Oh well, I guess we can wait a little while.

Had a lovely time at the wedding, but came home with two kids (niece & nephew for the night).

Any pictures (of the wedding...not necessarily the niece and nephew)???

Glad you had a good time. It was a perfect day here for it. If you dont mind my asking, where did they get married? I am just a curious person.

I'm gonna (try) take some time when writing the HK one. It's gotta last for 18 months before Sep 2013. :sad2:

11 or 12 days, depending on whether you count travel time or not. But we're away for 11 nights.

No pics of the wedding, I forgot to take any. The wedding and reception was at a church just out of Sutter Creek.

My DD (25yrs) was such a dork last night when she came by she thought someone came in a stole one of our tables by our front door since it was missing. Of course someone would just steal a table.:confused3

I took 3 tables up to my Aunt last Monday so they could use them at the wedding, the one DD was worried about was used for the guest book.:rotfl:

I know you get alot of vacay over there, are you breaking some of it up?

I get 5 weeks vacay and about 5 or 10 days worth of sick leave (can't remember which). I've also worked for over 10 years for my current company, so I have 3 months long service leave accrued as well.

I don't have a timeframe as to when I need to take my leave. Right now I'm sitting on about 7 weeks annual leave and about 5 weeks sick leave. I haven't taken any of my long service leave yet.

Did you like the dress? Sutter Creek sounds nice. I've been to Sacramento and been to Sutter Fort. Is it named after the same John Sutter?

Holy moly! You get compensenated well. After working 8 years you stil only got 2 weeks.

Her dress was very beautiful and I think she found it in a shop nearby. Yes Sutter Creek is named after John Sutter, but it's a small town in the foothills about an hour east of Sacramento, in Amador County. I have quite a few realatives up that way.

My mom had 4 sisters and 3 brothers, she was the oldest and I'm the oldest of the grandchildren. The one that was married today is the youngest of the grandchildren, so when we get together we're a large group with many little kids too. There were at least 3 to 4 generations in many of the extended families there today.

I have 31 years in and I think I have about 4 weeks of vacation and 28 or 29 weeks of sick leave balance on the books.

4 weeks is standard here, irrespective of years of service. 5 weeks was a quirk of my company when I started. Not that I'm complaining.

We can thank the unions for the work/vacay conditions. They used to be very strong in every work place.

We get 5 weeks of vacation after 15 years, so I can't wait until my DH starts to accure it at the same rate I do in a few more years.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people I work around have so few hours left on the books, that would make me too nervous. You never know when something major could come along and you'd need those hours.

Do you have work/salary insurance? Is this a concept that exists in the US?

The white collar workers - most of them with home mortgage... the banks almost insisted that they purchase income protection insurance before they would loan them money to buy a house. The trigger for the banks was if the person was asking for more than 90% of the purchase price. Some banks took it down towards the 80% mark if they thought you were a potential credit risk.
