Time for summer reads

Anything by Jodi Picoult - her books are fantastic!

I've read "Plain Truth", "Salem Falls", "The Pact", "My Sister's Keeper", "Vanishing Acts", "10th Circle", "Change of Heart", and right now I'm reading "Mercy". She has several others as well. Great reads.

Also, if you like medical thrillers, anything by Robin Cook or Tess Gerritson.

I agree! I am currently reading Nineteen Minutes--wonderful read!

Im reading Story Telling by Tori Spelling. I actually like the book, im reading it soooooooo fast..

My favorites are by James Patterson...good ones are The Quickie and The Honeymoon...

Um I have to get his new one Sail by JP....after I read Tori Spellings book then I will head to reading Sail.

I started "Cross Country" by Robert Sullivan a couple of days ago. It's very interesting. A man and his thoughts as he drives across the country from Oregon to New York. There's a lot of Lewis and Clark history as well as personal anecdotes. Not really light reading, but I'm enjoying it.

"Bitter is the New Black" by Jen Lancaster... very "SATC" without all the Sex.. just the clothes, etc. And Humor

Haven't started on her next book: "Such a Pretty Fat... or why Pie is Not the Answer".
Love this author!
Perfect Beach read

Keeping those in mind, sounds great!

just started reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini for my senior summer reading book I didn't think it would be a book i'd be interested in but i cant put the book down :]

I just got done reading Odd Hours by Dean Koontz. Not as good as the first 3 in the series but good none-the-less. I also like to read Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb.

I'm reading The Historian right now. It's ok, but I'm anxious to get through it because I have Gone With The Wind on deck and can't wait to dig into that.

Love summertime reading!

I really liked The HIstorian. It was heavy on the goegraphy at times, but it was still good!

mushy and golfgirl- I have had Jonathan Strange on my bookshelf for almost a year. Maybe I'll give it a crack before I resume classes. If nothing else, it will provide a hefty arm workout. That thing is huge!

I finished Julie & Julia last night. It was ok, but I struggled to finish. I think I will try To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, read it in high school, thought I would try a classic. :surfweb:

Garden Spells by Sarah Addusib Allen. You will be sad when you're done reading it. Her second book, Sugar Queen, came out in May. I have not read it but it has received very good reviews.

I just finished "Train from Marietta" by Dorothy Garlock and it was really a great quick read.
First of her books I have read & will be taking a trip to Barnes & Noble tomorrow to check out her other books.

Love story, adventure a little mystery set in 1930's.

I love Dorothy Garlock. She has some really great characaters in her books. Really down to earth and a great easy read. She just walks you right through American history. Most of her books are based around the depression era and her characters make repeating roles throughout her various writings!

ETA: Billie Letts is another great story teller. I just read the honk and holler opening soon. And I read where the heart is some years ago. Check these out if you havent already!

Thanks! What are your favorite Dorothy Garlock books? I didn't realize how many she has had published.

Last night I started "An Unexpected Song" by Iris Johansen, it is okay but nothing like Train to Marietta:)

You might also like to read Janette Oke. She tells a great story from a Christian perspective with a touch of romance. Nothing risky or hot just the softest touch of romance. The way it should be. My 12 year old loves to read her, too.

Now if you want to read something on the other side of the spectrum. JD Robb has a great series "In Death" and Keri Arthur has a series out, Riley Jenson is the main character, that is highly loaded. Both are graphic and I will NOT let my DD12 read!!!

I just returned from camping, and finished 3 books. I can recommend them all.

First was "Somewhere in Time." My favorite movie, and the book was also just as wonderful.

Next: "A Small Death in Lisbon." This one took a while to get into, but once you got going, it was hard to put down.

Last was "The Brief History of the Dead." This one was intriguing. It was a very fast read, and I enjoyed it!

Today I started "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." My mom has been on me for years to read it, and I'm just now getting around to it. I also need to read "Mississippi Trial 1955" for book group this month.

Anyone else have anything new to report?

While you were gone I finished Annie G. Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral and Un-Bridaled. Both very good and Annie is coming to you...you'll have to tell me if you think of the same DDA'ers while reading it.
