Usually I use the scent free bottle of All, but, my oldest DS has uniforms that look absolutely tragic, so I’ve been washing them in Tide Original for the past year.

Anyway, I picked up a new bottle last night and upon starting the washer, got a overwhelming scent of bug spray.. like Raid. Not only that, but when the wash was done, the smell hadn’t diluted at all.

I ended up re-running the wash with no soap, and that brought it down a decent bit.

The reason I’m posting, is it’s obvious I can’t use this Tide anymore. What do you guys all use? I need something for very tough stains, that isn’t Oxiclean (allergic) and not so overpowering.

Is there a spray that’s really good for grass stains maybe? I’m open to any suggestions.

We have used the Tide pods for years, and I have noted a similar change in their smell recently, really a pretty overwhelming and unpleasant smell instead of the traditional Tide aroma. Something is definitely different about them.

ds and i can't deal with scented products so for the regular wash i use arm & hammer powder-unscented. for dd's 'uniform' (work-black pants/colored polos) i use woolite dark liquid and pretreat stains w/spray and wash as well as rubbing a stain stick across them.

I use Tide. I prefer the clean breeze scent but have been using Free and Clear. Never had a problem with bug killer smell.
I use Clean Breeze as well. I like it because it’s much more subtle than the Original Tide. My DD uses Original and while I find it stronger I’ve never noticed a bug spray smell either.

I use liquid not pods. I’ve tried a succession of other brands and always go back to Tide so I am no help.

Tide clean breeze liquid, it's a very light pleasant scent.
I always use less than the recommended amount because I don't like residual laundry detergent of any kind left in my clothes.

I switched to Persil. I think it's better than Tide. I only used Tide before the switch.

You don't have to use a fabric softener in the wash. I just use Bounce in the dryer. I always used fabric softener in the wash when I used Tide. I look at it as I'm saving money by using this premium brand instead of Tide.

Persil is fine.
Not sure why you used liquid fabric softener with Tide. It's an unnecessary expense to me.
I've always just used Bounce in the dryer with either Persil or Tide.

LOL Probably because my Mom always did and no one ever told me that I didn't have to use it. I was expressly told this about Persil.

That’s pretty alarming. Have you tried contacting Procter & Gamble about that smell? Either by email or maybe on theirFacebook page?

Run to Walmart and pick up a bottle of Febreze FABRIC, Free Nature Unscented. This stuff is fantastic for removing scents & smells and NOT leaving a lingering odor. It smells a little chemically while being sprayed. But, in 10 min as the clothes dry, it leaves absolutely NO scent. I'm currently stocked up with 4 bottles, I love this stuff so much

Make sure it's the Free Nature UNSCENTED. There is also a HEAVY DUTY version in the same white spray bottles that has a scent. :crazy2:

I'm wondering if it has to do with the move to make the pods less attractive to kids eating them?

I use all fragrance free products, including Downy only with specific items I feel require it, which is incredibly rare. I regularly use white vinegar, which takes odors out wonderfully.

I hated when Tide Cold water changed their scent a few years ago but honestly it didn't smell like Raid. I would take it back in a heartbeat!
