When tipping the mousekeepers....do you do it daily or on the last day? How much have you left in the past?
Also, who else along your travels at the world have you tipped and how much?
Have you ever gotten creative and bought like Mc'd gift cards or something else along those line?
TIA...I'm trying to budget everything in advance.

Housekeeping at WDW is not a tipped position. The only recognized tipped positions at WDW are servers (at buffet and full service restaurants) and hairdressers. Some people find tipping spa workers to be necessary too.

Save your tip budget for the servers who are taxed on a presumptive tip whether they receive it or not.

Whether Mousekeeping is considered a tipped position or not, I still give a daily tip.
I usually give a dollar per person (staying in the room) per day and on the last day, I tip a couple of dollars extra and l always leave a thank you note with each tip.

My DH is weird adn doesn't like to have mousekeeping in, so we do a clean every other day to 2 days...so we usually do $5 each time since it will be a little messier :) I love the fun envelopes from the creatdis'ers - that is probably what got me to tipping, I don't tend to do it other places!! just love the extra magic in disney!!

I usually tip $1/person in the room, plus $1...so for dd and me, $3.

I leave it daily, you never know if it will be the same person all week and if left at the end of your stay, someone who only cleaned one day might short someone who was there more days earlier in the stay.

We print out little envelopes too, it isn't needed, but it adds to our planning fun :wizard:

We also tip the driver on the Magical Express bus. If he gets any bags from under the bus, $1 per bag, but if not, I still give a few $$. Especially if they are fun drivers or do something special. Like on one trip, the driver slowed a little so we could get a picture of the Disney archway. (not so much to be a hazard, just slowed a bit...).

Restaurants - 20%

Airport - $1/bag

:thumbsup2 100% agree and just what I was coming on to say. Believe me Disney has figured the cost of having your room cleaned into your daily rate.

Housekeeping is no more a tipped position than ride operators.

Are you going to carry envelopes and give every ride operator one every time you get on and off a ride?

In all actuality, and from a WDW management perspective you are setting the CM up for breaking policy with Disney.

Just because "everyone does it" doesn't make it right. Disney trains all their staff what they can and cannot accept. Pressuring them to take something, or leaving it without caring for the steps they have to go through is not doing them a favor.

There are actually some people in housekeeping who care enough about their long term employment to turn in the "tips." Who have you helped then?

Do what you will, but don't do it thinking you are helping someone, because you are not.

Without getting into the Disney specific debate...

Our standard tip in a hotel is $3-$5 a day. Our family of 4 includes a baby and a couple of slobs. When it's bad, we go higher. Resist the urge to be "creative" with your tip. This is a total stranger, the only thing you can be certain they will appreicate is cash.

I never knew that housekeeping was not a "tip" position at WDW? Isn't it everywhere else? I don't want to leave the money @ WDW if it is not going into housekeeping's pocket.

I normally leave a dollar per person, or if I request something -like extra cups, I of course leave more. I am a neat freak when staying in a hotel (I even make my bed because I hate being in the room with it messy. :lmao: ) Normally, I just ask for cleaning every 2-3 days. I figure that it would give housekeeping some time off. ;)

BTW-I noticed on my last visit the airport people at the resort were telling guests " I am your baggage handler just like at the airport" and seemed to be trying to point out that they should be tipped. ;) I guess they were getting forgotten?

This is incorrect. Yes they are assumed to have received at least 8% of sales in tips. But if they are a really crappy server and get less than that, if they have kept a record (which they should) they only have to pay tax on the ACTUAL amount they recieved.

I don't tip housekeeping at any hotel. It is not a tipped position at Disney and housekeepers are paid at least minimum wage.

I leave a tip for both business and pleasure. My employer reimburses me for the tip. It goes on my expense report as "hotel maid tip".

Housekeeping is not a tipped position in general AFIK, not just at Disney.

If that was my husband it would be his butt making the bed, straighting up the bathroom etc if he didn't want housekeeping in to do it. No way would I be making a bed on my vacation if I did not have to!

Since tipping housekeepers is standard, until Disney tells me not to, I will continue to leave tips.

Have left tips for more than 30 years - and my mother and father taught me it was proper - and seems to be true (according to articles).

I tip daily, because you never know when the housekeeper is going to have her day off, and I'd hate to wait to tip 'my' housekeeper for the end of the trip and have that be her day off so she gets nothing from me.

As to how much, I generally tip a couple of dollars per day. If we leave a big mess some particular day, I leave a dollar or two extra. If I ever had any special requests, I might leave a dollar extra as well.

Everyone has their own opinion on tipping Mousekeeping. This is mine. As always, YMMV. When visiting The World, we tip a dollar per person, per day. We do leave it daily, to have a better chance that it gets to the person who actually did the work on the room.

As I always say when this topic comes up, I had never heard of tipping housekeeping in any hotel until I started reading the Dis.
