Toshiba Thrive Tablet -?

My friend really knows nothing about technology - I'm more advanced than her! :lmao: I did set up my desktop by myself, figure out the iPod and Kindle, etc. This just seems like something for younger people, I don't need games and apps. I don't know if I can start to set it up and then return it if I don't like it? I really want a small laptop with Windows. I don't mean to sound ungrateful - just feel uncomfortable. :upsidedow

Oh lord! :lmao:

That tablet is just like a small laptop 'n with Windows, I just don't like the feel of it coz it doesn't sit on your lap like a laptop unless ya buy the thingy Robin described. See? I'm pretty tech savvy myself! :lmao:

Once again, I wanna thank my wife for settin' up my Droid! ;)

snappy, start settin' that tablet up 'n yeah, you can wipe it clean before returnin' it if ya decide to do that, but someone else is gonna have to tell ya how, I don't know how. :rotfl:

I wonder if she would be insulted if I exchanged it for a laptop and just paid the difference? I can't see having something so expensive that I won't use.

You oughta talk to her, QVC's havin' a good sale on laptops too.

OK, I plugged it in! :lmao: Seems like I have a wifi connection, but can't figure out how to make the keyboard appear so I can go to Yahoo mail.

You can load pics on it from an SD card. There's also both a front and rear camera you can take pics with.

So...I've been playing for a few hours and I will say that having an Android phone has helped immensely. I understand the operating system and how to manage apps, etc.

There are two app groups available...I prefer the Android Market. It's easier to use than the other app on the Thrive. Easier to search for specific apps, etc.

Also, there's a user's guide available on one of the screens. (I believe it was placed on the second screen if you scroll to the right) You can click on this and then it takes you to a screen to download the guide book. I did this. It's about 130 pages long, but it's got lots of good info and it takes you through everything step by step.
That's all I've got for now. :lmao: I'm having fun!

I think you can get that just by tappin' the right place. :rotfl:

For the yahoo mail you either need to do it through an internet browser or there should be mail under setting that you can add your yahoo account to (I'm just guessing based on my use of other devices).

Thanks, I found the keyboard. I'm trying to sign into Yahoo, but I think it wants my google account first. Also, I didn't register it yet because I don't know if I'm keeping it, so maybe that is why it won't let me sign into Yahoo?

I don't think that should matter. Also be careful with your passwords and such since you are "borrowing" someone else's WiFi.

I know I sound like I'm from another planet, but I've only used a desktop.

Does that mean other people can see my email, etc if i am on a "borrowed" wifi?

I don't know about reading stuff, but they can grab your passwords (unless on https) if they know what they are doing (and from what I have read, it's relatively easy to hack into an open WiFi, so it could be anyone who has access to that WiFi not just the person you are borrowing from).

Ok, I downloaded the user manual, went thru it, found out how to restore to "out of the box" condition. I think it's going back, I don't like the touch screen, it kept zooming on me, made me dizzy. I think I'm getting a laptop :sad2:

You have a capacitive touch screen, which can take a minute to adjust to. My first one had a resistive one, which only worked with a stylus, my new one works with the touch of a finger so I had to adjust to it.

Good article on the difference: http://www.knowyourmobile.com/features/392510/touchscreen_lowdown_capacitive_vs_resistive.html

I love my laptop, the tablet is too much like a big Droid to me 'n I've already got a Droid. I'm not interested at all in a tablet, but if wifey wants it, hey, can't complain coz I'm sittin' here with a brand new laptop!! :lmao:

We have a touchscreen desktop, a new laptop, a netbook and now the tablets. I am a gadget fiend. I use each for different things. I don't like the laptop in bed, for instance, the tablet works wonders for me. Phones are too small for my BAD eyes! The tablet is a perfect size.

My wife loves electronic gadgets, we got some that I don't even know what they are! However, I am very interested in some new kinda TV that's already internet connected so we can Facebook what shows we're watchin'! :lmao:

DH wants to get me an Apple laptop, I'll get my own wireless router and then I guess I'll be safe. Thanks for all your patience dealing with this crazy old lady today ;)

I just had to come back to the thread and use it to post. :lmao:

Snappp...I think it's all about what you're comfortable with. For your first foray into the wireless world, I'd definitely recommend the laptop over this thing.

I felt sneaky returning it without telling my friend. She said she is fine with it, but I really worry that I might have hurt her feelings. On the other hand, I hate to see so much money go to waste. I figured I would tell her first, in case she wanted it for one of her sisters.

This is why I stopped buying Christmas gifts for most of my family - I give them money and let them pick what they want. You can't do that with certain people - my friend being one of them. She has a really high paying job and giving her $ is just ridiculous - I always take her to a Broadway show and dinner for Christmas every year and she buys me a gift I would never buy for myself. Last year she got me the Kindle, which I absolutely love.

This tablet just doesn't seem right for me. Sorry I put all of you through this pre-Christmas drama :upsidedow

Hey, I got good info off this thread! :lmao:

I think it was better for you to tell her rather than trying to spare her feelings! What if she had come over and asked to see you use it or something? :scared1:

I love my Kindle too. :lovestruc She's my best friend, next to my wife. :rotfl2:

You'll have to come back and let us know what laptop ya' get! :thumbsup2
