tresey -

hi! :) i made wdtc ressies in march (with deposit) at the bc and switched to cro/ap rate in i think june. they were credited back to our credit card - NO PROBLEM. :) it may take longer if you did it by check, but ours took 1 billing cycle.

I have just spent 10 days and 9 nights at the YC and it was my first time at this resort. The resort itself is very nice and attractive. For me, I felt the atmosphere was a 'bit stuffy' but most cast members and vacation folks were pleasant and fun. I have never stayed at the Beach Club either but find being there a bit more relaxed atmosphere. I think it may be just me but I really have a calm feeling at the Beach Club and a feeling that I may not belong at the Yacht Club.

We stayed at the Presidential Suite and it was awesome! I think there may be more living space in this suite than there is in my house. We stayed there with friends and it was pretty cool, overall. The suite itself is on the fourth floor and one of its rooms is in the turret of the YC.....the room above is the Admiral Suite. Both suites are comparable with the Admiral being a bit brighter and has more furniture for seating. There were 2 1/2 baths with the master bath and bedroom being quite impressive...with a king size bed, balcony, jacuzzi, separate tub & shower, and other features. There was a large living room, family room, dining room......each could easily entertain 10 people. Balconies everywhere that overlooked Crescent Lake and provided an excellent view of Illuminations at EPCOT. In addition to our bedroom, there was also kitchen area....which included small refrigerators and a microwave. My family slept in an adjoining room which was a normal YC room with two queen beds, vanity, and full bath.

The concierge staff and itinerary planners at the YC were excellent. We were greeted when we drove up to the resort by the itinerary planners and they were there when we checked out. Our suite had everything imaginable and if it didn't have it, they would get it. The staff on the concierge floor (5) was also very attentive to what we desired. By the way.......there was a previous post a few weeks back about a wash cloth in the tree outside the concierge lounge.....and guess what, it was still there! I mentioned this to the staff and it was removed within an hour (as they needed the tree pruners to reach it).

The concierge lounge was nice but the overall layout was a bit crowded. I have only stayed at the AKL concierge prior to this and found their lounge must more pleasant and adequate for lounging and eating. The food variety was comparable, with YC having an overall better selection at the dinner hour (mostly appetizers) but the rest was pretty similar.

The one difference I gathered between the two concierge levels was the servIce. The YC concierge staff is obviously more experienced and professional. I have nothing negative to say about the YC concierge group....and their itinerary planners are even better!

I am more than willing to answer any questions anyone may have but was overall pleased with my YC experience. The resort itself is not my favorite but my time there was very enjoyable.

how nice for both of us - you had a great trip, and i feel reassured of having a happy visit next month.

presidential suite - pretty impressive!

i've been reading on several boards a lot of complaints from recent visitors. they were unhappy with the shortened hours and attractions at the parks (days w/o parades?), plus they felt the service at the resorts was not up to snuff.

please tell us about the crowds, the construction, and how post 9-11 WDW compares to previous trips. were the itinerary planners pretty much able to accomidate your requests?

you say the YC isn't your favorite... is this just b/c of it's formal feel, or other things, too?

thanks for the feedback!

Hey y'all,

Orky, ya, I'm not exactly loving it, but i think i'm getting through. Our prof just assigned this huge ugly at-home lab assignment, on conservation of energy. Gaaah! That's due in 6 days, but then there's the bigger, scarier take-home EXAM that's due next Monday... that counts as 30% of my grade!!!! :( I got an 84 on the last exam, and I've been getting B's and C's in the labs (except for the last one, where my friend and I accidentally turned in a copy of the same paper we worked on, so we both got zeros). Uh huh...

Well, folks, seems we've all got consensus on the fact that Disney HAS created two of the coolest, nicest hotels in the country, granted that some aspects of them may not adhere to the tastes of some. That nonwithstanding, the Yacht & Beach are still my faves, and I've even stayed at the GF Concierge. Someone once called it, "The Architecture of Reassurance". Especially poingant these days...I guess the whole New England waterfront brass-buttons-and-sand-between-the-toes thing just clicks in my mind, anytime. Not to mention that we did have really good experiences with the cast members...from the first guy at the front desk to the bellman on our last day, I found myself in casual conversation with almost all of these really...accessible people. Just a week ago, I was at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia; their staffers act like they own the place. Five star hotel my ***...anyway, it's still Disney.

