Too old to become DVC owner???

I was 52 and DH was 54 when we bought our first DVC. I wish we could have done it sooner, but we're sure happy to have eventually been able to make the purchase. I'm now 57, DH is 59 (for a few more weeks, anyway:) ) and I can't tell you how much we look forward to our 2 trips a year.

I am 53 and my DH is 54 and we are currently awaiting ROFR on a BWV resale. I'm so glad to see someone who bought in at our age and is still enjoying it 5 years later. I was afraid maybe we were too old to be buying in.

We are empty nesters with 2 DS's who are both getting married this year and we are looking forward to taking trips to Disney both by ourselves and with our growing family.

We bought DVC in August 2006 when DH was 45 and I was 44. Our kids are now 22 and 18 and still enjoy Disney trips. We're looking forward to the day we can take grandchildren! :goodvibes

Well this thread answers my question too! We are 52 and 55 with a DS away at college and we just purchased last month. We plan on enjoying it as long as possible and when we are gone or can't enjoy it anymore - it will belong to our son. I wished we could have done it sooner, but now that we can, we plan on enjoying it to the fullest! It's nice to see though that we're not the only "mature" ones...:yay:

We joined in 2003 and we have my name, my partners name and my mum's name on the deeds. Mum was 59 when we signed up and she is determined to get her moneys worth out of her third of the investment. I suspect she will still be joining us going to WDW in 20 years time, if not 30 years.

Why deny yourself something you will enjoy so much. You can always will the deed anyway.

She has told my brother that her 1/3 would be useless to him as we only have 160 points and that it would just be a $ cost each year. She's told him she feels she will have "used" her portion so by the time she croaks its to not be argued about.

Just wondering what the average age of DVC owners are? I'm 47 and husband is 44 with two teenagers, 14 & 16... we are about to take the plunge as soon as we find the right resale. Did we wait too long????

Bought resale in 2006 myself and DW were 44 with two teens, 14 & 16. I thought was we would use it ourselves once kids go to college and than maybe use it with adult children etc...

Turning 49 this year, and DW will be 46 next month. We decided to join DVC when we were there on vacation last July/August. Our oldest had just turned 18 and our youngest just turned 11 last week. The fact that we can leave it for them if we don't survive another 49 years, so they and their families can enjoy, kept the age thing from making a difference to us.

I'm 50, dd is 18 and ds 13. I just bought DVC through a resale last September. Did I wait too long? In a way yes, I wish I had made the leap earlier, but better late than never.

If you two are than so are we!!!:lmao:

DH is 47 and I will be 45 next Friday! DS is 13 and we bought in 2005.

Everyone is a kid at Disney! We can all release our inner child!:rotfl:

LOL, Mike! From the looks of your picture, I think you qualify as young!

That is what I was thinking!! Maybe that picture is about 15 years old and he just wants us to think he is that young looking!:rotfl:
Maybe that's not even a picture of him!:rotfl2:

There is no such thing as too old when it comes to Disney. We joined DVC in '05, I was 35 and the wife was 36 and have loved it ever since. The true joy comes in knowing that my daughters and future grandchildren will always be able to enjoy the magic and awe of Disney, thanks to Disney Vacation Club.

That's for me to know and you to find out! ;)

Never to old. My baby is 37 and we have owned since 2006. I enjoy a solo trip each year and also a trip with a grandchild or two each year. We just could not afford to own sooner so are enjoying as much as we can now. Will I be around to see the end of the contract, most likely no, but that is not a concern no one knows what the next day will bring so if you can go for it.

We were in our mid/late 50's when we bought. When we bought an add on resale that had banked points, we used them for a DCL cruise for DH's 60th birthday!

Been following this thread and now realize there are really three questions being answered here: (a) Are we too old? To which the answer is a resounding no even though some others may believe our actual age indicates otherwise; (b) Are we too old for Disney? To which the answer is that Disney is not just for kids; and (c) Are we too old to buy DVC? Which is of course a question that answers itself when you know the answer to the first two.

We bought about 12 years ago when we were 46 and 43.

Live for today, never too old (especially at WDW!)

Good luck with your decision...

The dynamics of our family changed dramatically. We became grandparents and DGC came in 3 successive 12 month periods and within a very short time after that, the whole family was willing to fly, and spend time in WDW together. So, we have more points than we anticipated buying in '03. I do not think that we will be keeping all of the points until 2042. We are more in the "live for today" mode. We have found firsthand that everyone ages differently, and unexpected things happen. My DMom for whom we began our DVC purchase, cannot travel anymore. She had over 20 nights in various DVC resorts over a 3 year period...now when we mention Disney she smiles and I hope she remembers, but she says "its not for me." She's 88 and when she was 86, we were at VWL with friends, and she told me to "buy 25 points for me, so I can help pay my way when I come." She came for about 12 more days, the following year, '06. I sure wish she could come again with us.
Those 25 points will always be refered to as hers...was she too old? She was 86 and was so happy, she told everyone about Disney timeshares and how she was enjoying them.

Definitely not too old....my DH and I are both 47 yrs old and we bought into Animal Kingdom Villas last year and we have no kids.

Thanks for everyone’s replies….I have found the contract I was looking for and officially made an offer! Now I'm “patiently” waiting! :yay:
