Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Newest creation. The color of this dress is more green like Jade green but it looks blue on the pic. :confused3

I was in Walmart today and in the girl's department they had some adorable white cotton tiered dresses. I picked up two of them in my girls' sizes. They are 100% organic cotton and cost $6. As soon as I get some free time, I am going to experiment on them to see how a dress would turn out.

I did this last weekend and it turned out adorable. It is hands down my DDs fav of all the "projects" we did!!! We did her dress and 6 other shirts!!!

Good Luck and have fun!!!:woohoo:

Awesome! :thumbsup2 Glad ya'll had fun. Share your pictures if you like :cheer2:

I bought some dye from Dharma and my nieces brought over some dye from Tulip and Rainbow Rock. All white, 100% cotton shirts were washed together using synthropol and soaked in soda ash. The differences in the dyes on the finished shirts were amazing! The Dharma dyes are SO much more vibrant! :worship: If I can get the girls to bring their shirts back to me I'll post pictures, but I wanted to share my experience with these dyes--I learned that I've wasted a lot of money on Tulip and Rainbow Rock in the past as I've dyed a lot of shirts for my son's classes (I started in kindergarten and now we're up to the fourth grade).

The hard part with using Dharma--which dye color do you choose? :lmao:

Thanks Pixie for sharing all that you do with us! :) You're a great inspiration!

I'll see if I can post pics. I have to convince hubby to put them in a photobucket account!!!:lmao:

Or create a new ticker I guess!!!:rotfl:

We did have fun and I was happy with the results!:thumbsup2

The primary colors always look awesome.

Okay, so after two months of contemplating, I finally took the plunge and tried my hand at tie dye. My DD19, and I spent the evening dying seven shirts, one dress, three drawstring bags and some shoelaces. (She should have been studying for her upcoming college finals, but DS9 was spending the night at a friend's house, so it was a rare opportuninty to finish them without constant chatter! :)) No one told me how exhausting it was, but loads of fun! I can't wait to unwrap them tomorrow evening and see how they came out. I think some of the them might be okay, but a couple might have issues.

Glad to hear that it turned out so well. We could not work on the project this weekend because my older daughter was camping with her GS troop. Hopefully next weekend we will be able to get to them.

I just unwrapped and rinsed our shirts. They all came out great! I'll post pictures as soon as they come out of the dryer.

Here a couple of pics for more inspiration...

Ok, what is your technique for getting such a tight spiral? My kids LOVED doing the shirts & now want to do more with different colors from Dharma! Even my 17 & 13 yo DSs!! I'm off to figure out how to post pics, now, but our spirals didn't come out nearly this nice. It looks like you maybe used the colors in smaller sections?

Ok, so here are our creations. I did the Mickey heads then spiraled the shirts & let each kid color their own. Even the 2 year old!! :scared1: Plus, they each did a plain spiral shirt. DD9 did a Mickey head shirt & then a dress from Walmart with Mickey. (It's on the far left) I think I need a few more dresses! Too cute! :woohoo: The baby's shirt got gum on it in the wash. :confused3 Now I have to figure out how to get that out. (freezing didn't work)

I made these shirts for our trip in 2006, I believe. I swore I'd never do them again (I hate the sewing part!), but I'm starting to get the urge to make more! (the last few trips I just did regular old tie-dyes, with no mickeys) What's the fabric resist for? I was pretty happy with how mine came out last time, but but I always like a good tip to make things easier! Where does everyone buy their dyes? They used to sell the powdered dyes at AC Moore, but I can't find them any more. Is there a good online source for the Dharma dyes?

You guys did awesome! Good job and thanks for sharing. ♥

@Lori --I really don't have any technique or anything special I just twist it :confused3 sometimes i do small lines sometimes, all depends on how you want the shirt to look. Thanks for your comments ♥ Maybe try to make it tighter :thumbsup2
