Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

I really like the pillow case. :thumbsup2

Question, I didn't pay attention when I purchased the shirts. I so concerned with the 100% cotton. My shirts have pockets. Is there anything I need to do different so that it looks okay?

That's fine if you like the pockets, it should be OK, the cotton part, yes make sure its 100% cotton.

As long the pockets are not in the way, if you want mickey in the center just make sure they're not in the way. You can put the ears on the side if that's the case.

I tie dyed DS13's volleyball teams shirts today.. they are in plastic bags "stewing" tonight.. I will wash and hang dry tomorrow... but I have decided to leave this to the professional as I didn't do well.. or at least I don't feel like I did a good job.. we shall see tomorrow... DS13 likes them... and he helped! (no mickey heads as the team wanted to be able to wear them later).. what like you can't wear mickey ears any time?

:rotfl2: I would wear Mickey heads all the time. :thumbsup2

Need to get my Cricut to cut a Mickey head so I have template to use. I may draw and baste them during the game tonight. :)

I am doin mine 2morrow... I used the cricut to cut a mickey head and then i basted them and rubber banded the mickey head... do i soak them i soda ash and then rubber band them and dye them when they are wet from the soda ash?

I have two quick questions.

1. How do I bast? Do you use a thread/floss and needle to make stitches? Or do you gather the head up, put the thread/floss around the lines and tie it off?

2. Can someone send me a template for the Mickey head? We wanted to do this over the Easter weekend, but I have not been able to get a hold of a template. I have tried to recreate one, but it just doesn't look right.

I know, what's up with that, Lime green mickey should be a must :thumbsup2

My DH made one the other day just to practice, no mickey, must tie dye and he did pretty good.

Yes, you mark mickey on the shirt, then do the basted, pull the string really good, tie the Mickey and you can soak them after that, DO NOT RINSE THEM, they must be wet, you can wring them with your hands to remove the excess of water but they MUST be wet. Then tie them and dye 'em.

You make it like regular basting - - - - - - - - - something like that.
Some people use floss and that works fine, I use thread and a regular needle.
Then when you done with the basting you pull the string and gather the mickey head.
I no longer have a template, but go to google and type Mickey head or mickey ears template and there are tons on photobucket and other websites.

PixieDust:

Thanks! The die kit I bought from Michael's is made by Tulip. It doesn't say anything about soaking it in ash water. It says for a wet method to wash the article first, then use straight from the washing machine and tie die. Is it necessary to soak the shirts in ash water? What exactly does it do?

Those kits have the soda ash already in the dye. I normally soak all my shirts even when I used tulip, but if you don't have the soda ash, then don't worry. If you want brighter colors with the tulip, fill the bottle 3/4 instead of the whole thing.

I never pre wash my shirts, some people do and it works fine.

Do you always add salt to the final wash? Does this help set the colors? How much salt do you use? Thank you!!!!!!!

okay iv been practicing and these were made from tulip dyes but i ordered dharma dye. i have a question though... how do you know how much dye to add to the bottle. I got a 2 oz container of various dyes...

You can find the instuctions on the dharma web site, but the regular dyes, not the ones that have a * next to the name, like yellow, red, orange etc.. Its one teaspoon per 4 oz, basically one of the little bottles from the tulip kit, those are 4 oz, so you pour one teaspoon and fill it with water.

The colors like turquoise and other blues the have one * then its 2 teaspoons per every 4 oz.

The dyes with ** its like the black, navy etc. those are 4 teaspoon per 4 oz.