My advice to y'all who don't find the Y&B to your tastes: really think about an atmosphere where you could find yourself in on a daily basis. Then, look at all the Disney hotels in a clump, check out pictures and our online FAQ forums, then visualize yourself there. Next, add the factors that you want to have in a "good" hotel, bare bones here, no purple dragons (to coin a phrase). THEN, put your mind completely at ease, if you can, add a dash of Disney magic (first-timers, if you forget the theme-parks-and-kids-stuff mythos for a sec you'll know what I mean), and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, there you, um, goo. :D What you're left with is a range of two or three hotels on-property that you could have the best time at. Don't forget practical stuff like the parks you want to be near (if you're into that sort of thing), restaurants, and pools.

At any rate, short-term worries about little things in the Yacht & Beach Club shouldn't detract from the overall Disney-ness of the whole experience, except if you (and the CM's) are having a really bad day.

Thanks for sticking around, everyone, let's keep this place movin'. I may not be back here for over a week or two, but I'll keep an eye out online. Adios amigos,

JC

Hey Nigel-Bigel, let me see if I can address a few of your questions/concerns.

First of all, I like the Yacht Club and the CM's were great! The resort itself comes across as a bit more formal than I prefer. I could say the same thing for the GF.....you know, it is just not my style.......though not to take anything away from the resort and the people who love it!

The crowds at WDW actually surprised me a little bit...by being as crowded as they were! During the week, the crowds were manageable but larger than I really expected. Most rides had waits that ranged from 0 - 15 minutes in the mornings and maybe went up to 0 - 30 minutes by the height of the afternoon. During the weekends I found the parks pretty crowded.....maybe it is the locals visiting the parks but I'm not sure. Blizzard Beach was very crowded the Friday I was there. I was particularly bummed at the crowds at EPCOT this past Saturday for the start of the Food & Wine Festival. I prolonged my trip by a day so I could be there for this but the crowds were too big (in my opinion) and I wasn't anxious to stand in lines for 30+ minutes at various stands to get food/drink selections. Also, I heard the YC was almost filled to capacity the week we were there but this week it was supposed to be fairly empty. Anyway, my experience showed that crowd levels may be getting better for Disney but the weekends were probably more of local visitors than anything. (By the way, we went to Islands of Adventure on Wednesday, 10/17, and it was not crowded at all.....much less than the Disney parks. Waits here were generally 10 minutes max. It was my first time here and we really enjoyed this park.....much more than the original park).

The shortened hours may be an issue….park hours changed on 10/21/01….the day we left. I think even more so will be the dropping of early entry at the parks. I haven’t been on the boards much but was that announced here? To us, it was not an issue but as time moves on, it will be…….I’m sure!

The construction was evident at the Beach Club (for the villas) and it was ongoing. Staying at the YC though, it was not a bother to me…..I just noticed by driving by the BC. There was also construction that was evident over at the Boardwalk….not sure what they were doing there.

The itinerary planners we dealt with…..Dane & Kathryn…..are outstanding. They can make anything you want to happen and I was ever so impressed by their service. They both have great senses of humor and will work with you to make your trip a great one. Dane even joined us for dinner…after his working hours….and we had a great time. The folks we stayed with at the YC are very close with the concierge staff and insist they are the absolute best on WDW property. These people have been at all of the other resorts and just love the YC group (as a whole…..of course some are better than others are but as a whole, they are great).

I think that covers it for now…………any other questions?

