Hrm.

I know I start way too many posts like that, but I'm trying not to be at a loss for words here.

I like the Beach Club. I really do...the atmosphere is much lighter, more upbeat, and well, the design team really got in on target (more, i think, than in 90% of the Disney Resorts). In the individual rooms, the decor is definitely up to that of, say, a really nice Hyatt Regency (example: the one at Orlando Airport), but in some rooms, the general newness level is less prevalent. Not to say any of the rooms resemble anything close to a "dump", but to my approximation, 10% of the guest rooms, including those smaller inside corner rooms with double beds, are not worth up to $400 per night. Period.

Eh...this isn't just the case with the Beach Club, either. The Contemporary and Coronado Springs both seem to be under a good deal of scrutiny, for a much bigger percentage of their rooms seems to not live up to guests' expectations or the price at which they're set.

If you want to get the most out of your Beach Club stay, the name of the game is room requesting. Check the section I've got on the first page for more.

I know a lot of people who have have nothing but stellar reviews of the Yacht & Beach, and with all hotels you're going to have to expect a mixed bag when it comes to opinion.

My feeling is that you should go for it, but make sure you have your room requests locked in. They're not guaranteed, but they do carry some weight with the magic makers behind the front desk.

Have fun,

JC

Hello!!!......Okay need some help here...Which rooms are good choices to stay in at BC (standard or water view).....Prefer rooms with two queen size beds, a little larger (no small or short rooms).....Be specific, give room #s please so I can request....Also what's the ticket on requesting a clean bedspread and linens, should it be done w/room request or upon arrival (arriving at BC early before official check-in time)....Lastly, what about the BCVs...are they finished yet, maybe I'll try to book one of them?....THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY ASSISTANCE OUT THERE!!!

Hi Tresey and welcome to the DIS. This is a great place for information.

As to your question regarding specific room numbers and views for BC, you should check Joe's BC Floor plans. They are very informative.

Disney tends to frown upon requesting specific room numbers, so you will be doing much better by requesting a type of room (i.e. non-smoking, two queens, standard view).

I would send a fax to the hotel a day or two before your arrival requesting your room desires and a complete change of bed linens. When you check in, have a copy of the fax with you and reiterate the need for fresh linens.

Hope this helps.

Linda

We just got back from the BC yesterday and LOVED the resort! Thank you Joe Cool for all the info on room requesting... we were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade. :)

We booked a standard view room and I requested no construction, non-smoking, King bed and full balcony.

We ended up in room 3727, which is technically a water-view room - although we couldn't see much water (glad we didn't pay extra for that view) but at least we didn't look at the Villa construction. The room was larger than a standard room, with two small balconies. The bed was a SICO king and of course it was a non-smoking room.

We did not fax our requests before we arrived... and actually we think our upgrade had more to do with the fact that the hotel was not completely full.

Thanks again for all the info!! :)

We'll be arriving at WDW in 10 days and will be staying at the Presidential Suite at the YC. I am very excited about the trip as we (2 adults and 2 children) will be staying with friends. I have never stayed at the YC, not to mention their concierge level and am looking forward to it. Our friends swear by the concierge staff at the YC and they have stayed at GF, Poly, BC, WL, CR, and AKL concierges. My wife stayed at the YC in May (with our friends) and also comments what wonderful people the concierge staff are. We have exchanged emails with the concierge staff over the past few months and it sounds like they are extremely professional and courteous.....and genuinely looking for us to arrive. I guess I'll be able to make up my own opinions in 10 days or so....will let you know!

GenePA - could you please post the email for the YC concierge?
I will be there the first week of December and I'd like to start corresponding with them. Since I live overseas it may take longer for me to get whatever they send out, so their email would really help - thanks in advance!

Thanks, Linda!

Yea, I would just follow our guidelines for room requesting if I were you.

JC

JC, I KNOW THIS HAS PROBABLY BEEN ASKED A MILLION TIMES, BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU GET A DISCOUNT ON RESERVATIONS (YACHT CLUB) WHEN YOU HAVE AN ANNUAL PASS? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

EGOLIAK yes - and iit is substantial - look at page one.

Steve

Steve......looking forward to that trip report. I've got 62 more days and I'll be at the YC. Staying concierge for the first time.

