Too old to become DVC owner???

I'm 59 and my husband is 60. We just bought and we are from the UK, but still thought it would work for us.

Was 54 when I bought first contract and would love to do an add on now at 64 but have to wait and see where we are financially since my dh's job is being eliminated by the end of the month.

I'm 54 and my DH is 58. We are just in the process of completing purchase of 2 resale contracts! One at OKW (for the large rooms, big verandahs and relaxed feel) and one at HHI (for the kick back and do nothing vacations). We would have loved to buy 15 years ago but it just didn't work out til now.

Also, just were blessed with our first grandchild last year and are looking forward to fun family trips alternating with relaxing DH and I trips. Can't wait to get started:cool1:

I was just thinking about this..us being too old. I'm 51 and DH is 52. Kids are 27, 24 and 22. Grandkids are 7, 4, 3, 2 and 1..we just bought and hope to have many years to do the DVC thing.
Nice thread!

Just wondering what the average age of DVC owners are? I'm 47 and husband is 44 with two teenagers, 14 & 16... we are about to take the plunge as soon as we find the right resale. Did we wait too long????

We were older than that when we purchased, and now we are in our 60's and still enjoying DVC, so...NO, I don't think that is too old at all!

I was 60 and my husband was 72 when I purchased. No kids but I'm a Food and Wine fanatic.

Add me to the list of old timers. I am 45 almost 46 (dont look a day over 27
:rotfl: ) and DH will be 50 soon. Our kids are 13&15. We just bought 175 at BCV for Christmas.

We pondered the very same issue when trying to decide...a couple years ago when we were 45, 43, 16 and 10.

As you can see from my signature, we love Disney but were not sure how much we'd want to visit as the kids got older.

However, since we bought back in '06, we've taken (2) DVC point trips (throw in a non-points DCL cruise) and have (2) more DVC stays booked.

We also think we'll take at least a few WDW trips before our kids decide not to participate for a while.

When that time comes, we plan to use points on Adventures by Disney, exchange them out, take Disney trips w/o kids or rent out points we don't use.

One day, our kids will eventually come back around if/when they have families and the whole cycle will start over again.

It seems like (from the posts here) the luxury of owning DVC comes later in life. For us, we looked at buying long-term value not necessarily related to our current age or that of our kids. Rather, we looked at whether the system in place would mature with our travel needs.

Good luck with your decision.

My parents are 62 and just purchased a resale at the boardwalk. Just talked to them today, they just returned from Disney World and they had a great time.

WE bought at BWV in 98' and I was 45 and wife 47. It's never to late to become a kid again! This past Christmas we had the entire family, 3 adult children and their families and 2 grandkids, there for a family Christmas vacation. In June, we're heading to DL for a week and then onto WDW for two weeks. That's my retirement trip!

Boy you people are really OLD. ;)

We bought in a few years back and we are only in our late teens to early twenties................. no matter what our driver's license says.

Our beautiful daughter is a true ten months old.

I am 48 and DH is 51 we just bought last July and we have no children:thumbsup2

I was 52 and DH was 54 when we bought our first DVC. I wish we could have done it sooner, but we're sure happy to have eventually been able to make the purchase. I'm now 57, DH is 59 (for a few more weeks, anyway:) ) and I can't tell you how much we look forward to our 2 trips a year.

My wife and I are both 58, bought in 5 years ago, have made 10 trips and taken 10 years of our lives. We were not Disney fanatics before, but now we can't wait until the next trip. We have grandchildren, ages 15 and 10, and we will probably have great grandchildren to take someday, but we really enjoy our "old folks" only trips the most.

DVC does keep us all younger doesn't it?

I like threads like this since reading them doesn't make me feel so old after all.. :goodvibes

No Way! We were 34 when we bought almost 11 years ago. But we just did another 150 point add-on in 2007 at AKV. I can't wait! Next year will be our first with our grandkids! I still remember our first DVC trip when our DD's were only 11 and 14. :) Never know, I may be up for more points in Hawaii in 2011! :thumbsup2 What do you mean too old?!? ;)