Sounds like we had a similarly wonderful experience with the staff--I stayed at the YC Concierge (no suite, sadly... but there were only two of us, so the suite would have been excessive). Our maid (who left us adorable little washcloth animals every day and was just great, no complaints) had accidently thrown away the basket that came with a gift I had ordered for my fiance. I asked the Concierge staff if there was a way to retrieve it, and the next day, we had a brand new basket sitting on our dresser. Not only that, but we changed our plans to stay an extra night, which involved the cancellation of our Airport hotel reservation, rescheduling of our towncar pickup, and another day reserved at the YC, and they took care of EVERYTHING. We told them what we wanted, and they found all the phone numbers and reservations that needed to be cancelled on their own. We came back for lunch/snacks in the lounge, and they came up to us and let us know everything was taken care of and we had a 6:00am pick up (as we requested) for our towncar.
I understand what you mean about the atmosphere...there is an attitude of dignity, a bit of repression, and a little stuffiness. I personally loved it, as a 20 year old spending a gazillion dollars on a deluxe ;0) but I saw the BC as well and it was such a relaxing atmosphere I'd love to stay there too. In fact, the only Epcot resort I'm not crazy about is BW. I've never stayed there, it's just too loud and busy for my taste.

That's very interesting Orky15......my stay at the Boardwalk Villas (one bedroom suite) is still my favorite of any place I have stayed at WDW. I enjoyed it so much...with just my family.....I still favor my time there over what we just had at the Yacht Club.

To each his/her own! Bye!

:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Just returned from 3 nights at BC, Tuesday thru Friday. Only our second time on the property, most prior visits we stayed at Casa de Mom & Dad! Our other experience was at what was Dixie Landings (now Riverside) and we loved it there. I was attending a conference and also celebrating 15th anniversary with DH and without kids!

We loved everything at BC!!!! The atmosphere was wonderful although it was funny seeing photos of New England foliage in the "windows" near the gift shop...since we had just left foliage at home to come to Florida!

I had faxed a request for a full balcony a few days prior to our arrival and our request was fulfilled....along with an upgrade to a waterview room!!! We overlooked the volleyball court and could see the lake and the boardwalk. Our room was in perfect repair, I saw no signs of aging. I can say the same for the common areas such as hallways, lobby, etc. We enjoyed SAB, the quiet pool and Beaches & Cream.

We were suprised on our first evening as well. When we returned from a group dinner and Illuminations to find balloons, a cake and an anniversary card from the resort. It was really good!!

It seemed that the resort and parks got more crowded as the weekend neared. We used FastPass on some attractions but didn't need it on all. The Y&B convention center seemed fairly empty. Our group was small by design, there seemed to be a few larger conventions. Epcot was buzzing with the Wine & Food Festival.

If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask. Hey Joe, did you apply to RISD?????

Yo,

GAAAAACK!

Tomorrow's the deadline! My personal statement essays for Notre Dame and RISD aren't DONE YET!!!!! :( All that plus I haven't finished my physics lab report. It's due Thursday, but I need to get a jump on it now. Sheesh.

Yea, I'm applying to RISD, along with ND and PSU. I'm really psyched about Penn State lately...other than obvious reasons, I'm thinking about their change-of-major option for sophomore year. Also known as sink or swim, in some circles. These days a ton of things are on my mind, including a potential change of career track to automotive design, rather than strict architecture. We'll see. Thanks for your interest and posts, and whaddayaknow, I actually found time for this place. Adios amigos,

JC

FYI,

BC concierge opened for business on Friday November 2, 2001!!!

We check in on the 6th. That's timing.

Has anyone reported from on the scene at the "new improved" BC Concierge?

Thank you Joe Cool for such a wonderful job! I have enjoyed reading all of this great information.

We will be at Beach CLub the is weekend (11/10-11/11). We have a king sico room reserved at 187.50/night (incl tax). well I just called to try to get a better rate and they offered me standard instead of sico if I wanted to switch. I called Beach Club front desk just to ask whether I would have a better chance of getting a full balcony if I switched to standard. The really nice CM looked in the computer to tell me which sico rooms would be available on Saturday. He said rooms 3573 & 3593 but neither have full balconies, 2590 & 2592, full balconies but near construction???; or 4590 which has a dormer balcony but maybe too near to the construction???

Would you take one of these (he said he could put me in a particular room in the computer today) or switch to standard and hope for the best at check-in?

Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Oh, and by the way, I've been following this thread for awhile and I vote for Penn State...Go Nittany Lions!!! My family is from Altoona, is that near you?

Thanks,
Wendy

Just back from the BC 11/1/01 - 11/4/01. Great view from room #2643. Full balcony overlooking the water and BW.

