Do any other DVC owners book cash rooms?

I booked a summer trip with the free dining offer earlier this year. Just a short 5 night trip at Pop. I only have a 100 point contract. I am navigating purchasing a companion or replacement contract at the Poly but I am not in a hurry.

My question: Does anyone else purchase cash rooms while owning DVC?

I probably won't ever do so aside from if I decided I wanted to go during a time that was already booked for DVC.

We came down for a business trip a couple years ago and I said screw it, I'm probably not going to have a chance to stay in the tower at Coronado Springs for awhile so we took that opportunity and had a fantastic time actually. We enjoyed 3 Bridges and just relaxed at the resort. But yeah unless another business trip like that or the time we want to go is fully booked on the DVC website I don't anticipate using anything but points.

We have, when we wanted to go but were out of points or saving for a big trip. We stayed at Pop twice and POR once, for Star Wars Weekend, FoP previews, and I don’t remember the other reason.

I screwed up for our Feb trip earlier this year and forgot to book extra so we stayed at Coronado Springs for a couple days before moving to AKL for the rest of the week.

I don’t but I did just rent a DVC reservation from an online friend known to me for years outside the Dis. I had posted some waitlist questions here on the Dis. Turns out this person had the nights I needed and couldn’t use them. The rental meant I didn’t need to borrow points for the reservation, and I could retain my 11 mo booking advantage for those points. It isn’t a huge expenditure but is worth it to us!

I have a couple times. Just recently in a Poly Tower 1BR TPV and a couple of times previously at Coronado Springs GDT.

I have never even considered it. We would just wait until we had enough DVC points for the trip.

We have - to add a night.

We have to stay at the Swan & Dolphin for our EPCOT resort area trips (usually get a suite)

We also stay off property sometimes - most especially at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and are excited to try Evermore at some point as well.

I wouldn't under normal pricing but the ap and florida resident deals are on par with buying otu points for a full day. I have bought otu points to complete reservations now while I wait for another contract to go thru so in other words I would check the rate and if it's $350 a night or less like i saw bcv under ap I would go for it if I ran out of points, but if I was doing that and wasn't under ROFR right now I'd definetely be looking for another contract.

yes to add a night or two, or when I see a really great sale and cash price is better than points:)

Last weekend, a member friend of mine and I decided to make a 4 night trip to see the new nighttime parade in late July. Neither of us has points left plus little DVC availability. She’s retired Disney Store and got a great CM rate at Pop. I don’t mind cash rooms for “extra trips”.

I have for work trips (which may not count since I wouldn’t be using points anyway). I’m also doing it as a backup as I’m in the process of selling one contract to buy another - didn’t want a delayed closing, or risk not being able to secure the room with new contract.

I have a couple times with AP discount over the years. But in my mind every time, I'm like "you could be using this money towards buying more points". The current promos are nice though so not a bad idea to take advantage of them. We only stay in 2BR at this point of our DVC life, so now I just get a point transfer if I'm low on points.

As a dvc owner out of points, i book a rental from the dvc store and cash at dhhir and cash rooms (moderate or value) on my ap discount at wdw.

I am paying cash for a 4-day cruise after using 6 days for my DVC points and I could see paying cash for a stay at Universal for a few days combined with using my DVC points.

I doubt I will pay cash at WDW.

Same here. We have never had a reason to use cash for a room or felt that we *had* to go for a particular event, opening, preview, etc. :-)

The summer annual pass holder deals are way too good to pass up. We were able to book a trip (PIT TPV) for a comparable amount to the point value and didn't have to worry about DVC availability (there was none for that room category). I was thinking of adding on points because we're annual pass holders and want to fit in more trips but that may not always be the case, particularly as our kids get older, so adding on cash stays when they have great deals like this makes more sense for us.
