Too old to become DVC owner???

The dynamics of our family changed dramatically. We became grandparents and DGC came in 3 successive 12 month periods and within a very short time after that, the whole family was willing to fly, and spend time in WDW together. So, we have more points than we anticipated buying in '03. I do not think that we will be keeping all of the points until 2042. We are more in the "live for today" mode. We have found firsthand that everyone ages differently, and unexpected things happen. My DMom for whom we began our DVC purchase, cannot travel anymore. She had over 20 nights in various DVC resorts over a 3 year period...now when we mention Disney she smiles and I hope she remembers, but she says "its not for me." She's 88 and when she was 86, we were at VWL with friends, and she told me to "buy 25 points for me, so I can help pay my way when I come." She came for about 12 more days, the following year, '06. I sure wish she could come again with us.
Those 25 points will always be refered to as hers...was she too old? She was 86 and was so happy, she told everyone about Disney timeshares and how she was enjoying them.

You just about made me cry on that one. I've taken my 83 yo parents to WDW 3 times in the last year and a half. I'm hoping upon hope for CRV. We stay at CR because it's easier for them. I'm 52...and seriously considering DVC. I'll take my parents to WDW for as long as they can handle it. WDW brings out the kid in them.

Nah...you'll enjoy it with your kids for a while, then you'll enjoy it as a couple or with other friends...and believe me Disney without kids is a very different vacation.

Then you'll enjoy it with grandkids.

It's willable too!

I will be 60 in May (where did the time go?) and I have no children. We just bought last spring. I took my 81 year old mom and sister down last week (OKW 2 bedroom unit) so we could hook up with my niece and her recently home from Iraq husband and their 3 kidlets. We had a wonderful time. I am so glad we bought in. We are going to AKL week after Thanksgiving and can't wait.

Just wondering what the average age of DVC owners are? I'm 47 and husband is 44 with two teenagers, 14 & 16... we are about to take the plunge as soon as we find the right resale. Did we wait too long????

I don't think so. We purchased last Jan. I was 44 at the time. Our kids were 16, 13 and 8. Sure we could have kicked ourselves that we didn't do it years ago when WE ALMOST DID.....but we are very happy now. We also broke our 300 points into three 100 pt. contracts to pass on to our kids for many years of enjoyment.

I've been going to Disney since it opened. At 46, I've made quite a few trips over the years and now I take my own family. My son is 11 now and he's been going to Disney since he was 2. I used a friends DVC several times and fell in love with it and then finally in 2000 I became a DVC member. We think of it as our home away from home. We love Disney and OKW and always look forward to returning. At times, we go and never visit a theme park and still have a great time. If you love Disney and you love to vacation, I say go for it!

OH, NO,

I bought when I was 56...and I am now 58...look at those adorable grandchildren of mine! I bought for myself and DH and added on so that I could provide a vacation for our 5 children and spouses and grandchildren, knowing they would never be able to afford it while the kids are young.

DH and I LOVE WDW and have been going for years. Best thing we did was join...and when I am gone, will pass my points onto my children and grandchildren.

Wow....reading through this post makes me smile....I was wondering too if I was past the age at which I should be purchasing....I'm 45, partner is 36 though...although when it comes to Disney, he's more like 5....

We bought DVC five years ago when we were 45 and 46. We have been going to WDW since before our youngest son was born. Our kids were teenagers at the time of the purchase and people thought we were crazy!

Our 3 boys are now 24, 22 and 18. We just returned from a vacation at the BC with our two "younger" college boys and their best friends. It's the vacation our kids still love to take with us! It's the best thing we ever did

My husband is almost 48 and practically runs from ride to ride still! He acts like it's his first time every time! He hardly even likes to go back to the hotel and swim for fear he is missing out on something! We always go in August and our son and myself like to go swim during the mid-day. My husband always says, "Okay, if you guys want to waist like three hours!", as he looks at his watch. We always spend at ten days to two weeks there.

Alright! You guys can run from ride to ride while DS and I swim! We are night owls though! We have yet to make it to the EMH in the morning. We always plan to, but we don't ever get to bed before 1:00am-2:00am. We close the parks down! I think the earliest we have ever made it to the parks is about 9:20am! One of these days!

We'll be there July 29th at the BWV!
