this is such a sad sick world

first we got "the virus" to deal with--which is sad in itself since in this day and age it shouldnt have happened in the first place--

now we have groups that are trying to re write history--or pretend like it never happened--

statues are being taken down or destroyed--even disney is changing some of there classic rides that have been around since the beginning

its history--it cant be changed re written forgotten about--it happened-case closed

was some of it right--no-- but way back in time they did what they thought was right for that time--but things happened

my dad used to say when things were going wrong stop the world I want to get off--I wish he would have told me how to get off now that the world is stopped

and all the unrest--why is it ok for some people to break the law--then resist arrest--but no one ever says if they would have done what they were told to do--like when a cop says to stop and freeze--the person would still be alive--sitting in jail but still alive

we just had a issue near a shopping mall--some kids were caught shop liftening so when the police came they caught them and one of the kids spit on the police while he was trying to restrain him--I guess thats ok and the police are just supposed to take it

well my word the protesters that came out of the woodwork were insane!!! they that this was just terrible--oh the kid was only 13 I can only think what he'll be like by the time hes 18

sad sick world
I suppose if you learned history from statutes it explains why you will miss them...
it explains in a few ways

And Bill Gates warned everyone back in 2015 that pandemic could happen and how we should prepare. Thank God he didn't do an "I told you so," and take all his money and hide his family in some panic bunker somewhere until whatever is left of the world. But, the Gates Foundation is actively funding massive research to get the world past this. Not just complain about it all or go into denial about it.

I never saw that video until after this all started but he nailed it!

What’s sad and sick to me is the fact that racism is now being glorified. And that certain politicians have now made it ok for racists to voice their opinion out loud and then be surprised when they realize others outside their specific bubble don’t agree. And that people make mask wearing a political statement rather than an IQ test.

History ABSOLUTELY needs to be rewritten because the full unbiased history is NOT TAUGHT.

When I was in high school in the early 90's, we were taught that the Civil War wasn't about slavery, it was about the North taking advantage of the South's agriculture and blah blah blah. We didn't read a single document of secession. I never read Alexander Stephenson's Cornerstone Address. And this was in Pennsylvania!

What is sad and sick is that so many people just don’t get why those things need to happen. It isn’t rewriting history. It’s refusing to glorify those who perpetrated horrific actions upon fellow human beings. It’s acknowledging that the number of people arrested who are of color is wildly disproportionate, so pulling out some random example of someone who may or may not “deserve” to be arrested and then may or may not have acted poorly (because I don’t personally know anything about the story so I can’t make any kind of comment) does not mean that all of the other atrocities did not happen.

Why would we want monuments to people who wanted to destroy the Union and wanted to hold on to slavery. They were traitors. I don’t see Germany putting up monuments to Nazi generals
I second what @bavaria already said. What we saw here in the Netherlands in the last ten years is Second World War movies that show a grey area. Before, the tone was "Dutch good, Germans bad!", we now had several movies that showed bad Dutch people in every layer of society, from politicians to people in the resistance, and good Germans. Paul Verhoeven's Blackbook is probably the most well known in the US as Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones) is in it. And also in Germany, and Austria there have been movies showing not everything is as black and white. We are coming to terms with where we went wrong. It doesn't erase history, but it helps us to understand what happened and how to prevent it in the future.

We change as humans, constantly. Change is what makes us human.
Other example: We have different opinions now about the role of man and woman. It has led to that we don't see those sexist ads like in the fifties anymore. But I'm sure there are dozens of people (read: men) who think that we should go back to that time. But we're not going to. Women have been fighting and are still fighting hard to keep our rights. Getting the right to vote didn't come without a fight.

Neither will this. We have to review history, but that's different from revising it.

This reminds me of a song I use to listen to in high school.

....

No your not the first to fall apart
But always the first one to complain
You better get careful or you'll compromise
Everything you are

The world is a drought when out of love
Please come back to us you're all of the above
"I'm making a choice to be out of touch
Leave me be" he said
He said he said
"leave me here in my
Stark raving sick sad little world!"

I've never had unpaid confidants
Its more than I would care to explain
But I have an open door policy when it comes to blame

The world is a joke when out of love
Please come back to us your all of the above
"I'm making a choice to be out of touch
Leave me be" he said
He said he said
"leave me here in my
Stark raving sick sad little world!"

On the topic of the kid spitting on the police officer:

Yeah, that sucks

That part stood out to me in the OP. "I guess thats ok and the police are just supposed to take it" :sad2:

Obviously no one thinks its "okay" to spit on a police officer. But, yes, the officer should remain professional and in control of his/her emotions regardless of how awful the person is acting. What does "just supposed to take it" even mean? Are they implying that the better alternative to just "taking it" is beating or possibly killing the kid?

Exactly. As an officer, when this happens, you don't lose your cool, you don't become aggressive, you don't rise to the bait. You simple continue with the arrest and the "spitter" gets an extra charge.

I know! What will we do without all those statues to learn history?
I wonder how many stone carving classes most history majors take? It must be sooooo challenging to carry their statues to class and back when they need to study. Maybe the profs have mini-models they can use or something.
