Only in the south is every single soft drink a "coke." In Pittsburg (where the flashbacks are supposed to occur), I'm pretty sure it is not. And diet coke means exactly what I think it means. In fact, Pittsburg they probably don't even say "soda;" more likely "pop" for generic carbonated beverages, especially in that time frame.

I'm not in the South and I know plenty of people who refer to any carbonated beverage as a coke. Most likely it is a timeline snafu on the part of the writers but in the grand scheme it's not that big of a deal IMO. As a PP mentioned they're trying to establish a bigger issue with that scene. Why Rebecca is the way she is, how she possibly unintentionally did the same thing to Kate.

I'm not picking on you, but being a Pittsburgh gal...just wanted to note that Pittsburgh has an H at the end!!

Anyway, we don't say soda, we say pop. And yes, pop means everything cola related. If we want a sprite/7up then we say the name (Sprite) but if we want cola, we just say pop. Sometimes if a restaurant/bar has both Pepsi and Coke they will ask which one you want, but if you just say "Ill take a pop" then you will get a cola.

The thing that bugged me the most about last night's episode was Olivia. Not just because I don't like her and didn't want her to ruin Kevin and Sloan's thing (although, I knew that was inevitable), it's how poorly written that was to take this character who was very much a certain type of person and then think we could believe that in one month she has changed so dramatically? I believe they can pull that off with some types of characters/personalities, but not with the type of person they portrayed Olivia as before this. No way would that kind of person do a 180 in one month's time. It was just odd to me.

What did I miss in the beginning that Jack's dad was so upset with the mom about? I could tell he was degrading her and probably did that all of the time because he's an awful person, but what specifically happened that he was upset about -- did they say?

No, they didn't say, they just jumped right into the fight.

I don't know that I believe Olivia changed, I think if she had changed to such a great person she would have just bowed out when she saw they were together and that Sloan was in the show.

Ok, not to be too much of a geek about this, but I think they are off on the whole "diet coke" thing in this show. The kids are supposed to be 36 right? Which means they were born (assuming this is reasonably real time), in 1980 or so, right? 1980 plus 36 years equals 2016. Maybe 1979? So, this show with mom at lunch would be either 1978 or 1979 most likely. And, what do you know, they are ordering a diet coke. Except diet coke wasn't marketed until July 1982. So, there you go. Not possible. LOL. It was bugging me that it was out of sequence with real events of that time. I don't remember being "obsessed" with diet vs. non-diet drinks when I was in high school or even college which got me thinking that there must not have been diet drinks (other than Tab, remember that?) during that time. And, sure enough I was right.

ETA: This also fits with the idea that they were conceived during the Super Bowl, in January 1979. So born in late 1979. Impossible for that to have been diet coke.

This isn't their only goof. You hear it here in Kentucky quite a bit, mostly in the smaller towns, but south of us in Tennessee, everything is a Coke.

I lived in Michigan (it was Pop there) and Ohio (Pop and soda) and never heard anything other than Coke called Coke.

That jumped out at me right away. Diet Coke came out while I was away at school so I remembered the timing and knew this was too early for Diet Coke. I'm surprised they missed that.

Oh, I definitely agree with you about the aggravation! I was growling when my cable kept cutting out and I was left staring at a black screen. LOL! Definitely a first world problem.

I loved tonight show so much. I was so happy that Tony was okay. I loved his proposal to Kate!! I loved the backstory of the how they got the house I loved Randall telling William that this was their family and they would work it out together. I'm not happy Olivia back, I hate that Sloan was upset. Happy to see Dr K next week!!!

No, Kate never said she decided not to have the surgery. I also think the gastric bypass is a little different than an operation to fix a hole in your heart, so no, I don't think she was being a hypocrite.

Technically no she hasn't decided. But there have been recent pictures of her (as recent as a week ago) and it's clear she didn't get the surgery. She has also been telling people that her contract didn't require her to lose weight, only to go on a "weight loss journey." So I believe the answer is: She's not going to do it.

My dd-22 really cannot stand Kate and said she is very desperate. I don't mind Kate and know she has her own issues.
I told my dd her weight stems from much more but maybe my dd just doesn't get it yet.

I agree with your dd about not liking Kate, but not for the reason she states. I actually don't think Kate is the desperate one, to me, Toby is EXTREMELY DESPERATE. He acts so needy and I really can't stand him.

I just loved William and Randall's talk. Unfortunately, it just makes me think William will die next week. I love seeing dr. K. I didn't know they would go into his backstory. That actor is really good.

Just watched the latest episode (I ordered the season on amazon when it first came out, so watch it the day after is airs). I didn't think Toby would die and was happy to see he didn't. Olivia's wig was awful - they could have done way better with that... what was with the random longer pieces left uncut? I think her character could be interesting and I'd like to see more of how she grows (hopefully) into a better person. Sad to see the scenario with Sloane - I relate a lot more to her in so many ways.

Randall remains my favorite character on the show. I just love him!

I took her bad haircut to be a hack job she did herself. Kind of like if she was super mad and upset and did it as a spur of the moment thing in her bathroom lol
