Evening!!! Did everyone have a good 4th? Ours was pretty good. We went to my dad's and ended up not leaving until 1am. My nephew and some of my younger cousins were there so all the kids had a great time. We were able to watch the fireworks from right behind my dad's house so that was cool.

D&D, I think I had Jr this week too. I had such high hopes for him and look what happened. He certainly hasn't impressed me at all since he switched to Hendrick.

Pikester, I won't even comment on the thread you posted about Dan. Let's just say there are too many eyes around. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I've read about the monorail accident and my prayers go out to that young man's family and friends. And from reading a few of the various threads on here about it, I'll just some people need a swift kick in the butt and need to learn compassion.

We had a pretty quiet 4th. We went outside with the watermelon in tow into the blazing Texas sun. DD had laid a blanket out so we could have a picnic... to which she quickly decided was "too pokey in the grass". So we stood around munching on out watermelon slices. Wrapped it up with a seed spitting contest. DD played around in the sprinklers. DH and DS shot off a few firecrackers and we went back into the house to seek refuge from the heat.

On Facebook I got contacted a few days ago from a girl that I went to school with. I thought that was kinda exciting until she started reminding me of things I had forgotten.... like she was the one who played the piano in my first wedding... and did a REALLY crappy job cause she was too busy to take the time to practice! And then she had the gall to remind me that next year will be our 30th High School Reunion! Why did she have bring up something like that? Anyway, seriously, I have been enjoying talking to her. It is a nice surprise when someone looks you up. I am just holding my breath hoping that someone like my ex never looks me up! :scared1:

OMG MK!!! Who the heck does that to a 7 month old?!?! Or any child, for that matter? The poor father must have been beside himself!

We had a good weekend. The kids and I went to a TEA party yesterday (really cool, very educational), and then went to my parents' for a BBQ. Today after church the kids went with the jerk...I mean the ex...and I went to hang out with my sister. We then went to hang out with my BFF, and then had dinner with my parents and my brother. Lots of family bonding. Tomorrow DSis and DMom are coming here for dinner. (Dad has a golf outing). I am making BLT paninnis on my new paninni maker!

I am SOOOOO excited! DD has been invited to tryout for Team New Jersey for the 2010 National Special Olympics summer games in Nebraska! Tryouts are August 8, right in the middle of camp, but my BFF has offered to make the journey up to NY to get her (I will still be in Scotland), and then take her to tryouts (which are just in the next town over). I get home the night of tryouts, so I will take her back to camp the next day. She hasnt made up her mind yet if she wants to do it or not--it is a big commitment, extra training, etc. I hope she does, and I hope she makes the team. But even if she doesnt, it was a great honor just to be asked!

Got a busy week ahead. I will be up in New Haven, CT, with the family Tuesday and Wednesday for my niece's birthday (she is up at Yale at camp). Many appointments this week--doctor, shrink for DS, haircut, ortho for DD, A/C service. Plus I have to pack the kids for camp. I am not sure when I will sleep! Anyway, if i am MIA for a few days, you'll know why!

Good morning everyone! Looks like its going to be a hot one here....yahoo!

Wendy, with all that running around, you are so going to need a drink at the campground! Congrats to DD on being asked to the tryouts! I'm so proud of her too! Good luck with getting all your errands done....

Marie, Facebook is a dangerous thing. I've been contacted by lots of "former" somethings, and while its a bit nervewracking in the beginning, I find that its not some huge commitment, just a little catching up. I'm not as crazy about Facebook as some people I know, but its a nice thing.

I was so ready to watch Big Brother last night, but it starts next week! Duh!

I have nothing else to say except hello to everyone and hope you're having a wonderful day! Talk to you later!

Hello!
whgrn you sure do look busy. Don't wear yourself out before the trip. :3dglasses
mariezp I'll take the pokey grass over the rocks we have (no grass). Found out someone called the police on our neighbors on the 4th. They were shooting off great fireworks. Causing me firework envy. ;) I suspect it was the neighbors they reported for blocking off the public access around their house. We are allowed to shoot off fireworks, we are county not city.

