Makahiki was a really good buffet. Sad to hear it changed! (I went juuuuust as covid hit - like, I ended up staying in my room as things started shutting down). So sad. It was the best breakfast on property. Went 2 years ago and they gave us unlimited "sides". Kinda reminds me of what happened at Aulani. Makahiki used be an amazing breakfast buffet. After the pandemic, it's just a set menu but the prices remained the same. A huge ripoff. Oh wells. I guess all good things eventually come to an end.
One thing different than previous trips was they wouldn’t bring out any food for my toddler since she’s under 3
You’ll need to have them in the head count no matter if they eat or not. It’s about fire code. If you want to get a meal you’ll just have to pay the child price for them. If they don’t stop the second entree in a couple days you could order a dish she’ll like to give to her.I'll have to keep this in mind, although I might just end up including mine in the head count because she's a breakfast fiend.

Same here. We went for the first time over Thanksgiving and it was the first character meal that my husband said he didn't mind paying for! It's sad because how much does it really cost Disney to give a small side of waffles, fruit, etc. Character meals are crazy expensive, but that little extra made it feel like there was some value. Maybe this will be short lived like when they tried to remove Ohana noodlesIf these changes are true, I wonder if it will be easier to book Topolinos in the future. It’s been THE reservation to get the last 2 years. I’m thinking Disney knows this and are pushing their limit on how much they can take away while keeping up demand. I already know that they’ve lost me. Their breakfast is good. But not $45pp good. Peace out!
It would add up to a lot with hundreds of people doing it every day. Costs in food service have increased by leaps and bounds. Food costs are no joke and I am betting they found there was a lot of waste.Same here. It was inevitable. Topolinos was a phenomenal hit in its first 2-3 years. Now it will be one of many average to good places to eat in WDW. Nothing special to get all excited about. Oh wells. I’ll go back to making breakfast in our room and save $$$$It would add up to a lot with hundreds of people doing it every day. Costs in food service have increased by leaps and bounds. The problem will inevitably arise when CMs will be inconsistent with enforcement. You know how people can get when they’re paying all this money and not get what they think they’re entitled to. CMs always receive the brunt of that fury unfortunately.Maybe they will consider not removing the option, but just won’t tell people. When we went the other day our waiter didn’t tell us, I had to ask if we could. If I hadn’t known about it no one would have ordered the extras. Would save them money and also backlash of people being disappointed
I would be happy to order the steak as my entree if they would serve it with eggs and potatoes. That is my main gripe everywhere. They think because a person wants steak, they want frou-frou sides. Just give me the basics! LOL.
If it is not printed on the restaurant website, they did not make it official. It clearly says CHOICE OF ENTREE. No one should expect anything more than the published menu offers.AFAIK, this didn't start out as an official policy. It's just something they kind of did, and since it became an expectation, they eventually did make it official. Now, I guess they've decided to take it away. It does suck and will knock Topolino's down a few notches on my character meal list, but as far as food quality and character interaction go, it's still way up there.
They definitely seem inconsistent. We ate there yesterday and we could order the waffle on the side of steak. I got the quiche and the salmon bagel. We ate there a couple of days ago. We were told by the CM that we could get eggs, bacon and/or sausage on the side of any entree. However we couldn’t order, say, the steak and get a side order of sour cream waffle or anything like that. He told us to basically ignore what the menu said about the included side for each entree and he wouldn’t let us leave hungry. It was an excellent meal. It will be interesting to see how it changes going forward.
