Thanks for the reply!
Can you explain further why I should use at least a day on the original ticket before upgrading?
Would it be better/worse to purchase from uct vs dis?
When exchanging an unused ticket, Disney will give you credit for what they were paid for the ticket. If you purchased directly from Disney, this means you'll get credit for exactly what you paid for the original ticket. If, however, you purchased it from a ticket broker or other discount location (like UCT), you may receive less than what you actually paid. That's assuming that the broker you purchased from added on a small profit for themselves.
For a partially-used ticket, in most circumstances, Disney will first bridge the used ticket to the current gate price before doing the exchange. This means the credit you get for the ticket will be the price they're charging on that day for the same ticket, and not the amount you originally paid. One exception to this is a ticket purchased directly from Disney as part of a package. Those won't be bridged, and you'll only get credit for the original ticket price paid. Other exceptions include convention tickets and other special tickets sold to groups, which usually can't be upgraded.
If the ticket is completely used, Disney may not allow you to upgrade it.
(They've implemented this policy to prevent people from selling their used tickets to others after a vacation, which allowed the second user to get the upgrade price instead of paying for a new base ticket. It's a further enforcement of their rule that tickets can only be used by the original guest.) If, however, the fully-used ticket was purchased directly from Disney, they may allow you to show the original credit card to prove you were the original purchaser of the ticket. If purchased from a non-Disney source, they won't allow the upgrade.
