You may have read in a previous post that our DSs (15 and 17) were marching down Main Street with their high school band. They did it this past Friday and what a thrill!

There is nothing like sitting on the sidewalk of Main Street, hearing the familiar drum cadence, watching your children round the corner by the train station to proceed up Main Street with the CMs smiling and clapping to Phantom of the Opera as the band played. We staked out our spot for the 8:45 parade by 7pm. We met up with a bunch of other band parents. It was so very cool to hear all the wonderful remarks from other people around us.

I wish I could express the feeling better-I cried and am getting teary eyed as I type. If you have been there you know exactly what I mean!

sounds like an awsome time.
thats really cool how they got to march down main street

:cool1:

I can definitely relate. My DS 17 is in the band (plays the trumpet) and my DD 14 is in the color guard. I know how thrilled and teary eyed I get when I watch them in our small town parade. I would be a basket case if I ever saw them coming down Main Street. I can imagine the pride you must have been feeling. I happy for you and your sons that you had such a wonderful experience.

I got to do this my senior year. It is a moment I will never forget cake castle and all.

I agree Karen!! Our band marched Tuesday night. After a year and half of planning this trip with two other parents....it was the neatest reward I could have asked for! :)

What an awesome experience! You must be very proud. You deserve alot of credit for your awesome parenting too: paying for lessons and instrument rental, making sure people practiced, getting them to concerts, etc..., encouraging a love of music. Way to go!

::yes:: ::yes:: Heck I get teary eyed when I see them marching in a parade, playing in a ball game, getting ready for a dance or formal, dance recital, standing in line at the registry when they get their permit...I can't even imagine what this would do to me, lol. :rotfl:

I'm right there with you - my children (the 2 oldest) marched with their high school in MK in 2003 - it was my first trip to WDW! Now we're starting to plan the 2006 trip, for the middle and youngest child, and can hardly wait. Nothing matches the thrill of watching your children as they round the corner with the castle behind them - it still gives me a tear in my eye . . .

My kids are in orchestra, so I won't ever get that thrill. :sad2: My niece marched there and her family didn't go watch her, I was surprised. They didn't even tell us she was going until 2 days before!
We did stop and watch a choir from KS on our last trip. We didn't know anyone, but we wanted to support the kids!!

Our son was able to march with his HS band down Main Street (Magical Music Days) two years ago and the entire experience was a ball! I taped their performance, and unfortunately, when you watch the tape you can hear me calling to my son every few seconds. I have to remember to be quiet while that darn camera is on!!

I cried just reading your post! On December 29 my son will be marching with his high school band down main street at WDW! I will be crying my eyes out. I can imagine the pride you felt.

Hi Karen,
What a great memory! I TOTALLY know what you mean! Our band played at Disney in Feburary, although they weren't marching, it was still an incredible experience for them and me! In the afternoon, the Jazz Band played at Cosmic Rays and "rose" up from the floor. They even let a few of the chaperones (you bet I fought for that experience!) go "backstage" and see the tunnels underneath and helped the kids get settled on the stage before we raced up through a bunch of rooms and part of the kitchen (?) to watch the kids rise up playing. What got me was the "Disney" voice announcing the band, hometown and director. So cool!!! :earboy2:

My son is going to march during Christmas Week...we're so excited!

DH and I did this "several" years ago and now in April we get to watch our niece march down mainstreet.... 21 years later! I just wish our DS's school band would do something like this. Might have to get working on the band director for that ;)

Yes, to all of you parents that have children that will be marching-take the tissues!!

My DSs just got home a few hours ago and they are still telling me all the "stories" that happened. Interesting behind the scenes stories too! For a busy time of the year, they really went on a lot of rides and attractions. It sounds as though people were generous and giving them Fast Passes all over the place.

What a great experience! :lovestruc

I can't wait!! My son is marching in March at the MK. The marching band he is in just placed second in their division at the state championships last week so I know just how you feel! We had a great band year! They marched at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Tropicanna Field in St. Pete and they are marching at the MK in March!

My DS16 also sang in the CP in the mass choir last night and again on 12/25 and 12/26. We are soooo proud of him!

I never would have dreamed that some day I would be able to see my children participate in Disney events. It really is magical.......... :wizard: :wizard:

Mee too!! My daughter marched around World Showcase a few years ago. Man, was it ever thrilling to hear them announce "The Pride of Greene County, The Marching EAGLE Band" all along the way. There were a lot of foreign visitors and they were busy snapping pictures of the band. I told my daughter her picture was going to be seen all over the world!. Our band director who had taught for over twenty years at that time said it was the most memorable moment of his career. Oh, and I don't know how it is with all of your schools but here the band "geeks" are sort of outcasts but let me tell you, you will not find more disciplined, hard working and well mannered kids than band members. When that director yells attention you will not see an eye blink. Oh the memories!! :sad2: How many non-band members can say they actually participated in something at WDW. Few words can describe it. (Her jazz band also played on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial by the reflecting pool. You know, where Forest Gump was!!)

Whcih ones were they? We watched the bands from the hub (and then caught the later Spectro parade) I am a band geek from wayyyy back (flute and piccolo) I loooooove marching bands!

MommytoMJM-They were the fourth (last) band from Selinsgrove, PA. White jackets, blue pants. They played Phantom of the Opera and Stars and Strips. They stopped just past the crosswalk. I guess it would be between that first crosswlak and Casey's Hot Dogs.

OH MY GOSH!!! I went nuts when I heard them!! I was the crazy lady in the Scooter screaming her lungs out in the HC section right before the castle! I just LOVE Phantom and they were so sharp in their uniforms!