When we got there on Thursday night, the hotel was very, very quiet. There was PLENTY of self parking spaces in the lot. The entrance gate had our parking pass with my name and dates ready for us when we told them we were checking in. Maybe this helps with people "illegally" parking at the resort.

Hardly anybody in the lobby that night or the next morning or day. Things started picking up Fri night, Sat morning when a convention started checking in.

We were there celebrating our anniversary. We didn't get any cake or anything (perfectly fine - wasn't expecting) but someone slipped a BC concierge key card (addressed to our room) under our door late Thursday night!

It was a pleasant surprise. Maybe it was because of our anniversary or maybe because 11/2 was the reopening day.

The concierge was nice but I certainly wouldn't pay any extra for it. We were there to eat out at the Food & Wine Festival and at sit down dinners at night. So, we didn't really make use of the complimentary food - except some coffee in the morning.

Stopped by once in the afternoon and once in the late evening for some water. Noticed that they had snacks like pretzels, popcorn, bacon wrapped breadsticks, and cookies in the afternoon - lots of desserts and after dinner drinks in the late evening. Unfortunately, I was usually too full from eating out to sample any of the offerrings, although, the desserts looked good. Never got to stop by when they had the early evening appetizers.

Never got to use the pool as we were kid-less this trip. Really liked the BC's decor and location. It was my second stay there and dh's first. But I doubt we will be staying there again for a long, long while. The home away from home accomodations do seem more spacious and comfortable. Dh thinks that a hotel room is a hotel room, etc.

As I remembered, I really liked the atmosphere of the BC better than the YC. It was more relaxing, airy and refreshing. All in all, it was a great trip at a great resort.

Next trip will be after Thanksgiving with the kids and the in-laws at a 2-bedroom at OKW!

Hey you guys!

It's deadline week. Everything (college essays, 3 drawings for RISD application, etc) has to be done by next Tuesday, which means even more otherworldly brain-stretching on my part. And this past week I briefly flirted with the notion of applying to a FOURTH school (something more...local), but I that lasted longer than Frank Purdue (you know...the naked chicken guy)'s political career. LoL...

You know, I kinda figgered that WDW would be kinda empty these days. I say, pfuh. If I didn't have ten thousand other commitments (and a ton of expenses!), I'd be going for the convention. I will NOT fly, though...eh...not because I'm scared or anything, just because it's a pain in the butt. I will not give up my right to privacy for anything...period. If they're going to search my stuff, they might as well stick a ****** up my *** and jiggle it around...they'd make more progress, anyway.

OK...4590 has a dormer balcony and a king sico bed. Nice if you're going to be spending more time out of the room than in the room, but there's gonna be noise from you know what.
I'd take 3573, it's a water view room with a standing room balcony, but at least you'd have a view. 2590 and 92 are even closer to the construction and...there is no 3593.

Sorry, guys, I can't get any new material up here for a WHILE because of college apps. I have some 2002 stuff to add, plus a slightly shifted format for some of the first pages. That was all supposed to happen a week ago (i prepped it in mid-October, but then i went to the shore and everything accelerated). I say, there's nothing more refreshing than doing something I've never done...that is, getting something in here on time. Duhh! OK, well, er, there you go. Thanks though, for your patience and interest.

Let's keep this place moving (as always, yada yada).

Happy Disney-ing
(and i STILL can't believe they closed Port Orleans!!!!! :( )

JC

JC, Sounds like this week is pretty hectic for you wishing you the best! Anyone just back, hows the construction going? We are headed down in a few weeks and just courious as to what to expect. Thanks for any insite:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We were there 10/24-10/27 and were lucky enough to get a room overlooking the volleyball court and BW. The main construction is done, the buildings are up. They now seem to be doing what I'd call finish work.....installing windows and doors....balconies and decorative work. I never noticed any excessive noise, even when we were in the front of the hotel waiting for a bus.

The buildings are up!? The buildings are up!?!?!

YEEE-HA!!!!!

OK...how about some pictures of the finished construction!?

JC

paras4ri and JC thank you for the update, we leave the 26th and I feel better knowing whats up :)

We leave on the 26th as well!

Which side are you staying on? We originally were booked at BC, but I changed to YC because of the construction and the numerous postponed openings at BC Concierge.

We'll be there through the 1st - how about you?