Afternoon!!! Pretty nice day here today. Only in the 70's but no rain at least. DH left for Kentucky this morning. He'll be there until the day before the meet. The only good thing about this is he won't have to work a 1/2 day on the 18th and then drive to Hershey.

I've been reading all the different news stories about the monorail accident and came across this in the Orlando newspaper.

I know there isn't any place in the world that is truly safe but WTH? I have so many thoughts going through my head right now about this. I'm really interested to find out what those five cms saw and if they reported anything before the girl's father complained. It chills me to the bone that the article implied that the cms didn't do anything until the father complained.

marie, I've had quite a few old friends find me on facebook. And quite a few people I barely remember from high school ask to be my friend. I just ignore those people.

wendy :woohoo::woohoo: to DD. That is so great! Let us know what she decides to do.

There was an Amber alert out yesterday for a 7 month old girl who was taken from her stroller at Walmart. She was with her Dad and brother, and the dad was using the self-checkout when she was taken. They closed everything and didn't let anyone in/out for hours. Thank goodness, she was found five hours later, behind Walmart in the woods. She was facedown in the mud, but is expected to be fine. So scary!

 That is horrible! I can't even imagine how awful that father must have felt! Actually, I had my youngest DS at the age of 4 get lost in a Kmart. I was so scared but he wasn't. I was so POd at one of the workers there! Here I was with tears in my eyes not able to find my little boy. I ran up to her and asked her if she had seen a little boy, I described him and she was just like "Nope." and went back to stocking shoes. Witch!

Just tried to post my reply but it wouldn't...thankfully, I copied it before it was lost so here it is again---I hope!

No it's not! Stupid me copied the dumb smilie and so I lost the post...Oh well...not that earth shattering. I'm just home to get the mail and check in here...which is taking a lot longer than I planned! I'm sure mom doesn't miss me as long as the Phillies are winning. She may be napping too...she's tired from her sister's visit. I'll be back Tues.

No time to gloat over the race---GO TONY!

Welcome back and goodbye again!

I really have to start getting packed and organized. Trying to plan a menu for our entire trip, estimate the gas $ we'll need and the places we want to visit that cost $. Got our camp ressies all done and will be saving there, but gee wiz...the cost to ride the Metro in DC is nuts. About $8 per person per day for an all day pass.

Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th!

13 days to go!!!!!

I think the planning is what is killer! I hope you have fun visiting my side of the country. Have lots and LOTS of fun with the TKers! I want to hear all about it.

Hey there D&D....you'll love the Metro! Where are you leaving the car? Do you know which station you'll be at? Some stations have very limited visitor parking, especially during the week. The Metro beats driving in DC any day! And even worse is the parking! You can usually find parking on the Mall, but they're only for 2 hours...

do you know what you want to do in DC? Its actually a really cheap city to visit, especially when you see how vast the Smithsonians are. Are you planning to see the National Zoo? If you have some spare money in your budget, considering the ages of your boys, I'd look into going to the Spy museum. Its lots of fun! And don't bother going to DC's "Chinatown". Its like three stores and an arch near the arena.

I've only been to the Holocaust Museum once, and it was very, very intense. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for younger kids. A lot of people forget to visit the National Archives, its behind the Natural History museum. Its really amazing to see the Declaration of Independence! There always seem to be long lines, but that's just because the inside visitor area is so small. It doesn't take long at all to go through. And Arlington Cemetery is amazing!

I don't know if its still there, but if you visit the National Cathedral, there used to be an ice cream shop on the roof. Beautiful views! Another great spot to see DC skyline is the top of the Kennedy Center, which usually have some great shows for great prices, if not free.

I love DC...look forward to hearing your plans. That reminds me, I have to talk with my younger nephew. He asked his brother what he was going to eat when he was with me, apparently he thought I'd just let him starve!