Egoliak.....I got a very, very substantial AP discount on our rooms at the YC. We booked two of them on the concierge level.

GenePA.....WOW the Presidential Suite !!!! Lucky you !!!! When I was helping Joe with the room layout graphics, I was drooling over those suites. Make sure you tell us all about it.

Can't wait !!!!!!

The BC Concierge was under refurbishment - i understood it would reopen Oct.1
Anyone know if it did reopen and if so, how is it?? Today is the day I have to get my deposit in if I want to keep my reservation for a room there in December! I also have a reservation at YC Concierge.. I was waiting on info on the BC before making a final decision...
Can anyone comment on the differences between the 2 and whether the BC concierge is now greatly 'improved' because of the refurbishment?

I just returned from Beach Club today. We were on the 5th floor. No Concierge. They said they don't have an exact date when it will re-open it depends on the demand for it, probably during the holiday.

We just returned from the YC conceirge. We had originally booked a water view conceirge room for 2 nights. We were splitting our stay between the All-Star Movies and the YC. We were surprised at check-in when the CM told us they had upgraded us to a suite. We were in the Commodore suite room 5207. We were thrilled with the room! My DH and I took the king bedroom and our 3 children slept in the room with 2 queen beds and a daybed. We couldn't believe how much space there was, especially after staying in the All- Stars for 2 nights. We extended our stay for one additional evening but the suite was booked so we moved to room 4085. We were pleased with the upgrade and the conceirge service. We were also invited to an informal breakfast with the YC GM and staff one morning.

Wow Ladygator.....congrats on getting such a wonderful surprise!!!!

DH and I have a res. for two concierge rooms at YC from 12/7-12/16. DH's parents will be in the other room.

Can't wait to be "Pampered" :p

Hello all-

I just posted this same (general) message on the "all resorts" board, when I meant to do so here. My apoligies if you are reading this twice. I've finally got the hang of this.

Okay. I am booked at the BC Concierge the second week of Nov. I understand the lounge there is closed, and BC guests use the YC lounge. I've stayed at BC before, and this seems very inconvenient to me. If I have to walk all the way over to the other side of the resort, this doesn't seem like much of a perk. How bad is it?

I spoke this morning w/CR and they said the lounge is opening Nov. 1. It was originally Oct.1, and then Oct. 8, so I don't know how much I'm holding my breath.

I e-mailed the Concierge some ressies and questions last week, and they have yet to reply. It's been about 3 days. Doesn't that seem like a long time? I would think they would acknowlegde it at least.

If there are any post-9/11 visitors out there, I would really appreciate your feedback. The doubts I have about the BC Concierge, coupled with the cut-backs at the parks I am reading about on other boards, has me thinking of postponing my trip. What do you think?

Thanks!

I emailed them yesterday about my trip on 10/24 and haven't heard anything yet.

I just talked to CRO and they stated that the concierge lounge will not open until November 1. I had them rebook me into the Yacht Club concierge for the same dates and same price. I would not wait until you get there to switch. Call now and ask them to switch you.

Hey eunbee (what does that mean, anyway?)!

Thanks for the advice. I did just that, and didn't get far. I have a 1BD suite booked, and they don't have a comperable one available at the YC, or any deluxe resort, for that matter. I offered to change my travel dates, and they have a YC suite a couple of weeks later, but it's $25 more per night.

However, they won't give it to me at my original BC rate - and we are only talking a difference of $25 per night. This is for a room originally booked at $465!

Although they will upgrade me IF POSSIBLE when I get there, they won't guarentee that. But they also won't guarantee I will get the accommodations and amenities at the price I was reserved at last spring!

The CM at CRO was very helpful, she tried her hardest, I really do believe. We were on the phone for an hour and a half. She called a supervisor at the YC, and he wouln't budge on the rate. Supposedly a lot of people are trying to weasel good deals out of them since 9-11, and they are holding the line.

I am so frustrated! I don't feel I'm being unreasonable. I'm going to try again tonight with a CROsupervisor, mayde she'll carry more clout, but I'm not hoping for too much. Has anyone had any luck?

OF INTEREST TO ALL!!! I was told that the BC lounge was originally closed due to refurbishment, but has yet to re-open because the construction is unsightly and the noise is so bad. I don't know why they are expecting the guests to tolerate ugle views and noise in their rooms, but not in the lounge!
