Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

I've got another question. I just finished sewing my first mickey head, but when I try to pull the dental floss, it doesn't really pull. The ears have kind of puckered up, but I can't get the rest to do anything. I don't know if I did it too tight or what. :confused3 Any suggestions?

Wow we got TONS of comments/compliments and even offers for our shirts! Thanks Pixie and all for the inspiration. And to those of you that think yours did not "turn out" Tie Dye is forgiving! Mine certainly did not turn out like I intended, but I grew to love them lol

Hi,I don't know what to tell you, I had never used dental floss, im not a big fan since is not easy to work with, it can make holes to the fabric. Hope someone that had used it can help you.

What do you use in place of denal floss? I was thinking you had to use it.

I did finally get it to pull, but it doesn't really look like a mickey head now. Is that normal? Sorry for all the questions.

Some people use dental floss and it worked fine for them, I had never used it.I use thread, silk thread is good because is very strong, but it wouldn't rip your clothes and make holes like the dental could.
When you pull it it doesn't look like a Mickey because the fabric is all crunch up.

I've used unwaxed, unflavored dental floss, which BTW is actually hard to find, and it worked fine. It's strong enough so that when I'm tightening it I don't feel like it's going to break but once the shirt is dyed and then washed, there are no holes in the shirt from the floss. I'm doing 2 more shirts this week so I'll post pictures once I'm done. They're matching my shirt from before for a Disney scavenger hunt my friends and I are doing in 2 weeks, MouseAdventure.

Here's my shirt:

Your shirt looks great :lovestruc :thumbsup2 Like I sad before I had never used floss so I don't know how it would work, I just heard other people mentioned that it had made holes :confused3
Maybe you can give the other lady more accurate advice than me :flower3:

Thanks and have fun making your shirts :hippie:

I just finished tie dying my shirts and have them in plastic bags. I can't wait to see how they come out!

Finally got our shirts done! They came out pretty good considering it was my first time.

I'm trying to decide if I want to try and go over the Mickey Heads with a bleach pen. I'm a little worried that I might mess them up. I think my dh's (blue mickey head) needs it more than the other 2.

Sorry the pics are so big. Not sure how to resize them.

So I finally got to the second set of Mickey shirts late last week. I am very happy with how they turned out. My younger daughter and I added some heat set crystals around the Mickeys and they look great! My shirt's Mickey turned out a little funky but that's ok. I am much happier than I was with the first set. The colors are so much better and there is so much less white left.

My girls wanted hearts on the dresses instead of the Mickeys so that's what we did. Then I used spray glitter around the hearts. It looks super cute!

Those look great. Where did you find the white dresses? My dd would love one!