Thanks Magikitty! Now I have another place to bug DH about visiting!

The thread is locked now so nobody here can go there and post our two cents! :rotfl:

I've gotten some dooseys trying to contact me! I understand someone I use to know wanting to be my "friend" but just because you are a friend of that person does not mean I want to be "friends" with you too.

to your DD! I wish her luck in whatever she decides to do.

Stupid neighbors are always trying to mess with the fun stuff! On the other side of that my DH's Uncle use to live near a family who had 2 or 3 very rowdy sons. Let's just say it wasn't unusual to hear homemade cannon blasts going off in the evenings! ;)

Hi all,
Had another job interview today and have one scheduled for Wed. Barely got home from the first when they called back to schedule a second interview. :banana:Yay! I just hate having to ask friends or mom to watch kids while I go. Seems like I have to do it every day. Good for me cause at least I'm getting calls. Bad cause I hate bothering people to watch my kids. Oh well... shoudn't complaine right. I also shouldn't be on the computer. I should be PACKING and getting organized. Yikes its coming fast.
Although Mom will be staying at our house to watch dog and house while were gone,I can't leave a messy house, so I'll have to find time to clean too. :scared: I'm gonna be stressing.

Pikester - Do you have an electronic pic of Sukie that you could PM me?? I really want her to be part of the flat Tkers, but am worried that regular mail won't get her pic here in time. This week has been crazy busy and next week I will barely be home with all that's going on. Let me know. Don't want to leave her out.

I wasn't sure about PMing the actual picture so I PMd you my email address so that you could send me a "Hello" and then I'll send you the pic. It's really cute!

Seriously, if he wasn't bigger than me, I'd seriously hit my older nephew. After much mumbling and fidgeting, he explained to me that the off-campus housing he had arranged with friends has fallen through. Literally. The house has been condemned. :rotfl2:

So now, six weeks before classes start, my nephew is homeless.

What does he want from his favorite aunt? Can I drive him up to Binghamton to go look at houses? Probably the only smart thing he did about this was work with some sort of housing company (although why they were showing a near-condemned house I don't understand) and they will compensate him for the trouble and help him find another place to live.

We're working out schedules. He so owes me for this. I'm saving his butt. I'm enslaving him to work on stuff around the house. If I weren't so embarrassd about the state of my closet, I'd throw him in there and have him fight his way out.

COngrats D&D on the job interviews!

Hi everyone! How was your Monday?

Good morning! Where is everyone? I hope y'all are doing okay and are just busy enjoying your life.

Today is a bust. Big rain and thunderstorms and its supposed to last all day. Some hail expected too....

Nephew called, quite contrite. He has an appointment to look at houses tomorrow afternoon. I hope the weather is better for it. Binghamton is about 80 miles NW of here and while its a dull drive, it is rather beautiful. Hoping it won't take too long and we'll be home before it gets too dark. Its a truck route, people going up to Syracuse and Rochester, and it can get crazy with big shipping trucks on those curvy roads.

That's all here for the moment....hope everyone is having a great day!

:rotfl2:I say lock him in there until he repairs the closet for you. :rotfl2:
He is so lucky to have an aunt like you Kitty!

Happy Tuesday All!!!

I have the picture of Sukie and will now work on making her part of the Flat Team. :thumbsup2

MagiKitty I think cleaning your closet is good punishment for making you look for housing 6 weeks bfore class starts. Good Luck!, he's going to need it. :wizard:

Kitty is a super aunt for sure.

Yeah for Whgrn's dd! You go girl! Just do your best!

Ok, this is probably going to sound awful but......why did MJ's tribute have to interfere with my soap operas?! I mean seriously! The man was just that, a man. I don't see and other tributes going on for all the other big stars who died recently. And, if they did have to have one believe it or not; not everyone wanted to see it.

Hi, Pikester! I just stopped by and honestly, your post made me laugh!! I didn't watch the tribute, cartoons were on at my house.
