice photo of the ship as it leaves port, really does underline that. This has been the standard speech on every cruise I have taken.

I never saw written or heard that they garrenttee they will always stay. It make no sense to say that, as there is always going to be situation where they could not stay, like this one.

As to the CM talks I have heard...that does not say they will wait....it is implying that they are responsible at least to get them to the ship at some point. It is only a informational talk, not a legal verbal contract the CD's are giving.

It all depends on the weather and sea conditions at the time. If it was safe to bring them back in a small tender or other boat. Also the time to the next port. AKK

Oh yeah true! Hadn't even thought about weather conditions for the tender or the time it takes. I would have been gutted if I'd been those people but at least they are back onboard today!

I agree........It does make me wonder just what happened they were so late the Magic didn't wait.........accident?....breakdown?....medical thing?

I suspect it was traffic. There are tremendous road construction projects going on in Dublin right now as a "big dig" and traffic was horrendous.

We are online friends with someone on the ship now and they reported that it was heavy traffic delays that kept the bus from returning to the ship in time. We'll be in Dublin with the June 5th sailing and plan to see the city on our own, but will certainly be adding more time to our "return plan" so that we aren't stranded. And we'll be rethinking the contents of our day-bag for our excursions, even the DCL-sponsored ones. I'm glad to read about how DCL handled taking care of the passengers who were left behind and I suspect that the excursion times will be adjusted before the Magic is back in Dublin to accommodate for traffic time.

Reports that the Magic left Dublin, and left 30 people there, on a DCL tour, thry left due to the tides and getting stuck there. The 30 went by ferry to Liverpool.

So DCL cannot now say if your on a DCL tour they will wait for you, as thry didn't!

Any idea WHICH excursion it was? I am from Dublin and I have been helping people on the 5th June cruise plan their Dublin port day. I had a look at some of the excursions and thought some were a bit ambitious, knowing the distances and traffic problems.

This is Disneys first time in Dublin and arranging excursions. Maybe who ever organised this particular one did not allow enough time for distance and traffic

They are currently laying the cross piece for the new line on O'Connell Street and the tram only goes to Jervis right now, not all the way down to The Point. I agree. As I said earlier, They could not let her run aground(or settle on the bottom either for that matter) and there were sea and weather conditions to take into account ....AKK

thanks, ok, right for those wondering how the excursion could have missed getting back in time.
I have just had a look at this itinerary https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/port-adventures/dublin-ireland-wicklow-on-the-big-screen/ This is VERY ambitious for the timeframe. The first part of the tour is in Dublin city, but then it heads out of the city to Wicklow. Its approx 40 km from the morning stop to the next stop in Bray, then from Bray they do another 25 km into the mountains, and then its 60 km through the mountains back to the port and the ship.

There is just too much distance and too much packed into this and the timeframe does not allow for traffic. To me this is a two day tour, not a 6 hour tour. I can see why people would want to do it, it shows both sides, the city and country side, but its far too ambitious in the timeframe.

You have until 3 days before sail date to change it, I would be looking up reviews on Trip Adviser to get sense of the time and traffic etc. Is this a new excursion that they never did before? I know I was amazed that when they stopped in Lisbon they had several excursions that I shook my head at because it was an aggressive schedule, and knowing that one slight traffic delay would put the pax in danger of missing all aboard

Honestly if it were me, I would cancel this excursion and book something else. It looks like a very enjoyable excursion BUT being from Dublin and knowing the distances and traffic patterns, to me the time frame is not enough. If I was bring visitors on this same itinerary, I would allow between 2 to 4 hours more.

The transatlantic cruise is the first time a Disney ship has been to Dublin, and Thursday 26 May was the first time these excursions have actually been done. Maybe for future cruises, they might adjust excursion itineraries but I would say for the June 13 Dublin port excursions, they probably wont do much adjustments.

Disney probably want to see if this was just a one off late returning excursion before they make itinerary adjustments for future port calls.

Did you take the shuttle from the port into the city? Or maybe know about it? Was it free and also where did it drop off in town?
We're on the June 5th but doing the city on our own with a 10:00 Book of Kells stop to be followed by the hop on and off bus - just trying to figure out what time to be back to the shuttle and leave plenty of time for delays. Thx.

This is the main " hard selling " point DCL has to get cruisers to purchase DCL tours and not private tours.

I've never heard them say that.

If people are making choices based on what they feel is implied that's on them.

Saying "if you go on your own and are late we won't wait" is not, actually, saying "we will wait if you go with us and we are late".

I just want to mention that the BofK took a LOT longer than anticipated because there's just so much else to see there. And seeing the things on the way to the book enhanced what we saw, IMO. And seeing the areas afterwards was nice as well.

HOHO was ok but nothing awesome. The old U2 studio is a fenced off hole in the ground for instance; or at least it was two summers ago when we did the bus.

If there's a choice between really exploring around in the Book area vs the bus, I recommend the book.

Here is the Sunday morning map. As predicted the depression is ashore/ along the coast, heading northeast The DCL and any cruises in the Bahamas and south should be basically ok. The only ones in question would be those leaving the the upper east coast, especially those heading to Bermuda.

Remember now this is NOT a big deal..its only 35 mph winds and the seas will be rough but no where near hurricane.
